Yesterday I found a mug of black tea in the microwave that I had rewarmed the day before. I rewarmed it again and then added a shot of Makers on a whim. It was gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood.
Speaking of port wine, you should check the ones fom the Real Companhia Velha. Me, I'm lucky. In my family there are several port wine and muscat wine producers, so, every time I visit them they give me some bottles of their private wine cellar. Delicious 20ish port and muscat wines aged in oak :) .. Yep, trying hard not to gloat :D
Speaking of which, one of the new product announcements in the industry this week was Courvoisier Gold, a new product by Beam (who owns Courvoisier cognac). It's part cognac and part moscato (not sure yet on the blend percentage). But basically it made my no-no place say yes-yes. Hope to see it on shelves within 90 days...
I believe it was Hanzii that first recommended Amarula; I finally picked some up yesterday, and man, it is delicious. I've never tasted marula fruit before, so I had no idea what to expect, but it's really a unique and fairly subtle flavor. We barely prevented ourselves from drinking the whole bottle in one evening. It's pretty mild at 34 proof and easily drinkable over ice. Highly recommended if you can find it, and it's only about $20 a bottle here.
Glad you like it. I don't drink many liqeurs, but tasting this in South Africa made me bring a bottle home.
I just discovered Rumchata. Something tells me it won't be long before I start buying horchata and making my own mixes with different rums, and then coming up with my own recipes for horchata. Down this path lies madness. Delicious, delicious madness.
OMG OMG guys guys guys! I just found the coolest thing. Someone posted this on a forum I hang out on: I must make this. Immediately.
Wow. I'll second the Amarula likes though. Found some on the bottom shelf at a giant liquor store. Good stuff. I think I'll have some right now.
That's pretty popular out in the bits of Appalachia near Pittsburgh, but people make it with white dog or moonshine instead of bourbon. It tastes just like a delicious apple pie, except for the part where after enough of it you're pretty sure you USED to know how to walk.
Sounds like a kind of boilo. My grandparents from the coal cracker region of PA used to talk about that.
So I googled "boilo", and it's every bit as awesome as I hoped: http://www.citypaper.net/blogs/mealticket/boilo_the_anthracite_coal_miners_cure_for_everything.html Edit: holy shit, that recipe calls for a GALLON OF EVERCLEAR.
Yup. I recall being given some once, as a little kid, when I had a bad cold or something. Benadryl ain't got nothin' on boilo. ...and I'm probably related - or at least less than six degrees of separation - to someone in that article.
Safeway currently has, among other things, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey gift sets on sale for approximately $16. That's 750mL of sweet Jacknectar and 2 Jacknectar-branded shot glasses. For $16.
shift6 I'm sorry but I must confess that I prefer JD Honey to Wild Turkey Honey. Just seems to be more depth and complexity. Don't hate me.
The shop at the German border had Jim Bean Honey, but I bought whisky instead. I shall buy JD Honey when I go to Vegas in January, you guys have me convinced.
I bounce between those two (and a couple others) as well depending on my mood, the weather, etc. WT:AH was just my first so it has that soft spot in my heart heheh. Pretty soon I plan on trying the Seagrams 7 and Evan Williams honeys as well, so we'll see if there are further changes.
Aww. I know you like me (I can tell because there's a handy alert function), but you really shouldn't. We hardly know each other.
I tried Tuaca at a recent family gathering - very nice, especially mixed with pineapple juice. A touch too sharp for straight on ice though.
I just tried some of the Wild Turkey American Honey. What the fuck is wrong with you people? Do you drink it from your sippy cups?
How about you namby-pampies* grow some chest hair and try some Bulleit Rye? I'm having myself a nice old fashioned made with such and it's delicious. * just kidding**; I had some of the Wild Turkey American Honey last weekend and it was surprisingly good; I can totally see how if you're not a whisky person it might appeal to you. ** not really
Way to take it all serious! And yeah, it is awesome stuff. Strange, since I don't like their bourbon.
Stupid fucking Michigan liquor controlled prices, it's literally illegal to sell that stuff (or anything else) anywhere near that cheap here.
