It would probably be an Apple-branded peripheral device that plugs into all "i" products. The app that came with it would tell what strain of marijuana you were smoking and how high it would get you in Cheech and Chong voices.

Okay, the copy and paste on her poses is starting to get to me. Also, the completely strange art style of putting solid lines around some things but not others. Her pants and her shirt were drawn in two entirely different styles imo. Or more specifically her pants have an odd detailed aspect the rest of her completely lacks.

I think the point is that like the other things in the matrixy green are part of the tropes that are a direct product of or strongly influenced by a patriarchal system. Some of them are misogynistic, some are sexist, some are defense mechanisms, some are all kinds of other things, but not all of the subcategories are interchangeable. So woman that is older, single, and has cats often becomes a caricature simply for falling outside of the traditional mode of being attached to a man, and women are raised to fear that fate and ridicule it. By this theory, many "crazy cat lady" stories do have legitimately sad components, but they are often taken on their own as a choice by her or a product of mental illness rather than considered in the big picture of what someone in her position had as options or what parts of it are really an outsiders' to judge.

I don't get it. Why are Obama and the elephant, a symbol for the Republican party, standing on the edge of this ravine? If only that crag edge were labeled in some way. I mean, I see Obama pushing the Republican party over, but why? What does it mean for them to be standing at the edge of this gorge?

That Matrix comic about feminism is the VGCats of political cartoons. Because why make your point when you can draw it out for 20 panels?

I haven't read Sinfest in like ten years. I think I'm okay with that decision.

And yet it's still better craftsmanship than most political cartoons.

I'm not sure I can have a retrospective until someone damns him with the faintest praise that I can wildly blow out of proportion and have a violent heart attack over while hurling cartoons at them...I don't make the rules but I think that's how it works?

I think he's the worst too. He has no idea he's a backwards bigot who hides behind the Bible and he draws perfectly acceptable things that we are just expected to go "Noooooooo!!!" over. Two men hugging, not monsters, not caricatures, just two, normal, healthy men we are just supposed to know are horrible terrible hellbound monsters because they exist. Just a hate filled person.

Just seeing that Asay comic made my day measurably worse. I was in a good mood when I started reading this fucking thread.

The 'drawing it out' is more of a weekly feature for sinfest -- these full page comics are used for mini stories which flesh out characters/universe elements introduced in regular 3-4 panel strips, and to provide some coloured eye candy. (plus some The basic point was already made in concise form, earlier.

Also: dress codes and the phrase "I love you." You're on notice, colluders! But mainly it just smacks of someone being oh-so-clever. And as Adam B says, so long! I'm surprised they didn't just go all in and make it into a feature film trilogy just like the real Matrix.

Yeah, Sinfest is a weird one because while it seems like Ishida is constantly spinning his wheels and doing the same thing over and over again, he HAS also recently added some new characters and fundamentally changed a few old ones. The Patriarchy thing is one example, and you can see where he took a hard feminist turn a while back. He even pokes fun at himself over it (like here and here). Plus Little E got amnesia, Fusia turned good(ish), 'Nique ditched the vamp act, etc.

Still, I think he just seizes on one concept and then spins and teases it out until it has lost all its flavor. I read it mostly in one or two week batches now for that reason. It's never LOL funny, but it's often clever and I really love his art. The big, color Sunday strips are usually my favorite, too, because I think he does well communicating big ideas in mostly wordless panels.

It's not so much that he took a 'feminist' turn as it is that he uncritically accepted anything and everything second wave feminism had to offer, which includes a lot of toxic shit. Even to the extent of turning his misogynistic pig into a strawman for third wave feminism, to have an excuse to beat it up.

Squigly was ALWAYS a straw man (pig) for feminism. So was Slick in a lot of ways. I guess the difference is that now he's actually beating on them.
