People who wear flannel and jeans because they live in arctic zones don't really qualify as grunge kids.

I think the main difference between the way I dressed in the '90s and the way I dress now is the color and cut of my jeans. I think I even still have a couple of T-Shirts from then.

You know how some peeps who grew up in the 80s still tight-rolled their jeans, wore denim jackets, and teased their permed hair up real high looooong after the 80s concluded?

I now have a friend who still wears jorts with Converse, an untucked unbuttoned flannel shirt over a tie-dyed t-shirt, and a baseball cap worn backwards. He's nearing 40. It's 2012.

I don't give two whiffs about fashion. Let's just keep 80's music locked in a lead-lined vault where it can't do any harm.

Yeah, I have next to zero fashion sense or awareness of trendy attire, but at least I knew enough to retire my flannels before the turn of the millenium.

Now I just wear skin-tight vinyl suits and helmets with blinking lights on them.

I do, too! We had a big dog that was a sloppy eater. The carpet in the kitchen seemed very cool and futuristic to me when it was put in but I was just a dumb kid. I don't know what my parents were thinking (bless their hearts). At least we replaced the shag in the living room.

Listen, I'm not going to defend my eating habits -- they are, to say the least, extreme and you guys really have no idea just how extreme, though I'm clearly on the right (cake) side of the dessert aisle.

But if you youngsters cannot cope with the 80's being objectively the worst musical decade, I'm not going to don the Litelsuit just to help you sleep at night.

The Pixies are anecdata, an exception proving the rule.

Serious response: the shitty pop music from every decade is shitty. That the shitty pop music from the eighties coheres more strictly to a type doesn't make it worse, it just makes it more easily identifiable. Meanwhile, it doesn't detract from the decade's good music any more than shitty pop music detracts from good music in any other decade.

Well, if you're going to get all serious, yes, of course there's plenty of great 80's music.

I think the 80's sticks in my mind because my AM radio years were the 60's, 70's and 80's, and 80's pop radio was uniformly more awful than the prior decades. I stick by that assertion.

The 80s really was worse for music than everything before or after. I'm sorry.

I mean, listen to this. This is a stage filled with legendary musicians playing a classic composition, and it sucks.

The 80's brought us gangsta rap.

It also brought us Fairytale of New York

The 80's also brought us the tail end of punk which is how I first learned how not to hate 80's music.
