(Well, hopefully the title will turn out to be incorrect.) Saw this today. I went in knowing very little (had only seen one trailer) and it turned out to be not at all what I expected. As such, I recommend going in unspoiled if possible. It's a Soderbergh movie through and through, and it's great—but I repeat myself. On the whole, it's a small movie about smart, self-interested people in an increasingly complicated situation; it's not hard to follow but it's also not simple and doesn't talk down to the audience; and it's very punchy, coming it well under two hours long. Worth watching.
I wholeheartedly agree. I went in knowing very little and enjoyed it thoroughly. It's not particularly deep, but is a fun thriller.
He's made statements to the effect that he'll stop making movies after his Liberace flick in order to focus on painting or something, although I believe he's backed off it a bit.
Yeah, he said it during an interview with Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo when he was promoting (I think) 'Contagion'. He said he had three or four more films in the pipe and then he wasn't going to make any more. Kermode's read that the time was that Soderbergh has said things like this before in the past and that he seems to be going through a period during which he is pretty busy so he's possibly a bit burnt out ('Contagion', 'Haywire', 'Magic Mike' and now 'Side Effects' have all been released in the past couple of years). This is borne out by Soderbergh's recent statements to the effect that he's not necessarily retiring but that he is taking something of a sabbatical.
