Pub culture in Ireland (and I'd say this is more of a UK problem, but what do I know, I'm a fucking Yank) needs to be dragged into the street and shot in the head, if it's going to produce assholes who can't control their drinking like fucking adults.
I'm sympathetic to the idea that mass transit should always be available after closing time, but the solution isn't "so uh, let's just allow people to do something incredibly dangerous!" Rural areas are tough due to lack of transit infrastructure, but I still don't really feel like this is a solution. But hey, I pretty much never drink (and always sign up for DD when going out) so I may be missing out on the culture a bit.
An ex-lady friend sent me this link cuz we used to rage against libertarians/Rand folk together. You've got to make a profile to get deeper and I'm not sure I want to, but the whole idea is ridiculous to me. A Randian dating site. Jesus. The only thing I can think of doing is going on a date with one of them, sucker punch them, and run off cackling about Lenin and Trotsky and collectivism. The single most important thing to this man's personality is that he's rational. Who the fuck finds that as the most attractive aspect of someone?
Well you can't describe yourself as "boring and robotic" and expect to get dates! Even libertarians! Too bad that screenshot doesn't have his entire text, where I can pretty much guarantee that numbered list he's started there ends up being pretty irrational in terms of his expectations.
I like how he's all "I want a woman who is intelligent. Because you probably haven't seen that word before, intelligent means..."
I think I can finish it: "In this context 1. intelligent means using objectivity and rationality to discern the correctness of my positions. 2. Sensitive means using objectivity and rationality to perceive my needs and the optimal means of achieving their fulfillment. 3. Passionate lady means using objectivity and rationality to ascertain the correct methods means and times of satisfying the carnal desires of a man of rationality (me) in a way that is both feminine and reasonable." Seems pretty rational to me.
Here you go. I would have crossed out the location or name, personally, but I get that it's publicly visible. The following isn't, but doesn't add any identifying information.
Those are the weirdest definitions of "sensitive" and "passionate" I've ever seen. I say this as someone who is sensitive, passionate, and rational. Passionately rational.
I'm willing to believe those are the weirdest definitions you've seen, but I'm still going to have to see several three-point lists explaining how.
I like how "live her own life" means "does whatever I tell her to do if she doesn't do it the way I like it."
A perfect rationalist would, in fact, be perfectly sensitive (because emotions are an integral part of a functioning model of human behavior) and empathetic. Too bad douchebags like this asshole exist to give that unattainable goal such a slimy veneer of shitfuckery.
"I want a free thinking rational intelligent woman like me. Here is the list of the 60 year old societal norms movies and TV have taught me to adhere to."
I'm thinking more like the few fulfilling relationships in his life have been repressed doormats, leaving him to believe all other women are irrational feminist know-nothings*. Such a sweetheart! This shouldn't shock anyone who's read Rand's "male admiration" and "welcome rape" tripe. *no relation to the nativist movement, keep your pedantry in your pants
Someone at the National Review just approved of Lebensraum and Eugenics and I am pretty sure the only reason she did not use those words exactly has more to do with spellcheck than anything.
Investigative fucking journalism, yo! During what movie did alanis morissette go down on dave coulier?: a crackpot investigates.
I believe the correct paraphrase of that is "Say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, at least it's an ethos"
"I'm not saying the Holocaust was like the greatest thing ever, but it was sensible. Like a knee-length skirt and black pumps." Great Googily Moogily.
I've linked before to this essay and keep having it reinforced. Or getting all semantics fauxspergy that you can't really say the Nazis were senseless because semantically speaking that's not precise and isn't it just like liberals to not know what words mean QED.
People the Wall Street Journal Finds Interesting, Chapter I: Emergency Backup Brian Dennehy and His Pals.
Johnson has come "a long way" from writing "shitty" articles back at "Yale". But you never quite get the mark of FronTpAge off your writing. Seeing a David Horowitz performance in person remains one of the most singularly unpleasant experiences from my time as a politically active conservative, and he knows how to pick guest writers. Experienced overzealous conservative watchers will go to the stirring conclusion to see the foundation for a lifetime of Inappropriate Juxtaposition Baiting, the journeyman level of the false equivalence profession.
Did you guys hear about how The New Republic got rid of its Jews? Here the right wing press takes on the issue of the new(ish) owner of the New Republic's progrom against the Jews. Its a very short and stupid article, pretty much the only thing that makes it worth reading is Johnathan Chait's savaging of it. After dispensing with the article Chait turns to The Washington Free Beacon. I think the "Holocaust was sensible (because Obama said wit was senseless)." and the Washington Beacon are examples of politics as a World Wrestling Federation feud.
It's strange that he calls the Free Beacon an innovator. Or, more likely, just lazy writing on Chait's part. Not only because I just mentioned him, but Horowitz and Bernard Goldberg were way ahead of him along with the giants on whose shoulders they stood.
