This game is old and so are you. I haven't played in a couple of years, but I have rose tinted glasses and somehow when everyone is playing a Demon it assuages the guilt of aggression. Is anyone else interested? Nemesis need not apply.

Last time we tried this, both groups gave up relatively early. I'd love to join in tho

Other time zones are fine, the goal is to try and do a turn a day, but vacations/exceptions are fine. I haven't played the mini-expansion either, so this should be fun, definitely will be the "new" map theme, Infernal Divide. I want to wait for fifth if possible, but hopefully we can get started early next week.

Oh dang, I think EduardoX got this one... but I'd love to be in a game that can accommodate a UK timezone player!

(Forewarning: I haven't played the game at all for like a year or more, and I have never played it multiplayer...)
  9. Saccaroa Armchair Designer

Damn, too late. But if there are other people interested, a second game, maybe?
  10. Nate Worked The System

I'm so terrible at this game, but I'd be willing to play another round of it :) So if a second game gets going, I'm in.

And we're off, I will laugh a lot if someone casts a deceit ritual on nife2o4's legion on turn 1. We all chose lust and he's 2 hexes away from the temple of lust with a starting legion that probably can take the temple. Also 4 hexes from a +2 tribute roll place of power which is just a bit further from the temple of lust. I'll try and get a screenshot map up when I'm back home.

Can BatWings and Legion identify their forums names? I think I have the mapping right in the OP, but it would be nice to confirm.

The only other place of power (besides the +tribute that I mentioned) that is special is the Summit of Mt. Erebus, adjacent to Sacarroa in his little corner.

Well, now I know who will be looting the vaults all the time. The Amulet of shadows is +3 resist deceit for 1 lucky archfiend.
It looks like most of us tried to max legion stats for an early start, Kat's legion looks a little slow, and on further inspection, went with Gluttony to stand out.

I was already paranoid before the game started and now that it has painted a big fat target on me by starting me right next to the Temple of Lust, I'm even more paranoid. I'd point out that the PoP by Legion/Saccaroa is really easily defended because of the rift and they have a good shot at a second PoP if they can beat Meserach to it.

Also that 1 move really hurts, so I suspect Kat has a very nefarious plan with those extra points.
Kat, Nate, deadbuffalo and 3 others like this.
  18. Saccaroa Armchair Designer

Ha, if we are assessing threats I'll point out that nife2o4 is dangerous not only because he can take the Temple of Lust - that will matter more towards the end- but also because he has easy access to the +2 to tribute roll POP, which will get him significantly ahead of us in the most important initial tribute race.
    Just sayin'.

Ok yeah and it goes without saying that all slothful fiends have a nefarious plan.

edit: Oh, and I almost forgot Deadbuffalo. So conveniently close to the Pandemonium...

Says the demon who controls the bridge to Pandemonium...Turn 1 was already interesting. My notes file and threat list changed a bunch. One other interesting point is that nife's legion is already level 6, with decent stats, compared to everyone else's level 2 legion. He probably will grab up 3 PoPs, including the aforementioned +2 tribute rolls. I expect an early prestige leader.
    . katdemandturn1.jpg
Kat, you're a demon after my own heart making a demand on turn 1.

I'll put out updated maps every time a token is drawn or so for those who are playing at home.

I hate being the early prestige leader, that's a sure way to lose. Though level 6 legion is nice :)

I can't believe we already have a demand, and Meserach was already able to afford to buy another legion. This is going to be a brutal game.

Oh and I haven't even adjusted my threat list yet, you're all at the top of it so far!

My starting slaves, while devoted and otherwise simply delightful company, are regrettably lacking in certain... physical departments; my purchase of the lovely Hell Blades was merely prudence. I find any suggestions that I am seeking any kind of brutality to be most unseemly!

Here we are in turn 4, and we have our first declaration of Vendetta by Baron kat, after his (entirely reasonable, I'm sure) demands were unaccountably rejected by Baron EduardoX; who instead muscled past his threatening legions to lay claim to the Great Wheel of Pain! My, how eager we are. It remains to be seen what terms of vendetta Baron kat will set; they shall live, I think, in the most interesting times in those border cantons.

Meanwhile, the good Marquis nife2o4 has claimed his second place of power (the something of Pride, I forget; details are so dull) and Lord Legion/Saccaroa has purchased some interesting fellows with leathery wings, no doubt to be soon pressed toward some dark purpose, as is only wrong. Marquis Deadbuffalo, by contrast, appears to have done nothing at all this turn; nothing visible, that is.

Oh. Me? I'm so flattered you asked. I just finished this manicure, there were some troop movements and things, and I'm seeing the interior decorator at four about a new scheme for my stronghold.

  25. Saccaroa Armchair Designer

Oh, no, those winged fellows? I only purchased them as a hobbyist, I admire their melodious screams chirps, and the putrid cool wind of their wings brings some much needed solace from the summer, err, winter heath.* As a mere lord I'm fully aware that any attempt to quarrel with my betters in rank would be futile at best.

