Because once legalized there would be Apple Inc.bongs for $249 everyone would go crazy for.
oh, you mean iPots.
I feel...I feel like you should be punished for this in some way...
It would probably be an Apple-branded peripheral device that plugs into all "i" products. The app that came with it would tell what strain of marijuana you were smoking and how high it would get you in Cheech and Chong voices.
The off-brand ripoffs would be Sean Penn's character from Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Bill and Ted.
Would it offer to create terrible playlists based on your weed selection if you enable Genius?
I don't think it would be called Genius.
The new iToke ecosystem ties together all your iDevices to support your new lifestyle.
Didn't they just move into that house like last week? She's either a terrible gardener or the best gardener, because it takes way longer for carrots to come up than that. I'm going with "terrible," because she also is apparently trying to pick carrots out of a plot of what is clearly kale.
Okay, the copy and paste on her poses is starting to get to me. Also, the completely strange art style of putting solid lines around some things but not others. Her pants and her shirt were drawn in two entirely different styles imo. Or more specifically her pants have an odd detailed aspect the rest of her completely lacks.
Short form: fuck you Day by Day, and not even for your content this time!
I can't tell what's going on in that strip. Who is talking to whom? Where are the characters in relation to each other? Why is the husband character even in the scene?
You're keeping track of this? What kind of demented monster are you?
And go to hell for making me look at her face again. She has no eyes.
And my God, why does she plant a pot in the garden and then look down at it mournfully as though her pet canary is buried in it?
Performance art -- a good cartoon.
I noticed that too. I think she's harvesting into a flower pot, which is... no, not something you would ever do.
Just remember the 40/50something white guy is DBD's Mary Sue insert so if a pair of boobs with a weird face is calling someone "babe" or "baby" it's totally him, every time.
Also THIS GUY in that pot comic is the best, because over-friendly drug dealers are a thing. I know this because
This isn't completely fair. The boobs he draws are weird too.
Don't worry; she'll be feeding him plenty of cheesecake later.
What the smiley for "rimshot"?
See I disagree. I think Obama's offer is fair, he's not "pushing" anyone
The little sad snowman!!
I don't give a fig aboot hockey but one of you may.
I HATE this guy's art style
The debt ceiling is right above the fiscal cliff??? Also what does the tree represent?
Those are some fucking specific stick arms
No, no they were not.
Although I can see why Wise is standing up for shitty comics.
I have no idea what this is referring to
Except that maybe Tinsley has FINALLY caught on that "pity the poor millionaires" isn't the most popular opinion.
What??? Why would you even have an award for that???
I do not believe "crazy cat lady" is misogynist
Right. Because the GOP's wish to crush the underclass and create a permanent society based around "haves and have-nots" isn't about money.
Also the only reason the "Dems" stick up for unions is for campaign donations. Funny how Dems only do things for money and votes and the GOP does things...well...ummm...are too righteous to pander to those groups! *whew*
So...Chris Mathews is dumb because he watches FOX News? But if he's dumb he's wrong about FOX News, meaning he's not dumb. But if he's right he's dumb, which means he's wrong and smart, which means he's right and dumb, but if he's dumb he's right, which means he's smart and dumb, which means he's wrong and smart...
"Crazy cat lady" is pretty gender-specific. So maybe not full-blown misogynist, but it is Yet Another Stereotype for ladies.
BEST FIND A MAN, LADIES, OR YOU'LL WIND UP A LOVELESS SPINSTER WITH THIRTY NINE CATS TO FILL THAT VOID IN YOUR HEART
I think the point is that like the other things in the matrixy green are part of the tropes that are a direct product of or strongly influenced by a patriarchal system. Some of them are misogynistic, some are sexist, some are defense mechanisms, some are all kinds of other things, but not all of the subcategories are interchangeable. So woman that is older, single, and has cats often becomes a caricature simply for falling outside of the traditional mode of being attached to a man, and women are raised to fear that fate and ridicule it. By this theory, many "crazy cat lady" stories do have legitimately sad components, but they are often taken on their own as a choice by her or a product of mental illness rather than considered in the big picture of what someone in her position had as options or what parts of it are really an outsiders' to judge.
I don't get it. Why are Obama and the elephant, a symbol for the Republican party, standing on the edge of this ravine? If only that crag edge were labeled in some way. I mean, I see Obama pushing the Republican party over, but why? What does it mean for them to be standing at the edge of this gorge?
Man. I'm just lost on this one.
