One problem with being a fan of a series that's pretty unknown in the West is the lack of fanart (if you're someone like me who likes looking that stuff up). Apart from fanfiction. But lo and behold, Pixiv exists! And generally has quite a large amount of fanart for said series since, well, it has a bigger fanbase, usually. This isn't always the case, of course, but as a rule of thumb, it usually has considerably more material than English sites like deviantART and the such. However, the problem stands that Pixiv is in Japanese. And even though you can switch the language to English when it comes to creating an account, the tags stay Japanese. Trying to find a specific pairing or character or a series in general can be rather difficult if you don't speak a lick of Japanese, or aren't familiar with what tags are used on the site for that specific pairing/character/series/etc. So what I suggest is that we try and rectify this. Come, everyone, share whatever tags you follow! Because sharing is caring. And I suck at Google search so I never find what I'm looking for. Edit: For anyone wondering, Pixiv is an art hosting site, in the same vein as deviantART, except it's strictly visual art. And it's Japanese.
One option is to use Danbooru (NSFW). The site's in English and has its own rather excellent tagging system. Also: a translation system for images. A lot of stuff from Pixiv gets posted there, along with a bunch of other places. It also has NSFW ads until you put $20 down on a privileged account or find some other way to be promoted, but you can't have everything. There's also a fair amount of NSFW content posted there, so be careful with your search terms if you're somewhere where that could be compromising. Edit: As an example of the tagging and translation systems, I give to you the highest-ranked worksafe image on the site as well as some epic Legend of Zelda fanart. Again, beware the NSFW ads.
Zerochan.net is a good danbooru alternative if you don't want to look at NSFW ads all the frickin' time.
/rolls up sleeves Okay, let's see here... 3 - Persona 3 (also just "P3" or "P3P" for Portable, conveniently enough) 戦国BASARA - Sengoku Basara, for all your crazy over-the-top, my-horse-is-a-motorbike, wooden-feudal-era-Gundam samurai action needs. TIGER&BUNNY - The one tag everyone could figure out on their own but I'm sharing it anyone because this fandom has generated some really epic fanart.
Persona 4 That's really all I follow, though I go on dives for stuff now and again.
If anyone can find me some Kuni No Alice tags, I will never ask for anything else in my life again. That's a lie, but I really will be grateful. Meanwhile, I'm off to browse.
Relatedly, ハム子 is "Hamuko", when you're looking for images of the P3P FeMC. I'm also a pretty big fan of the game Soul Nomad and the World Eaters (Soul Cradle in Japan) and there's some great art on Pixiv. ソウルクレイドル (Soul Cradle) ギグ ("Gig", he's the deuteragonist of the game) ハートの国のアリス (Heart no Kuni no Alice) (Clover no Kuni no Alice) (Joker no Kuni no Alice) ボリス=エレイ (gets you a lot of Boris pics, but the actual tag is Boris = Erei or something. Haven't played the game so I don't know if that means anything).
I love you. And the Name=Surname thing is a stylistic choice on QuinRose's part. Artistic license and the such.
No problem. I can usually find pretty much any tag I want to using wikipedia, google translate, and the "related tags" function on Pixiv.
For anyone who wants to search for Fate/stay night, Fate/extra, Fate/strange fake or Fate/zero fanart, you're in luck! Just type exactly those words into Pixiv, or "fate" if you're even lazier. Unfortunately, many visual novels don't have a lot of fanart. Ever17 (just type that in too) has a decent amount, Remember11 (" ") not so much. My search for fanart of Kai from TM4 (龍光寺 カイ) turned up basically nothing, much to my infinite dismay (I think Miyako 大倉 都子 gets the most fanart).
Sweet! I've been to Pixiv tons of times and it's filled with awesome. I can never properly navigate through the site though but whatever.
About Danbooru: if you install AdBlock the NSFW ads dissapear without having to pay! Installing Adblock with a bunch of filters on each browser I get is so standard to me that I didn't realize how bad their ads were until I surfed the place in Midori before i found its adblock option. TV Tropes article about Pixiv have a long list of links to their tags.
Personally, I don't use AdBlock anymore because it prevents the website from making money, which is kinda important for having the site stay up.
On tumblr, I tend not to reblog art sourced from pixiv, because it's nearly always a repost without the artist's permission and that makes me extremely uncomfortable. It's a shame because there's a lot of Puella Magi art that I would like to have on my blog, but I'm prevented by my own personal morals. As for tags, 魔法少女まどかマギカ or just まどか should get you a decent amount of Puella Magi art. さよなら絶望先生 is Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei (which you should watch, by the way.) (i was going to post the best tag for kodocha but even that only seems to have 5 pages)
