Why couldn't all the route be like that ? WHY ?

Better yet: Why couldn't the route handle what it presented to us better? It could have made for a seriously fucking awesome route.

After they eat, Josh brings Amaya to his room.



She can't look at him, so as she's looking away, she notices something on the balcony.

KITTY!




And Josh's crippling ailurophobia rears its head. (No, spell-check, I did not mean acrophobia.)

Amaya: (He really doesn't like cats... Well, I can't just let it stay there...)

She heads out onto the balcony. When the cat sees her, it jumps in surprise. Wondering how it managed to get up there, Amaya crouches down.

Amaya: "Don't be frightened. I won't hurt you..."

She calls the cat softly as she holds out her hand. It warily approaches her and eventually comes right up to her fingers. It gives a small purr and then licks her hand.

Amaya: (Does it trust me now?)

She picks the cat up gently and it licks her fingers some more.

Amaya: (It's so cute...)

She hears a click behind her.

Amaya: (What was that?)

She turns around to see Josh's pale face glaring at her through the glass door.


He's locked the door.

Amaya: "What are you doing!? Open the door!"

She runs up to the door and Josh mouths some words at her.

Amaya: (Let...go...of...the...cat?)

She looks down and the cat lets out an adorable meow.

Amaya: (I don't think it's so scary he needs to lock the door...)



He hesitantly undoes the lock.

Amaya: (Thank goodness...)

Amaya goes back into the bedroom, taking the cat with her.



Amaya: "Prince Joshua... Are you really that scared of cats?"

Amaya, honey? You're engaged now. I think you can drop the "Prince" when you're alone.

Josh doesn't respond; he just keeps staring at the cat.

Amaya: "There's nothing to be scared about, see?"

He slowly makes his way over to her.

Amaya: (This is almost exactly the same as when I was coaxing the cat out on the balcony...)

Josh stops a couple feet away from her.

Amaya: "I was wondering this before but... why don't you like cats?"



Amaya: "If you'd rather not say..."

He hesitates for a moment, then whispers.

Joshua: "When I was a child there was a cat that had made its way into the manor, just like this one."

He holds a hand to his face.

Joshua: "It was pestering me, following me everywhere, so I picked it up, and it scratched my face."

Amaya: (I guess that would make you scared of them...)

The entire time Josh is telling his story, the cat Amaya is holding is purring in contentment. Seeing this, Josh frowns.


"Changeable." He was a little kid. I've seen the way little kids pick up animals. He probably hurt or frightened the cat that scratched him.

Amaya: (I understand what he means, but...)

Amaya: "But don't you think it's cute?"

She takes a step towards him, and Josh takes a step back. The cat seems to take an interest and stares up at him.

Amaya: "I don't think this cat would scratch you."

He stares back at the cat and reaches out a hand to it.



The cat meows sweetly at him.



Amaya: "Well...?"

He looks down at his hand and whispers.

Joshua: "It wasn't...as bad as I'd thought it would be."

Amaya: (What did he think was going to happen!? Well, I suppose for someone as scared as he was, this is a big step...)



Joshua: "You must have one or two things you're afraid of?"

Amaya: "Yes, but at least it's not cats. I love them."

She teases him, and he looks slightly annoyed. He reaches for the cat again and pets it properly this time. The cat lifts its head up into his hand. As it does, he opens his eyes wide, and then a smile spreads across his face.



He keeps petting the cat as he speaks quietly.

Joshua: "I guess you can only sense this kind of warmth through feeling it for yourself..."

Amaya stares at the serene expression on his face, and her heart begins to flutter. Josh looks up and their eyes meet.

Joshua: "Oh..."



As they stand there staring at each other in silence, the cat leaps from Amaya's arms and goes back to the balcony. It slips between the railings and jumps from window sill to window sill, making its way to the ground.



Joshua: "I need a shower."

He grabs a change of clothes.

This is fucking BS.

1) If the cat's feral, it will NOT randomly come up to strange people and let itself get handled like that because STRANGER DANGER AND YOU ARE BIGGER THAN IT SO YOU ARE DANGEROUS
2) Even if it WASN'T feral, most cats generally don't instantly fawn on strangers like that either. Even if they're sociable. It has to do with them being careful and being wary. Stop being a fucking sue, Amaya.
3) WOW, YEAH, LET'S BRING SOMEONE WHO HAS A PHOBIA CLOSER TO THE THING THEY'RE FUCKING TERRIFIED OF. THAT'S GOING TO CURE THEM OF THEIR FEAR! <3 LET ME TEASE THEM CRUELLY WHILE I'M AT IT, THAT'S GOING TO MAKE THINGS SO MUCH FUCKING BETTER.

Of all things to really make me hate this epilogue, of course it would involve cats. Of course. Okay.