"Chicken & Rice" not race baiting TOO much are you McCoy?
And "dropping the ball Benghazi"
And finally, yet again:
Even Ramirez get this. I mean he gets the words and meaning wrong but he understands the situation better than you and he's been looking through a veil of tears for weeks!.
God. Who else would be such a willfully ignorant dense fu
I was thinking of punishing the pot puns with an Asay retrospective. I'll put up a paypal link to get me to not.
Ok? Ummm...is there more? Just kinda...ok...nice try?
I 'on' even care: dinosaurs!!
Bennett remains a treasure
What is this even trying to say?
His name is RICH UNCLE PENNYBAGS!
Ah, I never even thought of it that way, I stand corrected.
Transexuals are just perverts trying to get into (other gender's) places
Yes, thank you. I just can't wrap my head around someone drawing that: a static character on a blank white background with words, sitting back, and thinking to himself "Perfect! Take THAT Obama/Starbucks/taxes/news...papers?/most Americans?" and then passing it on to their syndicate who says "YES! Fast track this one! Don't you DARE change a thing!!" and then a newspaper editor who shuffles through the week's selection of political cartoons and stop on that and jumps up yelling "EUREKA!! Dear God in Heaven stop the presses!!"
If I put that little work into my job I'd have my ass kicked then I'd be fired.
Fine upstanding citizens look on aghast as a strong-jawed crossdressing pervert prepares to molest at least one child now that he has access to the women's bathroom. Go fuck your fucking self, Asay. I think I hate him worse than any of the other ones. I've said it before, if he's still published by any newspaper they should drop him immediately.
Additionally: this comic is from 2008! Why would you subject me to it now,
Otterloop? You jerk :(. Anyway I don't want to see an Asay retrospective, but I am genuinely curious as to whether or not he's done one even worse than this. Because this one is pretty god damned bad.
That Matrix comic about feminism is the VGCats of political cartoons. Because why make your point when you can draw it out for 20 panels?
I haven't read Sinfest in like ten years. I think I'm okay with that decision.
And yet it's still better craftsmanship than most political cartoons.
Cross-posted to Facebook because my wacky conservative family/friends will not be able to withstand the awesome.
You better share the comments you get.
I'm not sure I can have a retrospective until someone damns him with the faintest praise that I can wildly blow out of proportion and have a violent heart attack over while hurling cartoons at them...I don't make the rules but I think that's how it works?I think he's the worst too. He has no idea he's a backwards bigot who hides behind the Bible and he draws perfectly acceptable things that we are just expected to go "Noooooooo!!!" over. Two men hugging, not monsters, not caricatures, just two, normal, healthy men we are just supposed to know are horrible terrible hellbound monsters because they exist. Just a hate filled person.
Just seeing that Asay comic made my day measurably worse. I was in a good mood when I started reading this fucking thread.
She has mistaken hemlock or water hemlock for carrots, and there will be much rejoicing.
The 'drawing it out' is more of a weekly feature for sinfest -- these full page comics are used for mini stories which flesh out characters/universe elements introduced in regular 3-4 panel strips, and to provide some coloured eye candy. (plus some The basic point was already made in concise form, earlier.
Also: dress codes and the phrase "I love you." You're on notice, colluders! But mainly it just smacks of someone being oh-so-clever. And as
Adam B says, so long! I'm surprised they didn't just go all in and make it into a feature film trilogy just like the real Matrix.
Yeah, Sinfest is a weird one because while it seems like Ishida is constantly spinning his wheels and doing the same thing over and over again, he HAS also recently added some new characters and fundamentally changed a few old ones. The Patriarchy thing is one example, and you can see where he took a hard feminist turn a while back. He even pokes fun at himself over it (like here and here). Plus Little E got amnesia, Fusia turned good(ish), 'Nique ditched the vamp act, etc.
Still, I think he just seizes on one concept and then spins and teases it out until it has lost all its flavor. I read it mostly in one or two week batches now for that reason. It's never LOL funny, but it's often clever and I really love his art. The big, color Sunday strips are usually my favorite, too, because I think he does well communicating big ideas in mostly wordless panels.
It's not so much that he took a 'feminist' turn as it is that he uncritically accepted anything and everything second wave feminism had to offer, which includes a lot of toxic shit. Even to the extent of turning his misogynistic pig into a strawman for third wave feminism, to have an excuse to beat it up.
Squigly was ALWAYS a straw man (pig) for feminism. So was Slick in a lot of ways. I guess the difference is that now he's actually beating on them.