Baron Kat has taken the Great Wheel of Pain from Baron EduardoX, which may well satisfice the terms of his vendetta by itself. Elsewhere things are rather quiet; I can only assume my fellow demonic nobility are taking a little time for themselves, which so important to do in such trying times.

Baron kat has completed his early vendetta with success! How the lower ranks of nobility squabble so. The Disciples of kat (K1 on the map above) advanced right up to the canton adjacent to Baron Bat Looking Demon's stronghold, while the Bat's own legions remained eerily motionless. Everyone's else's legions remained quiet, in fact. In any case, kat gains 5 prestige from the enterprise, while Bat loses one.

With the cessation of hostilities along the kat/Bat border, a time of consolidation begins. Bat Looking Demon pulls his Disciples (B1 on map) back from the border to the canton just below his other legion (B2), thus reconnecting his borders, somewhat. Kat's own slothful Disciples remain parked immediately too the left of the Bat-stronghold. Elsewhere, the Slaves of Legion finally advance from the bridge they were waiting on and make a beeline for for the Temple of the Damned (P2) with what I can only describe as indecent haste. No other troop movements were in evidence, the bulk of demonkind apparently taking a little siesta to compose themselves.

An unidentified demon lord has also purchased the service of a Praetor (for the uninitiated, a sort of combination champion/general) named Baraqiel, who looks like this:

There's a good deal of activity at the Infernal Bazaar, as mystery Archfiends lay claim to the Praetor Phenex (an alarming looking fellow with eyes on stalks) and a Relic known as the Tongue of the Liar, which as I recall boosts the holder's Deceit discipline. Sounds like someone plans to be up to all kinds of skullduggery and mischief!

There's also excitement as the Infernal Conclave conducts the first periodic Infernal Census, awarding each Great House prestige according to the number of its Cantons. Everyone gains a good chunk from this, but some a little more so than others...

Troop movements remain rather quiet. Lord Legion halts his Slaves' (L1) advance on the Temple of the Damned (P2). The Slaves of Deadbuffalo (D1) haven't moved at all since their initial seizure of the Iron Staircase, which seems like eons ago now; they're apparently happy using their Mountain Walk ability to squat where no-one else can presently get at them. What can that naughty Marquis be up to?

Oh, and there's some mild amusement when the charming Hell Blades (M2), of my fond acquaintance, succeed in seizing the Altar of Abomination (P4). Entirely incidentally, the glory of this fight, combined with my not insubstantial canton holdings being thus expanded just prior to the census, plus the presitge this turn from the Altar itself, all serve to catapult me upward to a much more pleasant second place in the prestige rankings.

I think it'll make an excellent location for picnicking. Where's that hamper of woven virgin's hair?

    Turn 10 and 11's actions

The dam finally bursts on the collective envy of Marquis nife2o4's position, as in quick succession Baron Bat Looking Demon and Marquis Deadbuffalo make demands for tribute from him. Both have to sacrifice prestige to do so, which they will get back if their tribute demands are met; should they be refused, they may claim vendetta. As it eventuates, the Marquis nife2o4 acquiesces to the earlier demand of the bat-looking one; his response to his fellow Marquis is still awaited.

An unknown Achfiend purchases the Amulet of Shadows at the Bazaar, which will give them some increased resistance to deceit rituals directed against them by other archfiends. Should any of us be so diabolical as to do such things, I mean.

Troop movements are also seen: the Disciples of Bat Looking Demon (B1 above) move eastward to a canton adjacent to some lake; whether to pressure Marquis Deadbuffalo's border or as an indication of intention toward The Temple of the Damned (P2) I would not dare to speculate. And the Darkwing Legion (L2) in the pay of Lord Legion take to the air and land on the canton north of the Pit of Tartarus (P3).

Oh, and on both turns further Conclave tokens were drawn, bringing the total drawn now to 4, hastening the calling of the Conclave and the coronation of the Ruler of Hell yet further....

Sadly the lower demons have set up an experimental socialist transfer scheme to allow Barons or lower to choose an extra tribute card for 4 turns. Those ranked higher than baron are supposed to foot the bill for this by giving up one tribute card choice. Looks like I'm going to have to get my tribute the old fashioned way.

Well, someone has been looting my vaults. I have evidence the good Marquis nife2o4 is responsible; although I would caution my fellow Archfiends that not all is always as it seems in such matters.... although that said, an Archfiend sufficiently Cunning to achieve such a thing seems unlikely at this relatively early stage.

I can certainly say that I would never do anything so craven as to hide behind rituals and steal other fiend's things. When I come for you, I'll move straight at you and destroy you openly.

I'm disappointed in my fellow archfiends, ganging up and demanding tribute from a quiet hellion who is just sitting and reveling in the love of his subjects.

Really, the worst mistake in this game is to be winning (or to appear to be winning) in the early stages.
