Given all the headcanons, and the occasional fanfiction idea, that are determined in the process of an LP, I figured that they needed a thread all of their own to call home. Feel free to debate/discuss/add to any headcanon and/or fanfiction idea, as long as the creator doesn't care, of course.

Also, if you write fanfictions and have them posted anywhere on the web, feel free to post a link to your account. I'm over on fanfiction.net as liuli-xia.

Current fanfiction idea (somewhat developed in the second Hakuouki thread)-
    Princess Bride: Hakuouki Style
    featuring:
    Hakuchi as Buttercup
    Hijikata as Wesley
    Okita- Inigo Montoya
    Kondou- Inigo's deceased father
The rest of the casting is in progress. Suggestions welcome.

I have headcanon'd a final episode of Lost that doesn't suck and an ending to the Matrix Reloaded that doesn't suck but requires a completely different Revolutions.

You probably know what fanfiction is, but, just in case you or others don't, it's stories written by the fans of a work that expands on said work. For example, somebody wrote a different ending for Neon Genesis Evangelion, and (as I recall) it's actually surprisingly good. Some related terminology: a "lemon" is a pornographic fanfic.
Fun fact: 50 Shades of Gray started off as Twilight fanfiction.

Headcanon is things that are not part of a work that somebody chooses to believe anyway. As a mild example, the third episode of the Leg Wounder ends ambiguously, with the titular Leg Wounder deciding whether or not he should kill an evil dude. In the headcanon of Quackers, he did. The thing is, it's never mentioned again and so, while it may well be the case that Mr. Wounder killed the guy, this isn't the canonical truth in that world. So headcanon is basically shorthand for something like "As far as I'm concerned, after Darth Vader died, Luke totally knocked up Leia because I have a creepy obsession with incest".

I'm insulted that you presume that I don't know those things. INSULTED. I sentence you to three readings of Yuffie's Chocobo.

Oh, wait. You might have meant other people.

The rest of the post makes me ;_;, as while it's one thing to ponder probabilities of ambiguity (a long historical passtime of those who enjoy any entertainment at all), the latter is...WHY?! GOD WHY?!

This is one of those thread where the grizzled veterans of 1000 internet wars unleash on the denizens of the LP forum. The LP forumites then wonder what they've done to deserve this kind of treatment (hint: you posted where the grizzled veterans actually read) and retreat, wounded, limping, and heartbroken back to the LP forum.

Then someone who speaks both languages arrives and shouts at the grizzled veterans for... doing what they do. The veterans, harbor that castigation for the next war, and retreat back to... Oh wait, the veterans never retreat, they just grow tired of hitting something that doesn't hit back.

Then someone makes a thread in Drama Llama wondering why the board is so bifurcated.

That is my fanfiction. That is my headcanon.

As someone who's written a lot of fan-fiction in my early years, I have no problem with it as a source of enjoyment/writing practice/homage. For much the same reason, I enjoy cross-genre movie remakes (The Magnificent Seven/Seven Samurai, for example) and cover songs - I like seeing different writers/artists taking a new approach to an existing story or concept. For purposes of expounding upon a Let's Play, it can really work to draw people in. I'll use Matt Bowyer and Rapunzel 's LP of Icewind Dale 2 using the characters from Hakuoki, then taking that framework and weaving a supplemental narrative around it.

As a storytelling device? Perfectly fine. After all, nobody looked down on Disney for their Snow White fanfiction movie back in 1937.
  26. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

If you mean why it isn't in the Kawaii thread, that's because FanFiction isn't limited to Japanese related media and it's entertaining to read, I guess? Unless there's another forum this could go under.

Not to mention that there's nothing wrong with fanfiction. It happens all the time, it just gets posted on the Internet now since it got created.

Heck, there are a lot of popular stories out there that are basically reimaginings of old stories or folktales. That's technically fanfiction.
  27. Lizzy Magister Mundi Elyscape

I know, but the first post had references to Japanese media. It's pretty obvious by now (or at least IMO) that most people who don't venture into LP and Kawaii won't know any of that stuff. In fact, most of them voted to create an entire (quite thriving) subforum so they wouldn't have to deal with it.

Let me also state for the record that I have no problem with fanfiction, though I have no interest in writing/reading it whatsoever.
  28. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

Point taken, but this does feel like the most appropriate forum, references to Japanese media aside.

Though I think that if people are fine with fanart, fanfiction isn't too much of a stretch to tolerate (depending on content, of course). Headcanon is also very, very general (albeit the term isn't frequently used outside of certain circles) since everyone I've met has a different interpretation of events in a show/game/movie/novel/comic/whatever, so I think this is still a good enough bridge for everyone to cross on.

I guess it's really the approach and the manner of broaching the topic that's the problem? We just need to make the subjects being discussed here more varied so everyone doesn't feel harassed.

Or something. I don't know, I'm just speculating, really.

My view is, abusive behavior and horror pictures like Bryce's there aside, I don't care what anyone posts and where they post it. Really, what's the big deal? What's so hard to endure about a few posts on a subject you don't care about in a place you don't want to read it? I don't get it. Someone explain it to me.

  37. Lizzy Magister Mundi Elyscape

I agree with you on principle, but I think most of the posts on this page prove that it's not really working. I was just really annoyed that yet again the same bullshit is happening. Only this time I think it could have been prevented. The reason I said "But fanfiction?" didn't mean I was slagging off fanfiction, it meant that it could have been predicted the Sangry Grognards would be all "Fanfiction? In my own backyard? I shall show my dissapproval of this!".
Honestly, I think this will end in tears for everyone except Adree who will be maniacally laughing in a dark corner, twirling his moustache.

Ooh, ooh! I can be all grognardy about this. I actually fucking detest 99% of fanfiction. I can see it as an excuse for a writing exercise sometimes, but then it's too easy to make a crutch out of it without developing your own skills. You end up with things like My Immortal as a result of that, though there are some occasional competent parody/satire fanfictions which usually brutally mock a horrible series. There's also the old "new take on the old thing", which is perfectly fine and fun when done right. Everyone enjoyed the tale of Bollocks Mahoney.

My general exceptions are twofold. Remaking a well known story in a new way can be great. That covers 99% of Disney's early stuff, and it covers newer things like Dante's Inferno (the Victorian paper puppet movie/LA/Political satire you all need to rent/buy, not the mediocre-but-still-better-than-God-of-War-ripoff game or its equally mediocre animated movie).

There's also writing something in someone else's universe/setting, but not re-using their characters to do it beyond a cameo, and not a cameo where your self-insert character has sex with them for fuck's sake what is wrong with you god I hate you. Within that space, you can find a lot of interesting stories, and hey, that's great. I'd take a lot of Star Wars universe fanfic over the actually god damn EU, that's for sure. Especially where Troy Denning is concerned.

That one covers also a damn ton of RPGs, especially MUSHes and MOOs and the other telnet types, since they are, in essence, collaborative fanfiction. But D&D is basically collaborative Tolkien fanfiction and there sure are five million fully written and realized Middle Earth scenarios that play around with the LoTR events.
