    [MOD CLARIFICATION PLEASE]

Final thing before I hit bed. If John is the monster then he can't Judge. What happens in the case of a tie then? If it is a no lynch we can use this to test if John has been taken. This will also allow us one more day to Lynch.

Depending on what the MOD says about the above; If we vote 2 for John and two for someone else (me I guess), if John can judge then he can choose the someone else, and if he cannot then we get a no lynch. One of us die tonight, then the others can lynch John. Ideally, considering my options above about who it could be I would say John and Aaron but I don't think this is a goer, so choose me. If John is safe, you take me out (and we lose I guess, but it protects you from the possibility of me being a monster) and if John is a monster then we get a No Lynch and you can lynch him tomorrow. Obviously, if Aaron is an artful liar then we are still dead.

Well OK. We hit a no lynch. I need to hear from someone before we can end this day though. I am headed out again in a little while so hopefully I hear from him before I have to go.

Sorry I didn't get on in time to vote. My Sunday D&D session ended up being followed up by a trip to the hospital.

Oh, I phrased that wrong. My Grandmother's recovering from a broken hip, but she's okay, it wasn't an emergency or anything, just a sudden decision to go in to see her that didn't leave me much time before we left.

Well, the good fuckin' news is, you get to vote anyway, don't you. ;)

The sun was setting after the last night in the Enchanted Arms. Two figures walked toward it, Aaron and Jordan, the lone survivors of the horrible bloodbath that befell the apartment building. Jordan looked toward the sunset, smiling broadly, the sunlight setting off a glint in his eye. Aaron also looked pleased. As he walked he thought back on the final night at that cursed residence.

    --Earlier--

The final lynch had ended without any clear resolution. All the surviving members of the complex sighed in exasperation realizing that quite likely it would be up to the judge to set things straight. John coughed uncomfortably, thinking back to his prior hit and miss on KWhit who had turned out to be only a nurse. He felt a pang of guilt as he looked toward his fellow tenants. Gulping, he simply pointed a finger at Gryff who looked surprised as hell at being accused of being the monster.

"WHAT?" Gryff replied with a start, "Are you kidding me? I kind of HOPED to be taken on as the monster, I sure as hell would have done an awesome job at it! I'm NOT the freaking monster. Are you sure you don't want to reconsider?"

John shook his head, "Every monster tried to say they weren't a monster when it came to be their time. I have to trust you're doing the same. I have to stick to my guns here, even if they've led me astray in the past."

"Jesus! I didn't think it would end like this. I know this goes without saying, but you are making a huge mistake," Gryff grabbed the Kila Dagger off the coffee table and handed it to John. "There is nothing I can do now, I guess. Let's just get this over with."

Even though Gryff put on a brave face, he still looked terrified as he pulled his shirt open and faced John. "Just get this shit over with," Gryff said as John pulled back his arm, unable to think, and plunged the knife into Gryff's chest, killing him instantly.

As Gryff's lifeless corpse hit the floor so did John. John fell to his knees, despondent and unable to speak. Aaron helped him to his feet, "It ain't your fucking fault man! You did the best you could! How could you know!?"

John looked from Aaron to Jordan. As soon as his eyes fell on Jordan he hardened. "It was YOU wasn't it!? It was YOU the whole time! I just know it! You got me good, but now I have you, MONSTER!" John took the dagger from Gryff's chest and leaped toward Jordan. Aaron stepped in just seconds before John could get to Jordan, snapping his neck. John fell to the ground next to where Gryff was again, this time as lifeless as his victim.

Jordan stood in shock before realizing what Aaron had done for him. "Aaron! Thank god you were there to stop him! I kind of thought John might be the monster but my god. I mean, you saved me just in time! I really am a lucky, lucky bastard."

Aaron put his hand on Jordan's back cajoling him, "Fuck yes you are, buddy, now let's get the fuck out of here."

    --Later--

As Aaron and Jordan walked together they both looked truly happy, but if you were to look at where Aaron's hand connected to Jordan's neck you would see a single tentacle connecting them, body to body, mind to mind.

And if you were to listen to Jordan's mind you would hear the screams of a man in a prison of a body he no longer controlled.

Let me be the first to say it:

This game was awesomely fun, and thank you so much, gertrudetherobot, for running it! Even if mistakes were made (and mistakes are always made; the key is to not make mistakes that destroy the game a-la Citadel Station), the game was highly enjoyable and came down to the appropriate, all-cards-on-the-table ending that Mafia games should by right.

