I saw some people using female pronouns to refer to you, so I just assumed they knew you were a girl and just went with it.
But before that I was never quite sure, I even remember calling you "Parental Figure" instead of mom/dad because of that.

I am so confused about everybody on this forum right now.
  3. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

THANK YOU. Honestly, I wish this was the default in real life as well. It should be common courtesy when introducing yourself to someone to state what pronoun you prefer to address you. That way, I can skip guessing gender (which I hate doing anyway because it's fucking beyond me) and I can just use what you like.

In all honesty, your username always made me think of you as a guy.
  5. Eboby Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Also for the record, because I know you all want an accurate mental image of who you're lusting after:
Biologically female with an agender gender identity.
Also an asexual panromantic. I'm sure you're all very pretty, but it's your insides personalities that I like.
  6. Ravenholme Already Beat BF's New Expansion

One problem is that we don't (or as far as I'm aware, and please forgive my ignorance on this issue if I'm wrong) have a polite honorific in the vein of "Sir/Madam" to describe people on the sliding scale around and between the two binary biological genders, which is actually something I had a "Oh crap, what will I do?" moment when I was thinking about this in work (part time job, I'm a dirt poor post grad student) where I have to address people politely like that.
  7. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

I read two pages, just now, and I want to say that my gender-dar is off in this forum as it is off in Japanese anime.

Which is to say I have no idea what the heck anyone's gender is unless they explicitly tell me.

    ...

My mental picture of all of you has now been ruined.

    No bananas down there AFAIK.

Unless I've been deceived all along? Eh, my banana is my banana male or female.

EDIT: Or none/all of the above. *thumbs up*

Don't worry; the Light's Glory will come to rescue you.

Just don't ask John or Soli to help you out; it might not end well.
  10. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

WHY DOESN'T DEVIANTART AGREE WITH YOU

EVERYWHERE I GO, EVERYONE INSTANTLY USES SHE

I NEVER STATE MY GENDER ON ANY SITE

    INSTANT FEMALE

HERE? "Oh hey, Ran, what pronouns do you like?" ".... *tearing up* Use whatever you want, just thank you for asking."

I mean, I figure a few assume I'm female, and I'm okay with that. Heck, I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks I am, actually, I've been dying to ask.

    And to follow Eboby's example:

Assigned gender: Shall not disclose for a variety of reasons. Gender identity: Agender. Preferred pronouns: BF gets a free pass to go wild because I love you all. Sexual orientation: Pansexual. Romantic orientation: Aromantic.

I tend to get auto-judged as female because of my liberal usage of female avatars. I know that feel.

This may just be the funniest post in this thread. XD

Assumed male as soon as I saw you first pop up, assumed female once I read a few of your posts, got confused after Felix and stopped trying to assign anything.
  13. Jacquelle Hatoful Pigeon

I knew that about you already, Eboby, but I don't remember how. *scratches head*

Love you too <3 And my policy for " 'They' unless otherwise stated" started after I found out you weren't female like I assumed, so thank you I guess?

Me too! I was like "EH WHAT EBOBY'S NOT - wait I knew that."

I think maybe it came up in the Pokemon Quartz LP? Maybe? I don't know.

There isn't one, as far as I know, and it frustrates me greatly.

    I feel awesome now.

Um... damn guys/girls/guyrls (?), I'm really sorry if I've ever offended any of you with juggling pronouns. I wouldn't have thought of asking either because since I am not used to being around people who don't identify with male/female I just assume things.

I'm learning, though, mostly thanks to y'all! And if I slip up, just slap me over the head and correct me, please.
  17. Ravenholme Already Beat BF's New Expansion

That's what I thought. I'm fully expecting my bestie to turn up to work at one point just to watch me squirm (We've had this discussion before)

Honestly, it seems everyone here is really chill and relaxed about the whole thing, and not inclined to take offence, so I really wouldn't worry about it. It's not one of those things that you really have reason to think about until... well.. you're exposed to it.

I find it fascinating though, I think it's an awesome move in society in terms of personal freedoms, and it's really interesting to watch how we, as people and a society, cope with these changes that we're bringing about. (I'm a Scientist, so observation and interest in this kind of thing came naturally to me, and I think it's great how barring the usual reactionary elements, people are now mostly moving towards the necessary changes without much opposition. Certainly here in Britain, if people have been paying attention to the news)

I was never quite sure of your gender. Kinda like with Eboby in the beginning, I just never assigned you a gender.
But after a while I started to think that might be male, but never assumed anything.
  20. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Most countries use Gender Neutral pronouns to denote ambiguous gender.
I forget though, does the English language have a gender neutral? I've always thought, and been taught, that it was "it"

    Oh yeah.
Sorry if I've ever replied to someone with a wrong pronoun. I don't think I have, here, but then again, my memory is horrible.
  21. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

HOLY FUCK YES LET'S DO THE FUSION DANCE

This is literally the first time anyone on the Internet has assumed I was male. It's refreshing just on the basis that here, I can talk about shipping and people go "NORMAL REGARDLESS OF GENDER"

Also, Ozzo, for a while, I just never assigned you a gender. I only started vaguely associating you with male because of the slashfics.

