Quantum Conundrum purchased. 3rd blood drawn. Since I've been imbibing I got all the DLC and nonsense for $5.
With all the competition now, the Steam Sale just doesn't feel very special anymore. I'm more interested in the Gamefly (Gamefly!) sale at the moment (XCom for $20 with code HOLIDAY20), and it was only recently that I even found out they sell downloadable PC games.
Steam is supposed to mail me about things on my wishlist which are on sale right? Yet I haven't heard anything, despite at least one of my items being a "Today's deal" item. Does buying a game, or activating a key, remove the item from your wishlist or is it all manual work?
As I recently found out, it's manual work! (Got gifted a game I had on my wishlist that I already owned through SS). However, I've gotten multiple emails about stuff being on sale. You have to check a box, I think, somewhere.
Thank you! Kohan: Ahriman's gift! I would have missed it, didn't know it was on steam. Used to be every time I got a new comp I'd dig up my old disk and code and load it on, but I had given up on the process on this computer. Tragedy averted.
I recall briefly renting one of the Condemned titles on 360 a few years ago. It was certainly the best First Person Hobo Bludgeoner I've ever rented, but it didn't really hold my interest.
Any thoughts on Universe Sandbox? I really love Kerbal Space Program but US seems maybe a bit too sandboxy.
It is basically a space atlas. You don't really "do" much. If you love playing Google Earth, you will love the Sandbox.
Calistas left out an important thing: you can fuck with things. You can make two galaxies collide with each other. You can crank up gravity and see what happens. You can increase the speed of the timesteps and watch as the reduced precision of the mathematical approximations causes planets to improbably slingshot across the universe at 90% the speed of light. You can make a star system with black holes in place of all the stars, planets, and moons. It is a sandbox, but it's got some really hilarious crap in there.
Anyone who wanted to pay for the Dota 2 early access, don't. There are a number of people around on this forum even who have extra copies happy to give away, like myself. Creole Ned summed it up beautifully describing it as a fungus. 6 copies in my inventory. Six!!! Oh, and an extra copy of Civ V (minus G&K).
Second blood: Robin Hood: Legend of Sherwood for $2.50. I am told that it is like Commandos, but with Robin Hood. What's not to like?
Ooh. From that list, Half-Minute Hero (40% off, $6) is a stand-out. Very fun -- and, no surprise, fast-playing! -- take on genre tropes. Definitely worth a look for anyone who's enjoyed SNES-era RPGs.
Bought Ace of Spades earlier. Apparently I'm to play it with friends. Doubt I will. The much better decision was to acquire Jagged Alliance 2: Gold Edition for something like $3. Goodbye 13 year old discs.
It's a light yet innovative mp shooter (no singleplayer.) Well made but silly. A little dash of Minecraft under fire. I would recommend it.
Cross-posting from the bargain thread: Dark Souls is $14.99 on amazon at the moment: http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Souls-Prepare-Edition-Online/dp/B00917DBUE This is a Steam game. There's a rumor floating around on Neogaf that it will go on sale on amazon for $17.99 in January, at which point you can use a $5 voucher to make it even cheaper. I'm not sure if it will get cheaper in the Steam sale, so this might be a good deal to jump on.
I haven't spent a dime yet. These sales are training me to treat games less than 75% off as a waste of money.
Hrm, Walking Dead is going to be on sale for half off ($12.50 for me) in a few minutes. Now my dilemma is whether to buy now or wait and see if it goes cheaper. It probably won't, will it?
I'd love to grab Dark Souls for myself at that price, but Amazon downloads are US only. Is there anyone willing to help my buy it? I'll Paypal the money right away and you'll get a $5 Amazon voucher out of it! Edit: I found someone to grab it for me :D
While technically not allowed you can make a US-address amazon account and make your purchases that way. Never heard of anyone getting in trouble for it. Which, of course, does not mean that no one will get in trouble for it in the future.
I'd been hoping Deadlight would be going on sale... Walking Dead's been on sale for that price on several other sites now.

I've been trying to buy Dark Souls via that Amazon deal, but their order processing is totally flaking out on me. It started by asking me to re-enter my credit card info in order to confirm that I'm ordering from my own account. This on its own triggered my Internet scam Spidey sense, so I cancelled out of that and closed the tab, then opened a new one and surfed to Amazon manually, searched for Dark Souls, and clicked "buy." Okay, same thing--fair enough. So it gives me a page to enter my card info, with a note that says that this will be added to my account as a new card. Uh, no? It's the card already associated with the account. So I enter the info anyway, and finalize the purchase, and it goes to a "processing" screen that chugs away for like four minutes before giving me an error and suggesting that I try the order again. So I do, and it says that because of how Amazon's digital fulfillment system works, it may take up to four hours to actually process, and to check back later. So I check back in a half hour or so, and now it lists the order in my "orders" page, but says that customer action is required in order to complete the order. Of these options, the only one that it will let me do is enter a new card number. I entered the info correctly before, but I try it again, and get the same thing again. Success, with a note that it may take time to process, and then I check back and find this same "customer action required" error. There's nothing wrong with the card--I just used it to buy something on Steam. I'm tempted to just say "Fuck Amazon's digital fulfillment service--fuck it with a rusty spork." But I'd really love to get Dark Souls PC for $15.
I bought DS via Amazon. Every time I've bought a game there they've asked for my credit card info. Apparently they can't use what is on file for those particular digital orders. After that it took about ten seconds to process and spit out a code. Currently downloading in Steam along with The Walking Dead. Everyone else should be happy, because the fact that I just bought it on Amazon for $15 means it will come up as the Steam Daily Deal for $10 in a few minutes.
The daily deals for December 23 are: Chivalry: Medieval Warfare $12.49 (50% off) Anno 2070 $19.99 (60% off) Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Complete Pack $13.49 (75% off) Saints Row The Third $7.49 (75% off) Carrier Command $28.99 (50% off) Portal 1 & 2 $6.24 (75% off) EDIT: Made a few adjustments. I swear they are changing prices on the fly.
I have purchased nothing so far. I'm disappointed that Baker's reverse karma didn't come through on Dark Souls. The next flash deals are in four hours...
I like how "the full package" for SR3 is not. The DLC I would actually want, the one that lets you have all the toys in the game regardless of which artificially manufactured choices you were forced to make, is not included.
