1931: Scheherazade is a cute Visual Novel created by Black Chicken Studios, the same amazing people that gave us Academagia! I love this game - the characters are well-written, the setting is interesting, the historical/cultural/religious expositions are fascinating, and the obstacles can be maddening (Errr, in a challenging way)

I'll be jumping into this semi-blind. I know the story and the characters in general, I'm familiar with the strategy elements and I've seen some of the endings but everything else is a complete mystery; the game's replay value is very high.

I will explain gameplay mechanics when the need arises. For now, all you need to know is that in addition to the visual novel element, we have some serious stat-building to accomplish for our dear protag-chan, Sadie (so I guess that it makes this a Visual Novel/Life Simulation hybrid) and of course, some serious romancing to do (when we're not pursuing family dreams, that is).

I'll be honest: one of the major reasons why I got this game was because you could romance an ancient, cursed Egyptian mummy. I had also heard other players compare this game to Indiana Jones, and Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego.

And of course, besides Mr. Mummy, we have other bachelors as well: your rival, your college professor, your token childhood friend, and a spy.

There are 11 endings in this game: A romance ending and a friendship ending for each of the 5 bachelors, and an ending called the Dream of Family. And get this.... there are 10 variations for each of those 11 endings. Which brings us to a grand total of... 110 endings that can be achieved. Well, I won't be showing you those variations in this LP (that's just crazy!). That's a pretty intimidating amount of content. And we haven't even gotten around to talking about the side-quests yet!

Notes: Doesn't really care about your knowledge of world history and your hard work as an archaeologist unless it's really important to him. Also biased towards the wealthy.

Notes: He's got some serious trust issues. He lies to you, a lot. He's the character with the most "ouch" in his route. He constantly puts you in danger and uses you. Also, he doesn't even look British, but that might be just me.

Notes: He treats you unfairly because he's jealous of your intelligence and talent. A little desperate for recognition. Nigel is kind of boring compared to the other bachelors. He tends to be a worrywart.

Occupation: Treasure Hunter (a.k.a. an archaeologist's natural enemy)
Notes: He has a father complex. He has trust issues, but they're not as bad as Roland's. There is also one event in his route that has made players greatly annoyed by him. Sterling believes that the end justifies the means.

Notes: Arguably the most noble bachelor of them all, but it takes a while to win his trust. His route raises eyebrows and questions about possible necrophilia. Mr. Mummy is also missable, as unlike the other 4 bachelors he doesn't go out of his way to throw himself in your path.

Name: Scheherazade (the protagonist herself!)
Occupation: Archaeology Student
Notes: This can be considered the "Forever Alone" route. Also, no, you can't date yourself.

Dear Diary,

Allow me to introduce myself for no apparent reason. My name is Scheherazade Keating, the heiress to the Keating family line!

Today is a big day for me for three reasons: One, it's my 18th birthday (which means all of the eligible bachelors will soon fall prey to my charms); two, it's Graduation Day (naturally, I'm the valedictorian); and three, I just discovered my father's secret cigar stash (and in my opinion, is one of the most important discoveries I've ever made in my life)! My dear Aunt Evelyn also forced me to go on a scavenger hunt that encompassed all of New York City, but it was a trifling challenge easily conquered by my stunning good-looks and incredible intellect.

In short, it was just a normal day in the life of an active otome-protagonist.

P.S.

In the end, I never really got around to drinking that fabulous champagne my dear Aunt Evelyn promised me.
I guess the moral of this story is to never resist the pull of alchohol, even though it's illegal.
I blame my (apparently) perfect upbringing.

Do you guys prefer more screenshots in my updates? Or do you prefer the "summarize what happens then put a screenshot or two" approach?

So far it's fairly easy to make sense of what happens and chuckle at Auntie being Auntie. I'd say it varies with how important a conversation is.

Oh, and facts: did you know the Egyptians removed the brains from mummies using a tool through the nose?

Man, I tried to LP this, but the sheer number of texty screenshots required made my brain hurt. This is awesome! And this is a really fun game, even if the difficulty can make me cry on occasion. Also, I vote for piggy back.
