I've been lurking on this site for quite a while, and liking all those things! Well, except for maybe the vamps, but that's more in popular culture than on BF. I'm excited to be controling voting on the love lives of pixels, and this is the first interactive voting type let's play thing I've thrown myself at so I'm hoping for fun!

To stay topical, I'm wondering if this Not!Germany is supposed to be a take of the East/West divide, with the walls and curfew and side-eyed visitor policies. The monarchial rule throws the analogy off though, but they've got to get the prince in there somewhere, somehow. I suppose it's be far less romantic to be kidnapped by the head of the secret police to make riceballs.

I read this extreamly cute fanfic of FeMCxMaleC once. It was a one-shot, but soooo adorable~

Josh looks down at the floor.

Joshua: "Yeah..."

God, this is depressing.

Amaya tries to hide her feelings by smiling at him.

Amaya: "Isn't this the part where you say good riddance?"

Josh isn't really in the mood to be teased, though.

Joshua: "How could I possibly say that to you!?"

He brings a hand to her face.



His face draws closer to hers, and her heart beats quicker as she remembers the kiss.

Amaya: (Prince Joshua...)

Amaya: "I'm sorry, I was only joking."

He pulls his hand away (goddamnit) and holds out a book to Amaya with his other hand. She takes it.

Amaya: "What's this?"

Joshua: "It's a collection of photos from the mountain we went to this morning."

Amaya: "Are you lending this to me?"



Joshua: "That is the first photo book I was given when I was small."

Amaya: (His first photo book...?)



Joshua: "That was all..."

He leaves abruptly. Feeling a little depressed Amaya sits down on her bed and leafs through the book.

Amaya: (This is what we saw this morning...)

The photo showed the same scenery I had seen with Prince Joshua that morning.

Of course it was much more stunning seeing it in real life with him.

But seeing the photo kept the memory vivid in my mind.

Amaya: (I guess it would be best to forget about that kiss now... But then why did he give me this...?)

...Ugh. Amaya catches a profound case of protagonist stupidity in this chapter.

HE GAVE IT TO YOU BECAUSE HE DOESN'T WANT YOU TO FORGET. JOSH IS TRYING TO EXPRESS HIS FEELINGS TO YOU. HE JUST CAN'T COMMUNICATE VERY WELL.



Anyway, I'm not sure if this scene is a flashback to the previous scene with the unknown man talking on the phone or if it's a different scene happening the next day, but I'm leaning toward the former.

Josh goes out into the courtyard and runs into Jan.





Jan: "Well, the truth is I spotted someone acting strangely, and I was having a talk with them."

Joshua: "What, really? Who..."

Jan looks troubled.

Jan: "Please allow me to watch the situation a little longer before I say anything. I do not wish to say anything without having any proof."

Josh stares at him for a moment.

Joshua: "You can't even tell me who it is?"



Jan: "No, but I don't think Miss Amaya would like it...if we started doubting people needlessly. She was subject to such doubting herself."

Joshua fell silent as Jan continued to smile at him.

.... Oh. My. God....
Jan really is the spy....

I give up trying to figure anything out.

I just. Give up.

Jan could give Amaya some lessons on how to deal with Joshua.

And I'm pretty sure that if he indeed turns out to be the spy, he was very likely coerced into it. To protect Joshua or something.
He cannot be evil, man.

I'd be surprised if he was. These games rarely get that dark, not even close.

... Time to go write a VN that is that dark, now.

The day after receiving the book from Josh, Amaya shows up to breakfast late because she had stayed up the night before looking through the photos. Josh is already gone.



Jan responds kindly as always as he serves Amaya her breakfast.

Jan: "He has gone out for some official business. Did you have a message for him at all?"

Amaya: "Oh, no..."

Amaya: (Jan was probably the person who told the King everything, so I guess Jan doesn't really want Prince Joshua and I to be close either...)





Jan: "You may have gotten the wrong idea yesterday, but the only reason I told the King about you...is because he asked me about what was written in the papers."

