Oh, don't worry, I know Voltage will throw us a corkscrew to get us to love him, but his current behaviour still grates on my nerves and I won't be able to let it go even WHEN his dere shows up. Call me too sensitive, if you wish, but I'm BAD at letting things go.

Whereas I cheerfully admit to being fond of this type because the harder he tsuns now, the more rewarding it feels to me when he breaks down and gives in to the dere later. (See also: Keith.)

Doesn't mean that for the time being I don't want to smack him for leaping to flagrantly wrong conclusions and then blaming other people for it, though.

Joshua: "You have just entered the Kingdom illegally."

Joshua: "You will need to apply for special dispensation before you can leave the Kingdom again."

Amaya: "Would I be able to do that tomorrow?"

Joshua: "It's not that easy. It will take at least a week to ten days to get this sorted out."

Me and Amaya: WHUT

He sighs and stares out the window.

Amaya: (First I am being forced to come...and now I can't leave!? I should have said something earlier...)

What wonderful destiny it is to have you arrive at this kingdom like this.
Nevertheless, I greatly welcome the opportunity to be with such a cute young lady.

I'm sure you are aware that Prince Joshua has a reputation for being very stubborn, but if you just follow my lead, you will have nothing to worry about.

Jan: clearly long since accustomed to putting a positive spin on Joshua's behavior.

Sooo...is this game completely different than the gree version, or is it just the prologue that got all fubared because they needed some excuse to have us play dress-up games?

I liked the prologue for the Gree version way better than whatever this has been. I have not tried out Joshua's route in Gree yet, but I'll do his Christmas event in a few days and see if he's still a giant pile of dicks there.

A Christmas event? Sounds like I should try out the Gree version right now.

The Gree prologue seems at least a little more realistic for an otome game than "Oh, you got your clothes dirty. Let me take you to a royal ball and introduce you to all my royal friends."
That's a pretty thin excuse for inviting a stranger.

Yeah, the Christmas event for Gree is pretty short, the routes take 4 days to complete assuming you aren't spending real money and are doing enough Christmas Parties to get your Love Factors and money high enough to clear the missions when you first encounter them. And you don't have to have played someone's regular route to get the Christmas event route. I've already finished Wilfred and Keith, working on Roberto now, but I'll make Joshua my next stop.

I looked up a summary of Joshua's route in GREE, and they're completely different. His personality is the same, but the story is different. Incentive to play both, I guess?

So, uh, I was playin through the non-gree prologue for comparison and when I clicked on Roberto's portrait to read more about him, I found a bug. Looks like the next voltage game to be translated is about jewel thieves and such. Because the profile was not of Roberto. It was of some other hottie from a different game. I did some digging and yes , he appears in one of the Japanese only games on the apple store. I was amused. I can screenshot if anyone wants to see.

Amaya is staying at Dres Van Manor until she can leave the country.

Jan tells her if there's anything she needs to let him know.

Amaya flashes back to the car ride the night before.



Jan: "Of course there are but..."

Amaya: "Then I don't see why I cannot stay in one..."

Joshua is indignant.

Joshua: "Why do you insist on doing something that will obviously cost money?"

Amaya: (I can't exactly say that it's because I want to get away from him...)

Sure you can. "Joshua, you're a big jerky jerk-face, and I don't want to be in the same building as you."



Jan: "I shall arrange a room for you at the Manor... How about you come and stay there for the time being?"

She gives the side-eye to the pissed-off Prince while Jan smiles again.

Jan: "I will wait on you myself to make sure you are well cared for."

And that's how Amaya got railroaded to staying at the Manor.

Back in the present, someone is knocking on Amaya's door.



Roberto: "Good morning. This has turned out to be a fine disaster for you, hasn't it?"

That's one way of putting it.

The game labels the speaker for these next lines as Roberto, but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be Jan.

Jan: "There are some differences between Dres Van and the other kingdoms... That is why we have these laws. Then there's the problem with Nerwan Kingdom... We have built a wall around us that separates us a bit from the rest of the 6 Kingdoms."

What's this about Nerwan?

Jan: "Yes. The Kingdoms of Dres Van and Nerwan were originally the same nation... But there was a civil war, and the country was divided in two, the eastern half becoming Nerwan Kingdom."

Roberto: "Yes, and that's where Leo lives."

Who?



Jan: "You must mean Prince Leonardo. While we do have a peace treaty with Nerwan... There are still tensions between our two Kingdoms. And there have also been rumors that Nerwan may strike against Dres Van."