I second this. I'm sorry if I ever offended anyone with my pronouns and assumptions.
  23. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

They is gender neutral, but some people will argue it's not "proper" use of the word. But it's way more polite than it, so go with they.

*Creeps in* I tend to try to check everybody's profile first, so that if they do state a gender I can refer to them as that, and if not I just don't really care. I kind of already figured out everybody's "gender" from the start because I lurk so much in every LP and some other sub-forums where it eventually comes up. And you all are lovable anyway, so why bother with the gender?
  25. Jacquelle Hatoful Pigeon

"It" has no gender but is generally only used for objects, so it's considered dehumanizing to call a person "it". "They" is considered a gender-neutral singular pronoun, but some English teachers get their knickers in a knot over it and it can occasionally get confusing.

THE POWER OF SHIPPING SHOULD NOT BE LIMITED BY SILLY THINGS SUCH AS GENDER.
  27. Ravenholme Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Which is a problem, we don't really have a gender neutral pronoun, as "it" is somewhat offensive (No reflection on you, especially if you're not a native speaker. Really, please don't think that I'm singling you out or anything) because it's common use is for things that are not persons, if that makes sense.

And as said, we have no honorifics for people on the LGBTQ spectrum, either.

I kinda wonder how the English language is going to evolve to cope. Look forward to seeing it, really.
  28. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Right, but that always felt weird to me as I was learning the language. They is plural; Randissimo is assumed to be one person. The seven year old me would have been incredibly confused.

    This.
You guys are probably some of the nicest people I've met on the internet, not to mention the funniest. It doesn't matter what gender you are.

...even if I need to reassess my orientation because of this.
  29. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

It will, people will groan, and they'll go along with it anyway with time.

Using "they" can be confusing, but it's better than nothing.
I don't believe that we have any gender neutral pronouns in Portuguese, now that I think about it.
    Any at all.
  31. CuteCat Already Beat BF's New Expansion

... People sometimes ask if I'm a guy.
It always confuses me because what guy goes by "CuteCat" ...?

As for genders, I'm extremely confused by everything you people say. Please forgive me if I mis-type someone's gender.
  32. Yelim Already Beat BF's New Expansion

There's one or two in Korean, I believe.
But that's generally used in a more formal setting. And since Korea as a country is pretty homophobic, we don't have pronouns for LGBTQ spectrum either.
  33. Eboby Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Don't worry, everyone feels that way at least once after meeting me.
  34. Jacquelle Hatoful Pigeon

French doesn't have a gender-neutral pronoun (Doors get a gender! Pencils get a gender! EVERYTHING GETS A GENDER!) and mixed-gender plurals are referred to in the male pronoun, from what I remember from my classes.

Having "they" is definitely better than nothing, I just wish we had a standard one that wasn't confusing as well.

Neither do we in Spanish. We have "el" for him and "ella" for her, but what about the places in between/out of the axis? "Eso" is way too dehumanizing to the point of being insulting. We don't even have a proper "they".

Man, romance languages need to grow the fuck up.

That's romance languages in general. Everything, animate or otherwise has a gender. Water, air, pillows, bananas... even abstract things like love and hate.
  37. Ravenholme Already Beat BF's New Expansion

As a panromantic heterosexual (I think. Certainly despite the panromantic part I've never been sexually attracted to a guy who wasn't nathan fillion), I am happy to say that my temporary inclusion in your harem in the yandere-chan thread caused me no reassesing at all :D

(Also, you guys, you're keeping me from my essay on advocacy in science... this is just so much more interesting right now)
  38. videetcredere Already Beat BF's New Expansion

I'm the sort where I really don't care what pronouns you use to address me. 'She' would be the most correct but 'they' (or even 'he' if you want to) doesn't bother me.

I get told I'm way too laid back about gender issues all the time though, so sorry if that offended anyone?

    Wait... this ISN'T science?
  40. Randissimo Hatoful Pigeon

EVERYTHING HAS A GENDER. I DON'T. Hence I just go "fuck this, female pronouns look prettier in written form".

But yeah, male is the automatic go-to for plural situations. Even if there's a room with 99 women and 1 man, you'll use the plural for them/they in masculine form.
