Spaceships, Gorrammit!

  1. Lizard_King Already Beat BF's New Expansion

The only thing that I didn't like in the previews he mailed out was the marriage stuff. Not that it was full on Record of Agarest War 2 creepy but just a little off, like it swerves into Mary Sue wish fulfillment rather than sticking with good old fashioned space adventure. I dunno, it's probably not important enough in the scheme of the game, but it kept being front and center in the emails.

"They never go on sale" "They never ever go on sale!" (I decide to just buy them then, and then literally two days later) "Distant Worlds on Sale!"... and now here we are, only a month or two later "Distant Worlds on sale again!".

    Damn you, Distant Worlds.

Hey man, I'm sorry, before these particular sales, sales on these games were pretty rare. :(

Buying Distant Worlds at full price probably negated all my savings from the last two Steam Sales. >:(

It wasn't just you making the claim though, so I'm not placing blame. I had been lurking their forums for a while and had been seeing the same thing there.

    Oh, okay, good. Thanks man.

New version of Starfarer is out: http://fractalsoftworks.com/2012/11/23/starfarer-0-54a-release/

In his typical fashion, he downplays the patch notes but if you really think about the work entailed that's a lot of changes.

    • Character skills and aptitudes (19 skills and 4 aptitudes to choose from)
    • Redesigned fleet command interface
    • A slew of new features available to modders

    Dear Mr. Rubin,

I read with interest your recent posting concerning something called "Limit Theory." I have not read the article due to my brower's link functionality not working correctly with my low temperature Canadian Brand Mouse, but I believe that I can guess the nature of this theory.

    "The Rubin Limit Theory"

"The probability as bytes->infinity that pages that should be dedicated to discussions of Kerbal Space Program is unity."

In effect, this theory clearly sets forward the need for pages on your "blog" entitled "Space Game Junkie" to immediately stop being about anything other than Kerbal Space Program.

Sadly the current probability is too low and therefore experimental data must be changed to match.

    cf. http://www.spacegamejunkie.com/tag/kerbal-space-program/

I look forward with great interest to your attention to this matter.

    Signed,

    S. E. Chop, Esq

    Dear Mr. Chop,

It was with great sadness and despair that I read your letter regarding my lack of coverage of Kerbal Space Program. I assure you that I do all that I can to cover as many games as I can with the limited amount of time and energy I have.

While the game in question is truly an excellent product, please do not take my perceived lack of coverage as a lack of interest. On the contrary, I am quite intrigued by said program, and have on three occasions now attempted to play the game.

I say "attempted" because while I was able to load said program, and then try to build a successful rocket, none of these were met with anything close to the level of success that one should expect of a space game veteran such as myself.

It is with some shame that I must admit that, until I feel more comfortable with the program -- enough so to actually play the game part of it -- I don't feel comfortable writing the game about with any perceived air of authority, because as of right now I have none.

Therefore, I hope you'll forgive me when I say I need more time in study and consultation with this program before I feel I can give it its due attention and praise. Certainly a fan of the game such as yourself would want, nay, demand nothing less, am I correct?

Thank you for your correspondence in this matter.

    Humbly, your servant,

Viscount B. C. Rubin, Knight of the Bath, Earl of Lindsey, Baron of Greenock

So, small world time. I'm poking around Brian's site, checking out an old kickstarter for Squad Wars, and lo and behold, I actually went to college with the guy in the upper right of the group portrait. It's a shame it didn't get funded.

Yeah, I can think of VERY few space sims with dynamic campaigns. Basically Starshatter and X-Com Interceptor.

I got that PR today. VERY exciting!

Honestly? That game intimidates me. I've tried it a few times and either build a horrible ship that can't fly or can't fly a pre-made one. I just don't think it's clicked yet.

The tutorial isn't IN the game, which bugs the HELL out of me, but I'll give it a shot. And naw, DW doesn't intimidate me at all, but I did read the awesome manual beforehand, then completed the tutorials (IN the game). ;)
