As Amaya is getting all giddy with expectation, the phone rings. Will moves to answer it and tells Amaya he'll arrange some dresses for her to try on.

She looks away from him as he picks up the phone, and her eyes settle on the flowers.

Amaya: (He probably just needed someone to go with... It's not like he wants me specifically.)

The flowers quivered slightly in my sight.

...Goddamnit.

AMAYA. THE ONLY WAY HE COULD MAKE IT MORE OBVIOUS THAT HE LIKES YOU IS TO BE WAITING FOR YOU IN YOUR BED WEARING NOTHING BUT A BOW-TIE AND A SMILE AND THAT WOULD JUST BE CREEPY, SO LET'S NOT GO THERE PLEASE. At least, let's not go there yet.

She stares at the flowers for a little while as Will is on the phone, and then she leaves the room.



Speaking of the devil, Amaya spots Claude on the stairs in front of her.

As she speaks, she looks at the wall and one of the portraits catches her attention. Claude follows her gaze and comments.

Claude: "This is of our 96th Sovereign, Her Royal Highness Queen Sylvia."

Amaya: "I know, I heard that she was much loved by the people, and drew a lot of attention from overseas."

The woman in the portrait is very beautiful and dignified.

Claude: "Prince Wilfred is her great grandson on the direct line of succession. He is set to become a much celebrated 100th sovereign of the kingdom."

Amaya: (Wow, really...? Though... now that I look at her face again, I can see the resemblance.)

Amaya: "It's wonderful that she was Queen. There are many countries that still won't allow a female to rule."

Claude smiles a little.

Despite how much I love Claude, I was super hating on him after this scene. By the end of this route and the epilogue though, I was all over it. I imagine that Claude was in a horrible relationship at some point and his 'hate' of women comes from this. Playing the good route also made me more sympathetic to him. Its more obvious there than on the Happy route that he has a massive amount of guilt in how he's handling this situation, but still feels obligated to push the MC out of the picture. I want his route so bad! :D

I'm okay with this reasoning. I'm really okay with this reasoning. :D

Amaya's new task is to sweep the garden paths.

Amaya: (This place is huge. I'm not sure I can get rid of all these leaves on my own.)

As she's looking around, she spots Will stretched out on a bench on the edge of the gardens.

Just like the other night, he's asleep with an open book on his chest.





Wilfred: "Amaya?"

Amaya: "Y-yes?"

He just closes his eyes and goes back to sleep.

He looked as peaceful as a sleeping child and I couldn't tear myself away.

And then her phone rings.

She hurries away from Will so she can answer it without waking him.

It's Claude.

I'm really not in the mood to deal with him right now.

Claude: "Miss Amaya. I would be much obliged if you could return to your room."

Amaya: "Oh... But I haven't finished the garden yet..."

Claude: "That is fine. I would like to ask you to come to your room right now."

He sounds impatient.

Please don't tell me he's doing this because he saw her with Will in the garden.

Amaya: "Okay, I'll be up soon."

She takes one last look at Will and leaves.

Thankfully, Claude is nowhere to be seen when she gets to her room. Just some maids. And dresses.

A lot of dresses.



Amaya: "Wha...what is this?"

Maid A: "A dress for you to wear to Lord Michel's party, miss."

Amaya: "A dress?"

Maid B: "Feel free to choose whichever you want."

She looks around.

Amaya: "Whichever I want..."

Amaya: (Is this what Prince Wilfred meant by arranging some dresses?)

Looks that way.

Amaya looks at a dress, thinking it's something a princess would wear. Then one of the maid's mentions making purchasing arrangements. Amaya is a bit taken aback and asks how much one of the dresses usually costs. The maids hesitate, saying it depends on the dress, but at a guess, at least a million. Amaya lets go of the dress.



Flustered, the maids ask her to wait a moment, then rush from the room.

She takes another look at the dresses surrounding her.

Amaya: (A million for just one dress. No wonder a commoner like me hasn't a chance in this society.)

Amaya. Take the damn dress. They have a wardrobe budget. You are escorting a prince to a ball. You CAN'T embarrass him.

Her eyes land on a particularly lovely dress. She pulls it down and drapes it over her front.

It was simple in design and very elegant. It delighted my heart to see it.

Amaya: "Wow... This dress is fit for royalty."

Someone behind her speaks up.

??: "Do you like that one?"

Amaya: "What!?"



Amaya: (Aah...)

I cut a lot of these out, but this is her reaction almost every time she sees Will.

Amaya: "Oh... No I..."

She lowers her eyes.

Amaya: "But... What brings you here Prince Wilfred?"

Amaya: (He was asleep in the garden a moment ago...)



Amaya: "I... I'm very sorry."

Wilfred: "Don't worry about it. Are there no dresses you like?"

Amaya: "It's not that. I don't feel comfortable accepting anything as expensive as these."

Wilfred: "It was me who invited you to the party. It is important I find you a suitable dress to wear."

She struggles for words.

Amaya: "That may be so, but... Perhaps you could find something I can merely borrow, without going to all this expense..."

TAKE. THE. DRESS.



Wilfred: "All this expense... I don't really see it as expense if it is for you..."

Will, you absolute sweetheart.



Amaya: "Wha...?"



Wilfred: "For now I guess I'll have to have these removed."


Will, you troll.

Amaya: (Did I just make Prince Wilfred mad...?)

The maids come back and clear out all the dresses, returning the room to normal.

I sat down on the edge of my bed, feeling despondent.

Amaya: (I know they went to some trouble to arrange that for me.)


*sigh*

GET SOME FUCKING BACKBONE. I'm sorry, this is pissing me off.

Spineless protags annoy me so very much.
The only reason I'm not raging here is because Wills is a sweetheart.

I want to get mad at Amaya except I do the exact same thing.

Except unlike Amaya, I end up accepting the gift because guilt and MONEY WAS ALREADY SPENT TAKE THE DAMN DRESS AMAYA
