I saw "Safe House" this weekend, and although the story is totally pedestrian CIA intrigue stuff, I have to give it a solid thumbs-up because of the well-done action sequences. It's like the first Bourne Identity: super-realistic and without a lot of shaky-cam. Sudden, shocking bouts of violence that often come out of nowhere. Really viscerally done. Denzel Washington is a badass as always, and even Ryan Reynolds (who I usually hate) manages to hold his own. Add in some great supporting players for the "Meanwhile, back at headquarters" segments, and you've got enough to get you through the shitty parts of the script that are basically all the times people are talking. Enough to get you to the action parts, which really are pretty amazing. It looks like it was all shot on location around the world, too. Worth seeing in the theater.
You mistakenly watched the wrong film. Go watch the much more fun Safe House staring Patrick Stewart.
It does allow me to tell you, though, for those who are thinking about watching it, that nine months after you see "Safe House" you can barely remember anything about it.
