This has to be bullshit, right? Anytime I see a company with some AMAZING THING that can only be demonstrated to TOP SEKRIT KLEERENCE, the odor of poo immediately wafts to my nose.
Apparently this was revealed (hah) over a year ago. This bit from the first link is important, though: Also, it's worth noting that the company behind Quantum Stealth (which, it should be noted, seems to be merely a brand name) is a decently-sized producer of regular camouflage, so presumably they're not entirely full of shit. Edit: Guy Cramer, the guy behind HyperStealth, says that the media has distorted some of the details of the story.
What I've read about this kind of thing is that it's very unidirectional. If you looked at this stuff from 45 degrees to the left it would look like somebody holding a blanket or whatever.
You can't really be in the business of distortion and then complain that other people are using distortion.
I'd love to know how they're managing to have both cameras and screens stacked on all sides of the fabric without leaving visible artifacts - and how (or if) they've managed to overcome the issues of refresh and perspective that make these kinds of experimental optical camo look like someone holding up a funhouse mirror when a moving object passes behind the field of the camo. Something tells me that they haven't, however.
From what they've said it sounds like they're using some material that does fancy stuff with the light, rather than electronics. Or faking it, y'know, whatever.
What, they're claiming that they've fabricated a material that actually bends light? That's a pretty big fucking claim. It's hard for me to believe that this wouldn't be front page news everywhere, if someone had actually cracked optical invisibility.
It's fake. You are stupid for believing there's a possibility it's real when the claim is presented sans proof.
