    I don't think it's that simple, though I agree that it would be better to pay them a lot more so they aren't spending any time in the military wondering which big defense player will hire them upon retirement for their real cash-in. All those staff *must* come from military personnel for reasons of security. Four star generals have access to a hell of a lot of information that isn't for general consumption. Their homes are on secured military facilities. Just giving them an extra 200k a year and telling them to hire a housekeeper is going to be a bit problematic.

    Problematic, but not intractable; there's undoubtedly already a system in place for hiring janitors and cooks with security clearances for the various intelligence agencies, for the White House, etc. Just as a CEO's driver needs to be trusted to keep his mouth shut about phone calls he overhears while the CEO is in the car.
