The first time I discovered Homestuck (I am not a fan of it) was when I saw pictures of a coworker cosplaying as Homestuck characters. I am also not a fan of cosplaying and its culture (but I'm not a hater on it). I almost lost it -- I felt like I'd discovered a weirder alternate internet.

Sorry MulMizu, but you just proved me right.

Cake has to resort to visual treachery to stand out. Sure, it's pretty. It has to be, because its flavor is so limited. A few bites in, it's still just cake.

Pie, though. Pie is great all the way through with a thin slice of "Eh" on bottom, which is still mitigated by delicious filling.

Allow me to retort with science courtesy of Hyperbole and a Half.

    This is a fancy cheesecake.

It doesn't try to hide what it is. It's a motherfucking pie, and it wants you to know it. Why? Because pie is amazing.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to apply this metaphor to the LPs.

Visual novels and dating sims tend to start strong and end strong with a lot of "meh" in the middle full of derail. Other games are a little slower to start and have a weaker LP end, but everything in the middle is just the best, and they don't go off into a tangent from the good part, it's all about the delicious game, not some sidetrack conversation about maid-licking.

I don't have a formal position on cake vs. pie, but you can't just arbitrarily declare cakes pies to win the argument, Zekedms.

Deal with it. Cake is a batter, baked in a pan, crustless (unless burnt, I suppose) and frosted.

Pie is filling poured into a crust, usually baked after (though some pies involve a wet filling which sets on its own).

Cheesecake is a filling poured into a crust, usually baked.

Cheesecake is a pie. Pie is better.

In this way, Rig and Roll, Crusader Kings II, and Dwarf Fortress LPs are better than Fatal Hearts and Love Revo.

Yeah, that's right bitches. Derail being used to stoke on-topic factionalism!

I don't care for cheesecake. It's just the wrong texture, and usually overly sweet. Oddly, pumpkin pie is my fav. pie.

Best food item I ever put in my mouth: tie between the first time I had tiramisu and the first (and so far only) time I had tres leches cake. Based on that, I have to go with cake, although both of those are somewhat unusual cakes.

So basically, you would rather have this thing that's shitty on top, DELICIOUS IN THE MIDDLE, but ends with disappointment?

i could say something here but i won't because deep down in my heart a part of me cares about you

EDIT: tres leches is the best it's so good when it's made right

It effectively translates to "come and get it." In the spirit of playful dickery, one must use the tongue of one's perceived opposition.

Are you aware you just described life itself? Pie is life. Besides, the end is still nice, especially if it's a good graham cracker crust. Give me a solid mass of goodness compared to a ton of mediocrity, that's all I'm saying.

Ahh. That's what I get for relying on the Google machine.

Back to the discussion at hand, I like both pie and cake. That said, pie does tend to have a bit of an edge over cake with me... I love me some Key Lime pie... or a nice Lemon Merangue... Mmmmm...

I have a few technical problems with the LP forum.

First the thread prefixes are entirely useless and serve only to clutter up the screen. For instance while some are instructional - such as Dating, Wargames, RPG - most are not. How does "...forever alone..." or "LADIES :3" denote anything?

Second I don't think it was ever made particularly clear that you can simply click on a prefix and be linked to a list of only those threads with the same prefix. I didn't even know you could do that until ten minutes ago. Want to only look at Wargames? Dating? Simply making that more identifiable (say by putting all the prefixes at the top of the LP subforum) would probably solve most of the issues people are having with the Dating Sims getting the most traffic.

Nobody wants that, and that's not what pie is in any sense. Nobody eats the filling and saves the bottom of the crust for the end. You eat the crust with the filling and that is how it fucking works.

Pie is pretty close to objectively superior. Cake is certainly not bad, but there are so many ways to fuck cake up or simply create a cake that nobody wants to even touch because the cake part is dry or the frosting is weird and gross or whatever. I have never seen anyone refuse pie of any kind that wasn't something they were allergic to.

    HOWEVER...

WRONG. Cheesecake is by definition NOT pie, because the crust has no sides. Cheesecake is a custard, and is neither cake nor pie, therefore your entire argument is retarded invalid. Try harder. Try again.

  22. CSL Despondent Fancybear

Oh! Then I must note that I find neither cake, nor pie, to be very appealing.

    Doughnuts on the other hand.
  23. Zekedms Elitist Negative Nancy

I'm unaware of the crust-sides rule, however there are cheesecakes of both varieties. That said, I'm sticking with the consideration of it being a custard pie (as is Alton Brown, in a blatant appeal to expertise).

I relayed your appeal to Alton Brown's authority to my baker friend who had originally given me the "cheesecake != pie" explanation, and she laughed out loud and said "Just stop talking to whoever this dipshit is who's clearly never even seen a proper kitchen."

Just goes to show, even people who don't know shit about pie know that pie is better.
