    Looks like the US variety have a more ratlike snout. Out of curiosity, what is their behaviour like towards humans?

    This is the Common Brushtail Possum, the most widespread type in Australia. There's also a black variety (I don't have any pics of them though).

    The Golden variety get their colour from a genetic mutation resulting in low melanin levels in their skin and fur. They're rare in the wild, probably because their colour makes it hard to hide from predators. Some zoos breed them, though.


    Edit: Also, did you know that a baby echidna is called a 'puggle'?
    I just think that's funny.

    They love our garbage cans, but other than that they are not commonly domesticated. I've seen one in my yard a few times, and his behavior toward me consists mostly of hissing and running away. They are like gigantic rats.
