Thanks for that, I'll try to get to reading it this weekend if I can tear myself away from Skyrim. ;)

Speaking of, while taking a short Skyrim break last weekend to avoid burnout, I tried a bit of Diaspora, the BSG-themed Freespace 2 total conversion. Holy shit is that game hard. They changed a bunch of stuff up from Freespace 2, such as no target lead sight and different keyboard commands, which are totally throwing me off, but it's got the feeling right.

Flatspace 1&2 are on sale at Indiegamestand. Anyone know about Flatspace? It's like an EVNova-lite? Was it an iOS/Android game?
  3. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

Huh, thought I responded to this. Flatspace are indeed EV Nova Lite, I played a bit of the first one years ago and enjoyed it, but not for very long as I think I actually moved ONTO EV Nova at the time. ;) Worth $2 though.

    0. Click on the biggest hangar/construction room to start creation.
    1. Pick a command pod. Drag it to the main screen. This step is mandatory.
    2. Pick a fuel tank from the Propulsion tab. Slot it under the command pad.
    3. Pick an engine from the Propulsion tab. Slot it under the fuel tank.
    4. Click launch. Look at the orb in the center and notice the throttle moving when you hold down Shift. Max it out for launch.
    5. Hit Space.

    6-10,000-infinity. Explode, refine, repeat.

Seriously, you should be all over this. It even has a "living" universe that you yourself populate with various successful and failed attempts, that you can later attempt to rendez vous with or rescue (but more usually, fail at rescuing).
  5. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

That's it? Really? Well now I have to try it.

This game constantly sets off a really fucking annoying alarm. Fly in the general vicinity of a spacestation, annoying alarm. Another civilian ship is in your vague proximity, fucking annoying alarm. Point your ship in the direction of anything at all, more fucking bullshit alarms. This is miserable.

Too earthly... needs more red fungus (isolated tiles? bleh). Why even bother getting excited about video gaming in an alien world if it just looks like Earth 2.0.

Watch Matrix slap an eye-watering price tag on it, keep it off Steam, and then wonder why it only appeals to a niche. :(

Seriously. Matrix Games had its time and place -- along with outfits like Shrapnel -- in keeping The Grog alive during some real tough times. However, with the ubiquity of digital distribution now, Matrix (...and Shrapnel) is more of a ghetto now. THE MAN IS HOLDING YOU BACK, DISTANT WORLDS :)

I get updates from 'em and always post 'em in my news briefs, and link to the Q&A I did with 'em, so I hope it helps. I hope they make it because I'd love to play the game.

Hey kids, I got some coupon codes for 25% off Strike Suit Zero, so I figured I'd share 'em. Use this code, KS7PNSFEN, on this page to get the discount. I dunno if it only works once or multiple times though, so it might be first come, first served.

Oh god, it's a homework assignment! Though I guess it's better than being forced to create your favorite spaceship using macaroni and paper mache.

Mine would be a crossover between a few franchies. It would feature a ship stuffed full of Gungans and overrun by Alien xenomorphs. And of course the ship in question would be the Event Horizon.

Anyone else pick up strike suit zero?

I've only played a couple missions so far, but the controls feel good and guns have a satisfying boominess to them.

However, the complete lack of a radar or map function in game is killing me. I can't orient correctly, and constantly lose targets only to spend several seconds wildly spinning in space trying to reaquire them. Not being able to see important things like torpedoes coming is also incredibly annoying. I'm sad, because the lack of this one feature will probably kill the game for me.

I picked it up because I'm a sucker. F will always try to target important shit, like Torps. Useful to tap it a few times right after you kill something.

I found it enjoyable enough right up until the Bomber mission. Because you know what isn't fun in that game? Being a bomber and relying entirely on NPC fighters to cover you. The mission is basically an RNG of "did the enemy fighter pack decide you're the next bomber to focus: Y/N"

The problem with F is that it's dependent on distance. While hitting F might target a cannon that COULD be a threat to your incoming bombers, the interceptors that are picking them off close to them are a much bigger threat, but F doesn't target those. It's frustrating. :/

No rush, let it percolate a bit. They've already patched it, and it could use some more.

It's a fun game, really, maybe moreso than Elite: Dangerous will be. ;)

Also, I'm having my first-ever live Q&A tonight, which will be streamed to my site via Google Hangout, so I hope y'all enjoy it. :)
