I didn't know anything about Satie before today. I listened to GymnopéDie No. 1 . It is pretty amazing how the music completely changes the mood of the video.
It's not just for life! It's for Christmas! We were going to call him Arthur, as we have Zaphod (Gary was meant to be Trillian), but we went with Manny as Zaphod will surely be his Bernard. He's a ten week old Daniff (Great Dane x Mastiff). The cats are not impressed.
Yo, I got some cats. I'm also going to go out of town for as many days as five around Christmas. That's more days than I am entirely comfortable leaving them on their own. So the suggestion has been made that I should consider bringing them with me to the house where Christmas will be at, where there are no cats right now but there would be cats for the time that I am there, after which there will be some cats until I go away. Is this a terrible idea or just very bad? Also, what should I plan on going wrong?
Looking through this thread makes me miss having a cat around the house. Sadly we can't have pets at our apartment (it's a rental, and is rather tiny), but here are the cats I used to live with. I'm a terrible photographer, sorry. This is Sox: Yeah, he's asleep. Must be nice and warm on my computer. He seems to love being cradled like a baby, especially by my boyfriend (I cropped out his face but you can still see his beard XD). He's a very cuddly cat and loves pats and attention, but he's terrified of small children (which is understandable, I suppose). And this is Mugly (I didn't name them, don't ask me) She's more timid, but once she's attached to you she'll constantly try to climb up and sit on your shoulders. And then purr and drool on your hair.
They might fight each other. And they might act weird because they're not used to the house (cats generally don't like change). It might be better if you could get someone to babysit them. If not, you may have to separate the 'stranger cats' from your cats (ie. give them different rooms)
My god, he's huge! They do look pretty similar in colouring though. Does Gary also enjoy being cradled like that?
He's fine with me doing it, but anyone else and I get the wide-eyed "Don't just sit there, help me you bastard!" look. The back legs had already started kicking.
Five days is not an unreasonable amount of time for cats to be alone, IMHO. I've gone as long as six or seven days, actually. Clean the litter box, leave out a giant pan of food and another of water and leave the toilet seat up and you should be fine unless the cats have some special needs or issues.
Dusty, in repose (note the tactical placement of feet, aim of rear end towards my wife's pillow) Joey, all argyled up for the winter. This isn't really the topic of the thread, but I figured this was its target audience.
It's snowing over here, and that means it's cold enough for my pup, Dagger, to don her new winter coat Also, have some normal pics of my two fuzzballs. Faelan, the older, manly dog: And Dagger! The excitable puppy: She has Orc Teeth.
That is a badass cat. I'm not a cat person, but I might make an exception if it looked like that and could play the guitar.
Really depends on the cats! Worst case scenario, they hate each other, fight the whole time, and get in a pee war. Unless you mean the only cats there will be your cats! In which case they'll probably just be a little freaked out by ZOMG CHANGE and annoy you by piteous mewling during the drive.
Just mine. At this point, I think I've reconciled myself to the inevitability that this must happen, so I'll get them their outside cat shots (there are a couple of strays that hang around my mother's house) and cart them up there with me and we'll see what happens. I'm pretty sure the one will be just fine, because he's a giant slut who just wants attention. The other might spend the entire span living under a bed, but I guess as long as he's eating his foot and depositing his excretions in the appropriate container it's fine.
When I was growing up, I had a cat that had to have a back leg amputated due to an injury (she got stuck in a fence.) She lived for many years post operation. The thing that was pretty hilarious was that if you scratched her ear on the amputated side, she would wiggle her stump like she was scratching with an invisible limb.
My parents have a three-legged cat. One night one of my sister-in-law's elderly clients heard a bunch of noise outside of her house, so she went out to see what was going on. A raccoon was fighting a kitten and had bitten off one of its hind legs. The woman scared the raccoon away with a broom, then brought the kitten into her house and bandaged it up. She didn't want to take care of it long-term, so she offered it to my sister-in-law, who gave it to my parents. That was five or six years ago. Stumpy (not his real name) is pretty feisty and gets around fine, but he did have a lot of trouble judging jump distances for awhile. Knew I had a picture in emails somewhere, here he is:
Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the "post a pic of yourself" thread, but then I figured more people would be interested in my dog, Ezio. Especially since we were taking out the Christmas decorations.
So I got some baskets to fill with preserves for family presents this Christmas, but Charlie came up with a much better use for them.
I want a marmalade cat so bad! soooooo cute also a calico and a solid black one, and a white one, and a kitler, and a brown one, and a siamese pointed one, and a bengal,
I want an orange one and a Maine Coon and a Scottish Fold. I live with a basement cat, a tortie, a Bengal and a Siamese. I need to complete the set!
New dog acquired. Though I'm doing the heinous crime of not posting a pic of him yet. My wife has been a petfinder fiend, even after the experience of getting our foster, which didn't work out so well, and temporarily taking on one of her coworker's 'alaskan eskimo huskies' (AKA husky mutt from what I can tell on the internets) That last one was a possible disaster in the making, as the coworker had never had a dog before, and had never trained it or taken any training classes. So I was glad to see him go quickly out of our lives, as he was a trainwreck waiting to happen. Anyway, the new boy, we were initially told he was one year old, and a pitbull - bulldog mix. After getting to meet him in person, we were told he was most likely four years old, and he roughly looked like some sort of AmStaff mix, possibly bulldog since he's smaller than an AmStaff. He's a very, very mellow guy, even though he's not neutered, and pretty happy, low energy dog. We got to waive the adoption fee, since he's 'special needs', in that he's got some sort of leg injury, and can't jump, and can only run in short bursts, and he seems to have a tough time with stairs. But our current lifestyle, it's not so bad, other than my wife can't lift him into the car or onto the couch. We'll invest in a ramp pretty soon i think. When we took him to the vet, they couldn't see anything overly wrong with his legs, but he has to be put under for the neutering so we are planning to x-ray him then to learn more. The vet also put his age closer to six or seven. So yeah, went from a one year old to a seven year old dog. So far, he's been a breeze at home, even though he's a muscular guy, he doesn't pull much, which could be due to the leg, and doesn't have any aggression issues, or dominance, and he's not a big humper, and we haven't heard him bark yet. He only seems to know sit, so we'll need to work on the rest of the basic commands, like 'leave it', but he's pretty responsive to corrections and listens well. Oh, and his name: Chunk.
I kind of think this is fairly common. Every dog we looked at was "about 1 year old" more because people want a young dog. Our dog was "about 1" until we got her to our vet, who told us that she was more likely 3 or 4 because she'd had at least one litter, maybe more.
Ok, for the likes, here is Chunk, bumming it on the couch, if someone approaches him, only his tail moves, making a whup-whup-whup noise against the couch. EDIT: Oh skydrive, why are you so terrible? I'm not sure what Athryn did last time to get it to work. I need to resize the thing anyway, the Lumia 920 has a fairly crazy resolution, so it wouldn't let me just upload it. Let's see... Here's my cat Smokey (Named by my neighbor's 9 year old) Here's my little mini, found on the side of a highway and taken to a rescue. Her name is Alexandria..(I don't know why it's sideways... sorry about that)
Buddy, on the left, we got from the humane society this summer. He's about five. Annie I've had since she was a puppy, and she's 11. A less flattering pose: Bonus - extreme pug close-up:
