So, as one of those Federal employees, allow me to point out that I spent my holiday making a special breakfast for my kids (who were off school), taking them on tour of a locally owned chocolate factory, buying an assload of chocolates from the gift shop, stopping off for hot drinks at a locally owned coffee shop, and generally hanging out with my family.

Basically, strengthening a traditional family unit and supporting locally owned small businesses. I suppose I could have made it a bit more Republican if I had slapped some birth control out of a Hispanic woman's hand, but it was cold outside.

Dude, we know there's a squirrel appreciation day, it's the same day as MLK Day. And, every year, he plans out two weeks in advance to mention niether (the same guy that makes holiday cartoons for Christmas, and Veterans Day, and Memorial Day among others) and then, two weeks in advance, plans the next day's comic about some imaginary writer complaining about him not acknowledging the previous day's holiday ;), which was Squirrel Appreciation Day ;), and mentioning how he's sick of the rodent community ;), picking on him for not acknowledging it.

It's Mallard Fillmore. The comic that claims racism no longer exists, that the duck got his job through Affirmative Action (a topic that he complains about constantly) and once drew Jon Stewart as a hook-nose pedophile among many, many other things. It's hardly a cuckoo-crazy theory.

Actually, Squirrel appreciation day is the 21st annually, it's not a "specific Monday," and that's actually what tips me off about the 2012 version being explicitly about MLK jr day - Because he used (observed), which indicates a holiday that is based on a day of the month rather than a date of the month, like Squirrel day is, it's clearly a shot at MLK day.
