Sorry if I missed this upthread but what are the plans for a Broken Forum and/or Quarter to Three outfit for PS2? My best memories of PS1 are of playing with various folks from the boards.
Qt3 had one going for a while during beta, but I don't know what their plans are for live. I don't remember seeing any outfits set up here during beta.
The Steam install files are up. It's also got a full page ad on the Steam store's front page, so I'd expect massive numbers of players in-world compared to the semi-open beta.
The game's live now, however, the official website died due to load. The game can be downloaded via this link or via Steam - if Steam throws a "no subscription" error at you, restart Steam and it should download fine. EDIT: The forums with official announcements, etc are still up.
Site is back up- dl'ing now. At least for me a few min ago. Sadly I am at work so I can only watch it dl to my computer.
I'm Terran on Connery. I'm not sure why I picked that faction, but it seems like I had a good reason. Speced into AMS first, not sure where I'll go next because I like different parts of the classes.
Logged in for a few minutes this evening and after waiting for the login queue (and seeing the Premium Members ad) drop-podded right into the tip of an NC zerg on Amerish. Game was a lot smoother running than I remember in beta, and I guess they've either somewhat nerfed Inflitrators or the Vanu ones I ran into were dumb, 'cause the ones the group around me ran into got whacked pretty quickly. I'll have more time to play tomorrow, but it's ticking the boxes for me so far.
Since there has been no picking up of the torch on a BF outfit, I am going to suggest that we go ahead and create one. I don't care which server but my preference for faction is Vanu or New Conglomerate. Greg, if you are in the game, pick a server and a faction and lets create an outfit :o. Damn the lazybones here.
I'm downloading now, will join up with you guys wherever you wind up. And I too prefer purple (or, at least, preferred it in PS1).
Alright, in this cosmos of slackers, the first to speak up wins: purple it is. Whoever gets a chance to get on and pick a server, let's go Vanu. I am also downloading and will try to log on tomorrow a.m.
Undoubtedly already posted, but here's the tutorial vids to watch while you download: http://www.planetside2.com/game-tutorials ...given the budget of the game, you'd think they'd find someone at least as good as, say, Jon Rowe to do the voiceovers for 'em, jesus.
Outfit created! Outfit name: (goddammit UC) Edit: Argh, deleting my guy and creating one on Waterson.
Ugh... Vanu. I would have started an outfit, but I'm having some serious technical problems with the game. I'm getting serious graphical glitches when I play that look something like this: This makes the game unplayable. I tried posting in the tech support forum on the official boards, but the only response I've gotten is from one other guy having the same issue. I tried updating my video drivers to the new beta ones that Nvidia just released--they are supposed to improve Plantside 2 performance, though I'll say that my framerates seem to be fine, graphical corruption aside. Didn't help with my problem, though. All other games on my PC are working fine, so this issue is limited to Planetside 2. :(
Headed out for the Giving of Thanks, but I'll be back Friday and I'll roll some Purple Dank. Pew Pew.
I liked what I saw of this yesterday, although still not fully convinced of whether the shop is going to turn it into Pay2Win. I liked that you can start out with all of the basic loadouts right away, and that it's pretty easy to grab a vehicle too. The Sundere'd AMS is a nifty touch. Questions. How do I earn the points for deployment? I noticed I seem to have 3 pools, I'm guessing one for MAXes, one for air, one for ground but how do those get accumulated? I could only spawn a Sunderer and ATV at one place, and a Lightning at another. Are those separate now somehow? I take it I need to unlock certs to spawn more vehicles? I guess that only leaves the tank, really. Hm. They took out the MAX autorun AND jets? Or, wait, are those unlocks? The huge fights I've been in were pretty awesome. Seeing single dudes roll up in an ATV and try to capture a deserted base was pretty familiar too. :P The zerg moving post-cap to the next base is a glorious sight still - I almost shed a tear. I'll be joining up on Genudine tonight.
Protip: there's a link in the launcher for "tutorials," which takes you to a bunch of official tutorial videos for various aspects of the game. The guy narrating them is a little annoying, but there is a ton of detailed info there on how the game works.
Grisha and Talisker18 both have invite capability, so between the 3 of us we should be able to get people in. I don't think anyone;'s going to be online until later. I'm working from home today so I'll actually probably be online right at 5pm pacific
I'm out if town for the weekend, so I won't be on until next week. Assuming I can figure out a solution to my technical problems. Otherwise, I might not be on at all.
I expect I'll be on tonight and into the wee hours, if it continues as entertaining as it was last night.
Correct, though the Infantry pool can be used to buy consumables such as medikits, grenades, mines, etc in addition to MAXes. You automatically earn the resources over time by being logged in and active, amount depending on what the territories your faction controls on your current continent, and also gain extra of the type specific to the territory you're fighting in each time you gain experience. IIRC there's currently two types of ground vehicle terminals - one provides Flashes and Sunderers, the other additionally Lightnings and main battle tanks. The main battle tanks are only available either at the warp gate, or if your faction controls a Tech Plant that's connected to the territory the terminal is in via controlled map hexes. None of the vehicles require certifications to use, anyone with enough resources can spawn any of them. If, with "autorun", you're referring to the Charge (rapid movement) ability, apparently it's now unlocked and equipped for everyone by default. I took a glance at the unlockable MAX abilities but I don't remember whether jumpjets were included.
Autorun let you put the MAX in a weapons-locked, high-inertia, high-speed mode indefinitely. There was a spool-up and a spool-down so you couldn't just engage willy-nilly but it was great for crossing terrain w/o having to resuit. The speed was enhh maybe 75% that of ATVs? Fast, anyway. All MAXes had this. Only ability I was able to find on my MAX yesterday was a brief sprint. Not the same. :) Thanks for the answers!
Yeah, there's no run mode like in PS1. They can sprint like infantry, but it's not especially fast. The MAXes also don't have the empire-specific powers any more (at least not yet). They sort of gave them to the MBTs.
