This is awesome in so many ways. The Republican party's motto for the past 30 years has been "Fuck you, I got mine", and he's angry when they live up to it? Didn't he read the promotional literature they sent him before he joined?

I think my favorite thing about this though is the temper tantrum he throws in the next paragraph:
OK dude. They'll be sorry they ever messed with The King. You'll show 'em. By obstinately not voting for anything ever, you'll totally teach them a lesson. No, you won't come off as a petulant child. No sirree. That's statemanship in action, let me tell you.

To be fair, this is kind of the GOP's thing lately.

You know what would really show them? Voting for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker tomorrow. And finding 16 friends to join you.

We're down to 14 to flip by tomorrow. Some other rep was threatening to not vote for Boehner over this. I don't think they'd flip to Pelosi, but it would be hilarious.

edit: Christie just apparently spent 40 minutes bitching out the House GOP over all this. What the hell, GOP. Why would you do anything this stupid? Did you really think the media was going to chat about the fiscal cliff instead of yall basically ending the session on a contentious note of refusing to do your jobs?

They've gotten so good at not doing their jobs, maybe they just don't notice, anymore?

The House Leadership is in damage control, and trying to bribe King into shutting up:
So they're trying to split the bill up. Presumably to pass some immediate relief for damage control and to shut the complainers up, then throw a shit fit over the $51B in two weeks. I don't think the Speaker expected open revolt over this.

Edit: thinking about this, can they even do this? They can pass a $9B package, but then it would be waiting on the Senate who isn't in session for a bit. They can either pass the $27B the Senate sent down, or fail it.

    Can they do it?

Dude, the GOP platform is now basically "We don't need no stinking government hand outs" and here they are giving out government hand outs for the sole reason of garnering more power so they can stop government hand outs. I think it's safe to say they can do pretty much anything they want as long as they can point to the black guy and scream "HE WANTS YOUR GUNS AND MONEY!!"

No, I was hoping for a serious fracture. Sadly, it seems that he smoothed over his mini revolt by totally promising a show vote for a fraction of the relief funds tomorrow.

I don't think it matters who is Speaker for now. There isn't anyone who can wave a magic wand and bring the House GOP into harmony.

Their extremist strategies have come home to roost and half of them can't do anything sane or they will get primaried by some other lunatic. The other half has enough of a diverse/changing constituency that they can't quite drink the cool aid without jeopardizing their general elections.

I doubt there are any prominent Republicans in the House who want to take the job from Boehner right now.

They should have elected Mitt Romney Speaker. He knows how to get people to work together.

They are already fractured. Remember how much success he had passing Plan B? Yeah. Him keeping the gavel is just a sign that nobody else is quite stupid enough to want the job right now.

Apparently Rep. King was not pissed enough to not vote for the Speaker's reelection. A shame.
