Once Upon a Time (Mafia) - Singup and Yappery Thread

Once Upon a Time there was a village, and within this village lived a woodcutter and his wife. On occasion, the wife would venture into the woods to deliver a small care package to her mother, never straying far from the path. It must be said the forest was home to a host of creatures of all shapes and sizes, but none were more fearsome than the wolf, and once you went off course you would almost certainly be at his mercy.

Every time she passed through them to visit her mother, the woods would attempt to entice her away from her path, but she would not be swayed.

It would so happen one day the woodcutter and his had a daughter. The mother was so overjoyed, she made a little red hood, to keep her warm. One day, when the mother thought her old enough, she prepared another package for her mother, and sent her little girl off with these words.

"Do not stray from the path, my daughter. There are many dangerous things in the woods that would gladly ensnare you given only the chance. Be careful, and trust your heart, not your eyes."

And with that, the girl ventured off into the forest, alone.

Rules

1. This is a game, so treat it as such, and play to win as well as have fun.

2. Please bold and color all votes and unvotes. I don't necessarily care if you do the usual blue and red color scheme, as long as I can notice it, like thus:

3. As an addenum, voting will work differently. Rather than a plurality lynch, we will have a Majority lynch. To help ease this, I will be implementing deadline votes, which will take effect at the end of day. Deadline votes are cast like normal votes, just with the word deadline slapped in front of vote, like this:

Deadline Vote: Paranoia

Deadline votes will disappear at half or fewer players left alive, so do keep this in mind.

4. No quoting mod communications. I know I know this is usually allowed but it always bothers me.

5. Please don't talk about the game off site unless you can actually legally talk to that player. And if that is the case, please do it through moderator approved venues only.

6. Days will last for five real life days (120 hours) a piece at the start of the game. Depending on how many people are alive later on, days may last as few as three days (72 hours) later on.

7. I will actively seek substitutions for a player if either of the following two ocnditions are met: That player has not posted for a full game day (120 hours), or they fail to check in with me the night following a day they failed to post in if day ended early.

8. Please no commenting on the game once dead. I'll be sending a deadchat quicktopic to people who have shuffled off the mortal coil, but try to keep this thread clean of it.

1. There will be no recruitment mechanics, of any shape or size.

2. There will be no powers by which someone is denied the right to vote.

3. There may be multiple factions!

4. Not everything is as it may seem.

5. I will reveal all information about a players role upon their death, excluding, of course, information they learned.

6. This is a closed setup game.

Well, I guess I'll give this a go! Not sure if just posting here like this is enough, but here you are. I have a question, though: What does a "closed setup game" constitute?

You might want a few posts or a thread in the LP Subforum or January; the League doesn't often see the light of day.

Closed setup mafias tend to not have roles known at the start of the game - where in tinyhunt I had a list of everything that was in the game, here you don't know. Do rest assured that I will do my utmost best to ensure it is a balanced and fun experience for all.

Hi! I have some questions.

So the game is Little Red Riding Hood themed, but I'm not sure how that translates into a mafia game. Who do we play as? Are we all little red riding hoods?

I had to look up the difference between plurality and majority voting. Which seems to be plurality = the choice with the most votes wins, and majority = only a choice with over half of the available votes can win. Is that right?
Deadline vote is something I can only guess at. Is is a vote that only takes effect at the deadline? That would seem to also imply that the turns will be cut short as soon as there is a majority of normal votes. Is this right?

Edit: Also! Is this a pure mechanics game, or also roleplay-encouraged like Light's Glory?

This is correct. With a normal vote the turn will end when a majority is reached, but a deadline vote isn't counted until the deadline.

Not really, no. When roles actually do go out you'll see what you get. Until then that will remain a mystery. Which reminds me, expect role pms to come with a character and flavor.

Seems like a good idea. While longer days gives everyone a chance to post, 120 hours seems like overkill. Hell, you could even shorten it to 48 hours. 120 hours would likely just leave us with a lot of spare time. And you know what happens when we have too much time on our hands.

I have to agree with everyone else. 120 hours is a bit much. I've played a game where inactivity was rampant and I think part of the reason was because the days were too long. 72 hours is a better time. This forum has enough active people to ensure that we don't have days with no lynches.

Can I deal with three forum games at the same time? The answer is probably "no way in hell", but since I'm smart like that, would you please sign me up as well? Sounds really fun.

120 hours seems like overkill, as everyone has said. Two or three days would be much more reasonable, IMHO... but then again, I have next to no experience in these things and for all I know, the rules could include things contrived enough to deserve the five days of wait? Dunno, really.

FAIRYTALES!? Count me in on this bandwagon! Even if I'm largely ignorant to what's going on what could go wrong with roleplaying fairytale characters in a mafia?

Just wanted to state that the game is now full (not counting the substitutes), and I'm curious to see what happens. I love fairy tales :).

P.S. Roleplay if you want - if you have a fairytale character or archtype in mind I'd be more than happy to build your role flavor around that. Just don't forget that maybe roleplaying as your character might not be the best idea - who knows what is watching.

As a side comment, I find the number 21 to be rather unusual and contrived, which leads me to wonder whether there will be either three factions of seven people, or seven factions of three people.

I'm not going to discourage pregame speculation because it makes me giggle uncontrollably.

I think this is going to be a faction of 20 vs a faction of 1.

If that's the case, then by god I hope I get to be the lone red riding hood fighting off the wolf horde.
