The lyrics there are perfectly straightforward social commentary on how chiropractic is sometimes dangerous quackery.

Nope, I mean the 2000-2009 period (approximately), to match the 1980-1989 approximate period.

Just as Obama gets to blame the economy when he first took office on Bush, good music from 1981 is a product of the 70s.

I wonder if this kid's a little fucked up as well:

I hate metal with screaming/growling/stupid vocals too, so you may dig some of the female-lead metal I dig. Take a listen to my Pandora station (not just metal, but for the most part, 99% of what pops up is female vocalists and rock-oriented) or check out my metal-thread mega post.

I know I am late to the party, so to speak, but here is my testimonial that music from the 80s isn't bad:

The one thing I will regret for the rest of my life is that I was too young to be able to see Oingo Boingo in concert at the time they did live shows, because they were phenomenal live.

Another Oingo Boingo fan! I did see them live, it was awesome.

Rap: I get it when people say they prefer music with melody, but I bet you like the occasional drum solo. :) I enjoy rhythm as well as melody, and clever wordplay and social commentary are cool, so there's plenty of rap I like when I hear it, but I rarely seek it out. My first impressions of rap were formed by the bitch/ho/copkiller stereotype, so I tend to avoid it.

Btw, can I just say, that all this "The music from the [insert random decade]'s was awful!" stuff is kind of ridiculous? Almost all music in the charts of all time is an abomination, and I'll admit it seems to be a little more so in the last decade (I don't remember exactly what it was, but wasn't there a scale that showed that pop-music in the charts was becoming less diverse or something?). Doesn't mean that there wasn't good music in these decades at all. It just means you have to search for it a little harder.

It's easier to remember the terrible music of today, and the last few years because it just happened. No one remembers the terrible bands of the 70s or 80s because why the fuck would anyone want to remember that shit?

I understand why people like System of a Down (and Rage Against the Machine) due to good lyrics, being socially conscious, etc., but would rather walk blindfolded through a field of discarded rakes with scrotum-height handles than listen to them.

They don't have good lyrics. Their lyrics are complete gibberish.

I liked System of a Down for a while because the music was catchy as hell and had some great hooks. It's a shame the lyrics are total mush.

Elyscape not sure if you like any Celph Titled (horrorcore), but he's pretty consistent with his lyrics. Esoteric sucks in this song, but I think Celph is pretty awesome.

Favorite line: "Can't say hi to my neighbors without waving a gun" although the hook is pretty badass too, IMO.

Mine too. Except that my reaction was pretty much the opposite. Gangsta rap will always have a special place in my heart. It was everything my impressionable teen mind wanted from music. Loud, boisterous, offensive, cool, in short, everything I wasn't. As I got older I realised that the message of the music is pretty damn horrible but I also realised that I gave zero fucks.

You're younger than me :) I was a senior in college when Straight Outta Compton came out for instance. When I was a teenager breakdancing was the closest we got, and that was just silly.

If you look into hip hop as an African American art form with roots reaching back through the dozens and ultimately to the African griot tradition, it's pretty freaking cool. I don't know much about it really (heya Wikipedia!) but I think the history is neat.