Lovely. As if Amaya wasn't stressed out enough, there's the possibility that war may break out while she's trapped in Dres Van.

Roberto reassures her that the situation isn't that bad yet and the two Kingdoms are trying to maintain a friendly relationship. Anyway, Nerwan won't attack while he's there (probably because they wouldn't want to draw Altaria in to ally with Dres Van) but, whoops! He has to leave that day to get back to his own duties.

Amaya: "Then after you leave, the war..."

Roberto: "That won't happen! If things were really that bad...then Prince Joshua wouldn't have come to the party in the first place."

He pats her on the head and offers to send word to Leo that there's a guest in the manor. Joshua thinks that's a wonderful idea.

I get the feeling that neither of these two take Amaya very seriously. But it does help calm down her nerves.

Amaya: "All right then... Would I be permitted to contact my parents though...? I'm living alone at the moment, and if they can't get through to me then..."

Roberto: "Oh, to your Mama and Papa?"

Yeah, he definitely doesn't take her seriously.



Just then, a booming voice enters the room.

??: "Are you not of age yet?"



Joshua!



Jan: "Y-your Highness."

Roberto: "Good morning Prince Joshua. You are looking wonderfully fierce this morning."

*snerk*



Amaya: "Y-yes?"

Amaya: (Since when were we on first name terms...)



Amaya: "No, not at all. Why?"

Joshua: "Then isn't it about time you stopped crying for your mommy and daddy? You shouldn't need to call them about everything! There's honestly no hope for a common woman who acts like a child."

Amaya: (Argh!)

I love Amaya's reactions to Joshua. She's an otome protagonist and even she can't believe this shit.

Amaya: "What is so childish about calling worried parents!?"

Joshua: "If you continue to rely on them and can't stand on your own two feet, then you're no more than a child!"

Jan's like "What thing?" and then he suddenly remembers and slams his fist against his hand and runs out of the room saying he'll bring it right away.



Amaya feels her chest tighten at those words.

Amaya: (Useless? Jan works his hardest and he calls him useless!?)

Roberto: "He's brilliant, and seems to care for you most of all."

Roberto, you're adorable. Can I adopt you?

Joshua frowns.

Joshua: "What would you know?"

But Roberto just laughs.

Roberto: "I think you would know Jan's true nature better than myself, Prince Joshua."



The room falls into an uncomfortable silence until the sound of hurrying footsteps breaks it. It's Jan with an armful of papers.



Amaya: "I have to fill out all of these!?"

Joshua: "Yes. You want to leave as soon as possible, right? Then get these filled out."



Roberto: "Dear me... Would you rather become my bride instead?"

WHAT

Roberto: "That way you could leave easily, as a member of the royal family."

Amaya: (Oh, I see...Wait, what? I can't agree to that!)

Sorry, Robbie, it's not your route. (And what the hell, why can't you be this straightforward when it is your route?!)



Roberto: "I'm kidding! Really Josh... You shouldn't take everything so seriously. Oh. But I don't really have a problem with marrying a commoner."



Jan: "That is enough. If you would consent to stopping this conversation here, Prince Roberto. I am sure you must be leaving soon, and we do not wish to get in the way of your public duties."

Roberto looks at the clock and realizes he does have to go. But first, he takes out his cell phone to exchange numbers with Amaya, telling her to contact him if she has any problems. Joshua watches the exchange with an odd look on his face.



Amaya: (What is it with him and commoners!?)

Roberto says goodbye and pats Amaya on the head again before getting up and leaving. Amaya gets uneasy as she watches him go.

Jan smiles.

Jan: "Now Miss Amaya. Is it all right to leave you with filling out these papers?"

Amaya: "O-okay."

Joshua: "I want you gone as well, so get to it."

Amaya: "Wha!?"



Jan: "Your Highness shouldn't speak to her like that."

Joshua just turns his back to both of them.

Joshua: "I leave everything else to you Jan. Got it?"

Jan smiles bitterly and bows.

Jan: "Your will is my command, Master."



Jan: "My apologies, Miss Amaya. His Highness doesn't really mean anything by it, he's just..."

Amaya: "It's fine Jan. I know none of this is your fault."

Amaya: (My problem is with Prince Joshua. And I may as well get this paperwork over and done with... so I can leave here and never have to speak with him again.)



Why do I have the feeling that this will take a while?

I did a double-spit-take at this because the first, and very unfortunate thing that came to mind was Jan wading in between Joshua's teeth.