Jan...can you read minds? O.o

Amaya: "Okay..."

Jan: "It is prohibited for me as a butler to tell a lie to any member of the royal household, but I only ever say as much as I have been asked."

He stares down at her.

NOT CREEPY AT ALL.

Jan: "I think His Majesty figured the rest out for himself."

Amaya: "Is that so..."



Jan: "Is something the matter?"

Amaya: "I'm just a little relieved."



Amaya: "If you had decided you didn't like having me around...and that you didn't like Prince Joshua being friends with me, I would have been beside myself."

"Friends", huh?



Jan: "I am saddened greatly to think you will be gone from here next week."

His words came from the heart, and I found myself smiling to hear them.

Amaya: "Thank you, Jan."



That night, Josh is working in his office when Jan brings him some tea.

Jan: "Pardon my intrusion."

Joshua: "Mm."



Jan watches him finish signing before speaking.

Jan: "Your Highness..."

Joshua: "What is it?"

Josh keeps working as he talks.

Jan: "Can I speak with you for a moment?"

Joshua: "About what?"

A pause.

Jan: "It's about Miss Amaya..."



Joshua: "Is that really any of your business?"

No, but provoking a reaction out of you is fun.

Jan looks down.





Jan: "It has nothing to do with me."

Josh stares back at Jan for a few moments and then returns to his paperwork.

Joshua: "Then, leave."

Jan: "Yes Your Highness. Please excuse me."



The room fell silent once more, the only sound being that of pen on paper.

After a while, that too ceased as Joshua let out a sigh.

I'm conflicted. The build up here is trying to hard to go "IT'S JAN! JAN IS AT FAULT!" Leading me to doubt he's the spy. But then again, this might be the case, after all.

Several days later...

Amaya: (I have to leave here soon...)



She hasn't seen Josh since he gave her the photo book, not even at mealtimes. She feels like he's avoiding her on purpose, and Jan will only tell her that Josh is busy with work.

Amaya: (Well, princes have to work for the good of the country...)

She leafs through the book again and remembers the times she's spent with Josh.

The first time he asked me to dance.

The time we ate food from that food stall.

When he came and picked me up from my apartment.

The time he took me to see the sunrise.

And...the feel of his lips on mine.

Her chest grows warm and tight at the same time.

She looks down at the book and feels something warm on her cheeks.

Amaya: (What?)

She touches her hand to her face and feels tears.

Amaya: (Why...?)

But she already knows the answer.



It was as if something inside of me had been released, and all my feelings for him came to the surface.

I hadn't thought much of him at first.

But even so, I had found myself being drawn to him, and he had stolen my heart.

Amaya: (I know it's not possible to love a prince, that we can never be together... This only happened because Prince Joshua thought I was Mike's granddaughter at first...)

Everything came from that one mistake.

He might have only kissed me as a spur of the moment.

Amaya: (I can't stay here... I need to return this book to him and go...)



She finds her way to Josh's room and gives him the book.



Amaya: (He probably doesn't think of me that way anyway...)

Her heart hurts at the thought, and she bows her head.

Amaya: "I... I intend to leave tomorrow. Thank you for everything."

Josh freezes dead on the spot.



Amaya: "It's too painful to stay here with you any longer..."

Amaya... :(

Josh presses his lips together and holds the book back out to her.

Joshua: "You can have this."

Amaya: "What? But isn't this book important to you?"

Joshua: "I don't need it anymore. I don't want to remember..."

Josh... :(

Amaya: (He doesn't want to remember...the time he spent with me there?)

He doesn't want to remember what he almost had and then lost for the same reason Amaya wants to leave now...it's too painful. But they're both too awkward to properly express their own feelings and too dense to read the true meaning in what the other one is saying.

Amaya feels a sharp pain in her chest as tears well up in her eyes.

Amaya: "Don't say that, it's too sad..."

Joshua: "Sad?"

Amaya: "Are you saying you don't need those memories either?"



Joshua: "Yes... I have no need for memories I have no reason to remember."

