The surgeon I'm seeing at Stanford is one of the best in the world at what he does. I'm not terribly disappointed in the wait, just anxious about the family politics bullshit cropping up in the meantime.

And sinnick - thanks. Honestly, I'm not reeling; we had at least the first part figured out almost two weeks ago. I'm just incredibly relieved that somebody's finally doing something about it.

I think I made myself sick with asparagus and milk today.

On the one hand, I really like both those things.

On the other I probably shouldn't have devoured them like a starving pigbeast, or in such horrible quantities.

    I need pepto chalkmal.

After 12 years I'm about to re-join the ranks of corporate whoredom.

It was a long protracted negotiation in the end; I'd assumed they'd make me an offer that'd turn my head to begin with, I had to almost beat a half decent offer out of them in the end.

The initial meeting was fun, it basically amounted to "we'd like to cut your earnings by 50%, when can you start?" followed by a hurt look when I told them what I wanted.

If I said it's for a bank, there is a good staff mortgage and I'm about 6 months away from having enough money to buy the house then I hope [current] fellow contractors/consultants wont hate me too much for taking the queen's shilling.

Bad idea: reading a gynecologic textbook before going to bed. Too much dreaming about strangely colored bulging ovaries. <shudder>

My dad is a nephrologist. For those of you who don't speak doctor, that means he's a kidney doctor. When I was younger, he used to take me in to work sometimes for various reasons. Occasionally he'd put me in the dialysis unit's library. It is in this library that I found the most terrifying non-spider thing I have ever seen: a gargantuan tome, easily fourteen inches tall, eight wide, six deep, entitled
    Diseases of the Kidney
    Volume II
And there were more than two volumes.

The way I look bugs me. My face is too soft to look male, so I look sort of asexual (at least, to me I look that way). Or maybe like a lesbian who's toward the butch end of the spectrum. I'm not happy about it, either way, and I don't know what to do about it. As I lose weight my face gets more angular and it's easier to pass as male, but right now I feel like a fat ugly boring-looking person.

(I am absolutely NOT trolling for compliments. It was just a random rant.)

Firstly, perish the thought because no. Secondly, I could not see you doing that anyway. Thirdly, I find you attractive.
Fourthly, sorry for not adding anything to that really and uh, I hope you don't mind that confession? @___@ Sorry.

Fifthly, @Broken Forum can I say that sort of thing or am I crossing a line here..? I depend on you for social guidance.
Sixthly, ah right and that reminds me that i'm crushing on quite a few of our females. Aiyah.

Haircut can make a huge difference in the, uh, gender-shape? of a face. Just a thought? I dunno. I don't have a particularly feminine face, but the first thing people see is the hair.

In my gender-fuckery news, my mother saw that I had painted my nails. All she said was to clean them off for Christmas day when we see family. Which is fine because I couldn't be fucked dealing with them getting excited about things (even though most of them would be excited in a good way.) Walking into the gathering of family for Christmas is a never ending assault of shrieks of, "Oh you look WOOOONDERFUUULLL!" Which is enough to debilitate anyone with even the slightest hint of a misanthropic personality.

1080p usually refers to 1920x1080, does it not?

Christmas eve is not that big of a deal in The Netherlands, but my parents wanted to go to a movie with the family. There wasn't really anything that matched the criteria (no kids' movie, nobody'd seen it yet, not too depressing) so my mom and dad decided to go to Skyfall without me and my brother. At first I felt pathetic for spending Christmas eve alone, but I just bought The Hive by Charles Burns. I'm going to crash on the couch with that and some chips, and I'm going to be a happy camper for the night! At one point I might raid the liquor cabinet and ask you guys what combinations will be the best.

    1) get a large tumbler
    2) open every bottle
    3) pour a splash from every bottle into tumbler
    4) if there's any room left in tumbler, top off with fruit juice
    5) drink as fast as you can, because it's probably gonna taste horrible
    6) Merry Christmas!

Then I will be giving myself the best Christmas present ever, that cabinet contains: Baileys, port wine, some cognac, rum, whiskey and I'm pretty sure there's some vodka in the fridge. The Baileys/port combo will make it very interesting, very interesting indeed...

Ooh, I just had the best idea ever, vodka chocolate milk! I could even add some Baileys for shiggles.

A bit of pointless trivia: one of my university's biggest claim to fame is that it played a large part of inventing Bailey's. I think their food department helped develop the enzyme that let the cream and alcohol mix.

Also, they have a post-grad course in brewing beer that's as secret as their lab where they breed mice for experiments. I think they have an issue with eco-terrorists getting boozed up and freeing mices. Surprisingly, the nuclear material stored in a basement isn't secret at all.

On Saturday, my wife bought the exact same dress I had already gotten her for Christmas. It's already under the tree, so thoughts on something small (probably under $50) I can get today to supplement it? Don't really want to do cosmetics, perfume, or jewelry. Don't really like the idea of gift cards in general, but maybe. Could do flowers. Thoughts?