Yay thanks! I am sure I will run another game in the future with lessons learned from this one. I hope you guys join up again, it was really fun (if not stressful due to the mistake). :D

But you guys can still talk about what you think. ALSO I open the thread to EVERYONE now to comment if they want.

    This. Always this.
  13. I feel like the only good decision I made in this game was voting to kidnap AaronSofaer over to the dark side. Well-played, Aaron, well-played.

Good investigation by the power roles as well! If not for gertrude making that last-second rule change, I'm pretty sure the monsters would've lost.

Also that ending doesn't make sense because didn't the monsters want to open a hellhole IN the apartment? Why would they be walking away from it? O_O

Behind the pair, the Enchanted Arms fell into an abyss, the road also slowly being sucked into it. The widening hole stretched, releasing all manner of hell beast after it. Aaron grinned, knowing the end of the world was imminent.

But seriously the investigation roles got REALLY lucky a couple of times.

    Also for fun -

    1. Anabanana - Vampire
    2. Ozzo - Dark Acolyte
    3. soundlyParanoid - Doctor
    4. Gryff - Vigilante
    5. Jacquelle - Innocent Child
    6. maniskumquat - Watcher
    7. Matthew Schempp - Werewolf
    8. AaronSofaer - The Monster Hunter Creature
    9. Kat - Witch
    10. jordantigers - Lucky Bastard
    11. KWhit - Nurse
    12. JohnStargazer - Judge
    13. Tome-Chan - Van Helsing

I had fun through the game -- even afterward when gertrude had to behead her own sensei. Oh, what would Hitomi say?

    Two things, though:

soundlyParanoid brought this up on the first page, and I discussed this with Anabanana, as well. With so many distinct individual roles, the townies could simply list off their roles and lynch whoever had conflicts (i.e. two Judges? One's a fake!). Having an unknown number of distinct roles or not assigning as many roles could help prevent this.

Later on, the townies had difficulty finding the last creature primarily because everyone voted the actual monsters out. With Aaron being silenced as well, they basically had a one-day voting record to use to find the new monster. I doubt this will be an issue in future games, but I would recommend not converting townies into monsters so late in the game. This transformation clinched an otherwise townie victory.
  20. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

Mani's Watcher play was clutch. I probably would have called for a vote on Anabanana anyway, but I would not have thought Matthew was the werewolf; I was suspecting Anabanana, Kat, Ozzo (once he latched onto me and wouldn't shut up when I hit him over the head with logic) and Tome-chan, which would have been a dire blunder.

True that. I think if I do another game I will leave the roles up to mystery. I still like having lots of townie roles to give everyone something to do. I just won't list them off.

Also the end of the game likely would have been a townie victory, and with the rule change it made that more difficult for sure. I hope that even though it wasn't a perfect game it was a compelling one though. :D

Next time I run I will use all the lessons I learned here (and likely make a whole new set of mistakes! ;D)
  22. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

    Fully agreed!

But aside from the whole "I still won" thing, that last day was solid Mafia play. I baited jordantiger into trusting me, then had him pick between Gryff and John, and Gryff was inclined to believe me one way or the other because I "cleared" jordantiger. And Gryff knew, but couldn't bear to call for my head anyway. :D

  26. You could use a semi-open setup where you put up a list of roles, but only use some of them in the game itself, so people aren't sure which roles and how many of them are in play.

That's a good idea too. It will likely be a little while before I run again, so I'll do some more research on different set ups.
  28. Ozzo Noticed By Drunken Admin

I'd go with Ana's suggestion. Ruins of Light's Glory, while fun, grew confusing when players have a list of all the available roles and powers, like when Dan Lawrence claimed to be "good" because he was a Prince of the Light (actually a power, not an role).

Anybody planning on running another round soon while gertrudetherobot does her research?
  30. AaronSofaer Magister Mundi Elyscape

I was thinking of running a game set in an MMO, where the players are members of the elite alliance of guilds and the bad guys are goldfarmer moles stealing all of their sekrits and pillaging the Guild Bank.

But I'm too busy to run it right now.

Looking back at page 13, Aaron had me completely fooled. I never thought for a second that he was the creature, and in hindsight, I don't think there was any evidence to point at him anyway.
  39. Your posts about Aaron's definite innocence were absolutely hilarious to read. So glad that we did the "turn him and silence him" strategy. Also, Gryff actually reasoned his way to "Aaron is the monster" right after Kat was lynched, IIRC, so I don't think there was absolutely no evidence.

EDIT: Scratch that, it was the day after he was turned. Here.