*pats back sympathetically* We all feel the same. It's almost over. The we get Willfred. Sweet, glorious, Willfred.

But the thing is that, despite my gripes with the problems found in this route, I actually enjoyed it! I mean, I have to separate what content I liked from what I didn't and I really didn't like the handling for important moments, but overall, I liked the route!

THIS FUCKING SHIT? NOPE, FUCKING DONE.

... At first I went "Awwww Joshy getting over his fear of kitties! <3" but then I imagined what happened the last time someone tried to get me to pet a dog to cure my irrational fear of dogs. I kind of locked myself in the bathroom and started sobbing. Welp. At least Amaya happened to get lucky~ Ahahaaaa~

agreeable on fear. I only liked it because of the awkward "I need a shower."

As soon as I saw this, I was reminded of that blog somebody posted about showering before copulation.

Why can't they do anything in this route without it being half rage inducing.

That reminds me of my fear of Bees/Wasps/Hornets/Things that fly and sting. I got stung by a wasp when I was like... 6 or 7, and it was on my forehead. I was also in a pool at the time. After that, for several years, I would start sobbing and screaming and running the fuck away if I even saw one within 5 feet of me. It didn't help that I got stung again in the same pool only a year later in the arm. I've gotten better, but that took 10 years of continuous exposure after the initial incident for me to stop freaking out if one came near me.
Now, I'm able to ignore them, but the imbeded fear is still there and I will still leave the area of the bee, just not loosing it like I used to. I sort of only realized it a few years ago when I accidentally steeped on a bee and it stung me and my reaction was to get my foot in the public pool I was at. No fear or panic, just using basic knowledge I had learned at some point.

Man, I wish I had something to contribute to the rant, but I don't have any phobias so I have no idea how those work at all.

Bees like water and wow, that is just bad luck. Do you live in an area with a lot of bees?

I lived in North-Western Ohio up until this last year since I graduated. We lived only an hour or so away from Lake Eire and the marina we had our boat docked at was always swarming with wasps (no pun intened). Still is. That was where I initially got stung. Then the entire area around my hometown either is or had been Farmland or Forest, so seeing bees or even having a nest stuck to your house isn't somethin uncommon. We had to knock down the first signs of hives almost bi-weekly from the awenings during all of spring and summer.

Amaya: (Prince Joshua really has changed... At first he wouldn't even listen to anything I had to say...)

And now he's well on his way to being completely whipped.

Her thoughts are interrupted by Josh's cell phone ringing. Feeling a little uncertain, she picks it up and walks over to the bathroom door. She calls out to him.



Joshua: "Who was it from?"

Amaya: (Who...?)

Amaya: "You don't mind if I take a look?"

Joshua: "No, it's fine. Oh, but you won't be able to see anything like that... My cell phone has a security lock on it."

He tries to tell her the pin number, but she can't make out what he's saying over the sound of the shower. Josh opens the door slightly and sticks a wet hand out.

Joshua: "Pass it here."

Amaya: "Oh..."



He enters the number and holds the phone back out to her.

Joshua: "Hurry up and take it. I don't want to ruin my phone with all this moisture."

Amaya: "R-right!"

She quickly takes the phone and looks at the screen. Josh's pin number is still displayed.

Amaya: (These numbers are...)

Joshua: "So who was it?"

She checks the caller history and tells him. The bathroom door closes.

Joshua: "That's not a problem. I'll call them back later."

Several minutes later, Josh walks out of the bathroom, drying his hair.



Joshua: "What is it?"

Amaya: "Oh, uh..."

As she's struggling to find something to say (something besides "You look sexy", anyway), Josh silently walks over to her and sits on the sofa next to her, peering at her face.

Joshua: "Why are you being so silent?"

Amaya: "Well..."

His cheeks are flushed from having just gotten out of the shower.



Joshua: "Hmm?"

Urged on by his soft voice, she says the first thing that pops into her head.

Amaya: "I was wondering...if you picked that pin number...because it's my birthday."

Josh's expression freezes.

Amaya: (Was I right?)

They stare at each other for a moment before he turns away and snatches up his phone from the table.



Amaya: "Huh!? Why!?"

Amaya: (I was going to say how happy I was that he'd chosen my birthday...)

Joshua: "There's no point in having a security lock if people know the access number."

Amaya: (But...)

Amaya: "Then why did you show it to me in the first place?"

His hand freezes over the keypad.



Amaya steals a look at the screen to see her birth date displayed there.

Josh stares at it for a moment, then puts her initials at the start of the sequence.



Joshua: "I changed it. It's not your birthday now."

He laughs triumphantly.

I'll bet that he didn't know his pin was her birthday until she said something.

Amaya: (It may not be my birthday anymore... But it hasn't really changed either.)

I thought to myself with a smile.

I had found out just how much he cared, albeit be accident.

