Based on this deduction, he's part of that game. Which is obviously being translated into English now.

Apparently, he occupies the same "space" in the 6 portraits in his game as Roberto does in Prince, so...perhaps the code got mixed up somehow?

She sighs, and then notices there's a blanket draped across her back. She wonders if Jan came in and covered her with it. The thought makes her happy, and she turns back to the paperwork.

Amaya's on her way to the dining hall for breakfast, when who should she bump into but...?

It's just her and Joshua in the dining hall. Amaya recalls that Joshua was the only one present at meals yesterday as well. He really does live separate to his parents.

Joshua: "Jan has gone out for a while. He should be back soon though; was there something you needed?"

Amaya: "Oh, no..."

With nothing better to do, she starts eating. She realizes the food tastes really good, and says so.

Joshua is reading the newspaper and responds without looking up.

Joshua: "Mm."

Amaya: "Are meals always like this?"

Joshua: "Mm."

Amaya: "Isn't it quiet sitting in here by yourself?"

Joshua: "Mm."

Amaya: "Are you listening to me?"

She's quiet for a second while she digests that, then speaks softly.

Amaya: "I don't mean to be rude Your Highness, but while I think rules are important... I believe a person's feelings are even more important."

Yes, the Gree's christmas side lottery is aheum.. a bit.. strange , I can't remember exactly who bring me this false reeinder trophy ( through collecting pinecones and candy canes yes,... I know) but the commoner in me says it's absolutely ugly, bad taste, not-princely a bit and looks like a decoration in a hunter's den at the far end of siberia, but, it give you +40 in charm! :D (at least it matches with my cheap patchwork blanket and the cardbox table that would make a beggar laugh)

I'm mad at Joshua acting like a jerk, but honestly, I find it more painful to see how this behaviour is going to royally shoot him in the foot in the long run. (... Pun not intented.)

I am fully blaming most of this behaviour on his upbringing. Considering the fact that most royalty, back in the day, were raised to believe themselves superior than the "peasants" they ruled over, I'm not surprised that Joshua has this kind of behaviour. Problem is, he should have been raised with the idea that he's responsible for a country and has to make sure he does thing right, which is a lot of pressure to work under, but it seems to me he was raised more with the "You are better than those people since you are of blue blood and will lead the stupid masses down the right path" slant to it. Which is destructive and will lead to a revolution in the long run.

Not to mention that, like everyone else has said, not taking into consideration how his people are going to feel will never lead to good things. Why was he raised with this mindset I don't fucking understanding how will this achieve anything?

You have my sympathies, Joshua. You're jerkass behaviour is seriously grating on my nerves, but I can't help but wince at the implications and consequences it will have.

Thank God THE POWER OF LOVE will be enough to change that. Since this is a game and idealism is totally okay in these settings.

Yeeeaaaah, I'm thowing my vote towards 'it's sad', as well.

Honestly, I'm not hating Joshua so much here, even though I want to smack him for being a jerkass. Mostly because it's obvious where his problems stem from (his shitty upbringing) and it's how it's going to bite him in the ass later on. Also, I think he's tolerable because the game treats his flaws as what they are, flaws. I mean, it honestly seems like his only friend is Jan; no one else wants to be around him, and the game makes it clear it's because of his behavior (well, so far at least).

I hate it when stories in general make characters like Joshua and either ignore his flaws and problems or, worse, make it seem desirable. Part of the reason I usually hate tsunderes.

This. I don't like Joshua's behaviour, but I wouldn't mind playing his route because no one's glossing it over like it's okay and ~romantic~. He gets called out on it (albeit not enough and not in a manner that will actually help anyone all that much), but hey, I'm actually looking forward to seeing him grow as a person.

Still feel like punching him though. But I don't hate him, I just hate the way he's acting.

I don't quite get why Joshy here is getting so much flack. Sure, he kind of kidnapped you and isn't polite, but I've seen this forum fawn over much worse. I think the real problem is that Joshua seems to be an introvert by nature; he's been raised to be and in some aspects is comfortable being alone. Look at how he acts at the party, he clearly does not want to be there but he is doing his duty. The way I'm reading it he is less 'commoners, those filthy masses' and more 'commoners, people that I'm not forced to interact with'. The only reason he took protag with him is an honest attempt to better relations with other countries.
Same thing with the newspaper. He uses his private time to understand situations going on both in his kingdom and in the world. He seems more likely to deal with the problem, not with the people.
Speaking of which, I can understand his annoyance at breakfast; some people (myself included) just don't do human interaction at that time. I can't stand the sound of a human voice if it's not coming out of a speaker and will watch anime as I eat if I can get away with it. If he's anything like that, then he's trying to be nice simply by eating at the same table with her in the morning. Actually, he's being nice either way because he's inviting her into his morning ritual.
So, um, can we wait a chapter or two before we bring out the pitchforks?