Amaya: (No reason...?)

Josh's voice sounds far away to her.

Amaya: (Our ideals are obviously too different...)

Amaya: "I see... But, I can't accept this book. Sorry!"

She turns to leave when he grabs her arm.

Amaya: (What...?)

Joshua: "I don't understand..."



Amaya: (What doesn't he understand?)

Amaya: "Your Highness..."

He loosens his grip as she whispers and takes her face in his hands.

Josh presses his forehead against Amaya's.



Joshua: "I'd always thought I had to obey the rules, but I don't think I want to anymore... I don't think I can anymore..."

Prince Joshua's voice was barely audible.

He took me in with his expressive eyes.

Joshua: "The rules don't tell you how to love someone, and no one ever taught me that either."

His pained words wrapped around my heart.

Joshua: "So I don't know what is right, or what I should do..."

His true feelings flowed into me, and the pain in my chest deepened.

Even after the misunderstandings and the parties, and the kidnapping (ok maybe not the kidnapping)

I looked into his eyes.

Amaya: "Just as Your Highness says, I don't know what is right, but I cannot believe that the way you touch me, and the feelings we have...are wrong."

Prince Joshua's eyes opened wide.

Joshua: "Amaya..."

He whispered to me as he brought his lips close to mine.

Amaya: (Oh...)

Joshua: "Me too..."

My heart quivered at his softly spoken words.

I hardened my conviction and spoke.

Amaya: "But..."

no Amaya what are you doing shut up and kiss him

Prince Joshua halted.

Amaya: "I know I cannot stay here any longer, nor is it okay to be this close to you."


STOP IT! STOP BEING SENSIBLE!





Amaya: "So I must leave."

Josh looks shocked at her words.

Joshua: "I...see..."



Amaya: (I probably shouldn't have said it like that...)

YOU THINK!?!



Amaya: "Excuse me, Your Highness..."



Amaya: "Huh...?"

Joshua: "I'm sorry for forcing you to come here..."

Amaya: (Oh...)

She feels an acute pain in her chest, but keeps her mouth closed.

BECAUSE SHE IS AN IDIOT

Amaya: (This hurts, but this is the way it has to be.)





Amaya: "Your Highness..."

Joshua: "I have learned a lot from this experience. From now on I should only focus on becoming a good king, and not let anything get in the way of that."



Joshua: "I'm sorry I got you mixed up in all this."

Faced with his smile, I found there was nothing else I could say.

Amaya: (But... This is what I have chosen.)

Amaya: (Oh...)

She takes the tea, trying not to look like she's going to cry.

Amaya: (This tastes good, but a little different than normal...)

Amaya: "Is this a different tea than normal?"



Jan: "I prepared this one special as this is your last morning here."

Amaya feels a warm sensation in her heart.

Amaya: "Thank you."

She finishes her tea and sets the cup on the table.



Amaya: "Yes..."

She and Jan leave together.

Several minutes after they've gotten into the car and the manor has disappeared from view, Amaya notices something strange. She looks over at Jan.





Jan: "Why is that?"

Amaya: "I get the impression we're going the wrong way..."


Please stop being creepy, Jan...

Jan: "I am impressed that you noticed."

Jan: "I have had a request by someone to take you to him."

Oh, God, let her outta this car NOW!

Amaya: "Who...?"

She suddenly feels drowsy.

Her eyelids get heavy and her movements become more lethargic.

Amaya: (Don't tell me...that tea...)

She quickly reaches into her purse and pulls out her cell phone.


Jan, why are you doing this? I thought you were nice.

Amaya: (Prince Joshua...)

Jan's smile made me feel afraid.

He suddenly seemed like a completely different person.

But it was already too late...

And to twist the knife a bit, an email from Josh:

My bad

I was acting like a child yesterday.

I went to your room to apologize later on, but you had already left the castle.

So I just wanted to text you to tell you one thing.
I don't know if we'll ever see each other again, but I'm happy that I got to know you.
I thank you for everything.
