That is ... Actually kind of awesome. BREACH was the first Amiga game I ever bought.
  17. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

Oh wow, very cool! :) And thank you, high praise indeed. :)

Nice, I'm looking forward to listening to this. I loved the Universe and Breach games (other than Breach 3, which does not exist).

Man if you could interview the Kerbal guys it would be awesome!

Or you could interview me and Calistas about Kerbal and it would be slightly less awesome.
  24. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

Hah, one thing at a time. :) Sounds like fun though!

I know one of the guys who worked on RoE2 - Chris Foster. He was a senior designer at Turbine back in the day. He's currently at Harmonix, where he was lead designer on The Beatles Rock Band. I think he said he did some UI design on RoE (and according to the manual, the manual). I still run into him at PAX East.

Hey folks, I could honestly use some opinions here. I'm thinking of switching to an all-video format for my reviews and previews, and I'm trying to gauge user feedback, so I opened a poll:

If y'all could vote on how you feel about the idea, I'd honestly appreciate it. Thanks folks. :)

Done. Text for me, although I'm cool with a balance as well. I just read faster is all; although the one? I think video I watched on your sight was good. Distant Worlds would probably work better as a video (although with editing), as the UI and what you actually DO in a game is a puzzle to me - but something like a space shooter would work better in text, since it's obvious how that works and you could focus on highlights.

So yeah, text or a mix, as appropriate. :)

Also, yay on KSP. Are you glad we pushed you into that? :P
  34. Brian Rubin Armchair Designer

Yeah, I'm thinking a balance between text and video, chosen on a game-by-game basis, might be best for everyone. And yay KSP! It hates me, but I love it.

I voted text, for the reasons of personal practicality. Text allows me to proceed at my own pace. I read pretty fast - far faster than a video. If I have five minutes, I can read something in five minutes. If I have five minutes and a video is ten minutes long, I don't watch it at all. If I need to walk away for a while, I can quickly skim stuff I've already read to bring me back up to speed. With a video, I ave to watch it again from the beginning or resign myself to the possibility of forgetting something. I can read in stolen moments at work and home, while a video monopolizes my attention by requiring eyes and ears. I know there are people (usually artists, in my experience) who can have videos running while they work, but I can't - they distract me.

I'm much more likely to start - and finish - a text review than a video one.

Excellent and honest answer, exactly what I'm looking for. Would you be okay if I balanced it out, some games being covered in video, some in text?

Yessssss, I spent so much time in there, but not as much money since their prices were ridic. They eventually closed and a Stop N' Save Software moved in, and GOD did I love them.