Amaya: (I had been thinking he was now honest about his feelings. But he isn't really...)

I couldn't stop myself from smiling, and he raised an eyebrow at me.

Joshua: "Why are you grinning at me like that?"

Amaya: "Oh, it's nothing."

He looked displeased at my answer.



Amaya: "But that's not what I..."

Amaya: (Is he really mad...?)

Amaya: "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way at all!"



Joshua: "I will forgive you, after I think of a suitable punishment."

...You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?

IT'S LIKE I'M SUDDENLY READING A DIFFERENT STORY

I'm so confused, now. I did get annoyed with them again over the 'make rice balls immediately or I'll pout' and then the 'Oh, of course I'll do it even though I may or may not be in my pajamas', and then there was a random kitten and a phobia was magically cured, and then wet muscular arms and cell phone pin blushing, and.......

His eyes widen at the question.



I stared at him intently as his eyes began to wander.



Joshua: "It says that...the two who are joined at Nobel Michel Castle..."

He spoke disjointedly.

Joshua: "...will find...eternal...happiness..."

Amaya: "What?"

I allowed his words to sink in, and they warmed my heart.







Joshua: "You have the most wonderful honesty."

He touched a hand to my cheek as he spoke.

Joshua: "Your face tells me everything that you are thinking."

Amaya: (Oh...)

Joshua: "The warmth I felt from that cat... I feel it here touching your face."

His fingers began to trace down my cheek.

His hand then took hold of mine, and brought it up to his own chest.

I could feel his heart beating furiously beneath my fingers.

Joshua: "There really are things you cannot know without touching..."



There was passion in his eyes as he looked at me.

Joshua: "It was you who taught me that, Amaya."

Amaya: (Prince Joshua...)

He then pinned my wrist down on the sheets, and brought his face closer to mine.





I felt my heart grow hot in my chest.

Our breathing became short between kisses, and our bodies grew warmer as we touched.

Joshua: "I love you."

All the feelings I had kept locked away in my heart burst free as he whispered those words in my ear.




Why, yes, all the epilogues are about sexy-times. So there's that to look forward to. Or dread, depending on your point of view.

About the cat

I said it last time and I'll say it this time...
Apparently, a cat has made the yard its home.

I told Jan and thought he may try to get rid of it.

However, if he did that you might get sad, Amaya.
Oh well, I realized having a cat around isn't that bad...so I'll let it stick around for now.
In the future, if I don't feel like shooing it away, maybe I'll give it a name.

That also may be a problem I have with these protags, though, most of them seem to be written this way. Sassy heroines are too rare.

Flustered, she takes his hand, but she's still uneasy. She feels like the women around them are staring daggers at her, and she also can't dance.

Wilfred smiles.



He softly pulls her hand and gently draws her closer.

Wilfred: "I'll lead you."

Being held as if in an embrace, my heartbeat gradually quickened.

His hand in mine was warm and gentle.

While expressionless, his calming gaze somehow made me feel safe.

Amaya: "...Yes."

As Prince Wilfred danced, he adjusted our movements to match the song that was playing.

Wilfred: "Yes, that's right. Just follow my lead."

My heart beat frantically as he whispered the words to me.





Still holding her hand, he bows gracefully. Amaya can hear the shrieks of excited women all around them,

She watches him as she thinks that, and he gives a small laugh.

Heart heart beating fast, she shakes her head.

She bows her head, and Wilfred laughs and lets go of her hand.

She can feel the warmth of his hand and his stare linger. She watches him leave, and a strange feeling washes over her.

Amaya: (He is cool, but he gives me the impression of someone living above the clouds...)

So he's an angel? Yeah, I'll go with that.

A bit later, Amaya has managed to get through the ball without being mistaken for anyone's granddaughter or being kidnapped. Edward gives her a ride to the area near her apartment and she thanks him as she gets out of the car.



Amaya: "It was for me too. I had a lot of fun. I had no idea today would turn out like this."

Edward: "I get the feeling I will be seeing you again."

Amaya: "What?"

His only response is a smile.



Amaya: "Thank you. Goodbye."

Amaya bows her head and watches Edward's car disappear from sight.

Amaya: (Haha, it's like I'm in a dream.)

She looks down at herself.



Amaya: (I really was lucky, being able to go to such a place...)

She heads for her apartment.

Amaya: (Yep, from tomorrow I can carry on just as I have before!)

On her way back, she suddenly hears people making a racket up ahead.

Amaya: (What now?)

As I looked up, I could see a faint red glow against the night sky.



Amaya: (N-no way...)

...There I saw it.





I couldn't even get close, as the firefighters were in my way.

All I could do was watch the fire dance against the sky...

I just watched as everything I owned went up in flames.

And then, when the fire had been completely put out...


Well.

Now what?

You know.... I still can't get over the fact that just that one building is on fire but the other two isn't.....
