Sorry for the long break! Things got crazy and I had to choose which LPs to update during my sparse free time.

I like to picture Nosy chocking back laughter as she says this. Or delivering the line with an absolutely straight face.



Nosy: "Not at all. I think it's just very unique."



It's times like this that I remember that he's actually supposed to be a shota. He's such a badass that I forget quickly though.

Finally there's an awesome shota option in an English game I can (supposedly) afford and they troll me.

I honestly don't see Mirai as a shota, maybe I did near the beginning but now he seems so... unshotaish (totallyaword)

I don't see him as a shota at all. He's just really playful and it's adorable.

He fills the function of the shota route by being younger than Nosy by a few years (I think she's in her early/mid twenties?), for all intent and purposes.

Realistically, he's around my age, so he's definitely no shota from my standing point.

He's really not a shota regardless, since he's on the far end of puberty - as far as I know, the term technically doesn't mean anything regarding an age difference per se so much as it refers to the fetishization of pre- or just-pubescent boys.

Which is frowned upon in these parts, so the forum just uses the term loosely to idicate any male love interest character younger than the protagonist. Even when the age difference is really kind of negligible (see Junpei).

Speaking as someone who's older than they look, I'm not even comfortable with Legal Jailbait options either. Mirai's legal but also looks and acts his age, if a bit precocious at times.

Yeah. To be honest it kind of bothers me, because even though it's being used in a harmless context here, there's still an inherent skeeviness to the term that I can't help but think of whenever I read it.

Cougar is generally a woman in her late 40s or 50s who dates men in their early 20s, also its a pretty negative term. I always just call a man who is 2+ years younger a shota and a prepubescent guy loli-shota.

If a new term is decided upon, I will be happy to change :)

I generally use quick terms because it's easier for me to get an idea of the dynamics found within a route. Hence with terms like "Kohai" I get the whole "Ah, right, Senior/Junior in high school dynamic" instantly pictured, so I can go into the route with an idea of what to expect. Simple convenience for me, but I do agree, not using the term shota is for the best because, well. Yyyyyyeah.

I'd just like to apologize for still using the term "shota route" at all, but it's faster than saying "Man, I'm glad there are well-written routes with an Older woman/Younger guy dynamic where both parties are legal and it's not creepy!" (Though in hindsight, still better than saying shota route.)

I understand. I just feel like saying, for example, "younger guy route" or "younger guy option" conveys enough to get the meaning across without the unfortunate implications. It's not quite as complicated or foreign a concept as the sempai/kohai dynamic, after all.

Or we can call it "the Mirai"! I am okay with that!

I get what you're saying completely. I try to avoid saying shota, but coming short of another better descriptive word, that's all I can really fall on. Just saying the "younger guy route/option" isn't necessarily telling, because there are a lot of routes where the LI is younger but it's never played as being an aspect of the relationship, unlike here where it's something that's occasionally brought up in Mirai's route to underline how precocious he is (without it being creepy).

However, I think we can all unanimously agree that calling these options "the Mirai route" from now on is for the best and awesome. I know that's what I'm going to from now on!
