Off in the diversions forum, there's a thread called "Miniature tabletop gaming" that I assume has tips for playing games on small tables.

War of the Ring is actually a board game, not a minis war game - literally the board itself doesn't fit on our kitchen table, it overhangs, and there's a lot of other stuff that has to be at hand. Were it something more like 40k then yeah, I could make do with a smaller space.

I just take it on the road to friends' houses instead.

Board games are definitely my main frivolous expenditure, largely because a lot of my historical expenditures have disappeared in modernity. I used to spend a ton on books, but now with ebooks, I never worry about having a library, and just buy books at the moment I'm ready to read them, which has cut expenses down massively; I used to buy lots of CDs for the same library reasons, but now I just pay $5/month for Rhapsody, and add them to my "library" there; I used to buy piles of DVDs, but now it's just $8 for Netflix and the occasional $4 rental. My videogaming has moved from $60 AAA games to $1 phone/tablet games, mostly.

All told, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm paying thousands of dollars a year less for entertainment media than I did five years ago.

Thanks to this description, the Boss FB-2 is on its way to my home. You son of a bitch.

Hah! Awesome. If you have a Big Muff, tell me how it works in tandem.

Uh oh. Daddy just won the office fantasy football league and was just handed $150 in cash. Must. Deposit. In. Bank.

I have a Big Muff Pi. Field reports to follow whenever it arrives.

    • Board games
    • Toys (Transformers, TMNT, and Legos once my son's old enough not to choke on them)
    • Video games (almost exclusively PC, though, as my console gaming time has gone down drastically)
Oh, and I got a PS Vita, which is totally frivolous in that it's a fantastic piece of hardware with a barren software library and dim prospects and overpriced accessories, but fuck, Persona 4 Golden is awesome. I'm perfectly happy with it as just a P4G and Hot Shots Golf machine.

Ya know, the last time this all occurred, she had an elaborate plan that included showing me pictures of her two children. Having two myself..what was I supposed to do? We had so much in common, amirite?

40k and similar miniature games generally assume that you have rather large table sizes. Which is why a lot of miniature gamers make their own appropriate-sized tables by taking MDF sheets or similar, sawing them to the required size, painting or otherwise decorating them, and just placing them on top of a smaller table.

If a stripper showed me pictures of her kids, I'd be like "Is there another girl around here who can come grind on my lap? Maybe one who DOESN'T turn me off with pictures of her spawn?" But then I don't like children...

HA! Yes, I see where you are coming from and if I were normal, I would agree, but I am pretty sure that I am there in a vain attempt to fill some hole or other psychological angle. The more "real person" she is, the more endearing. I have never been accused of being normal where relationships are concerned. Evidently the stripper-patron relationship is no exception. Now I feel like this discussion should go into yet another thread. Like a "What the fuck is the deal with Tyjenks" thread. Let's not start that one, though. ;)

Well, some gamers do that, no doubt. But a truly dedicated gamer gets one of these...

    Well, DUH.

    Oh.

I still think RyanMM's "college fund" is a weird euphemism for "G-string."

A truly dedicated gamer would take the money that table costs and use it on something from Forge World.

Sure, that moves and stuff but it's no Sultan:

Apparently houses, because I just bought a big expensive one with large tracts of land.

Moving makes you realize all the shit you have bought but never use.

My frivolous purchases (after videogames) are various and sundry electronic devices and cables whether computer, audio/visual or gadgety. I packed boxes of useless shit from various online vendors that I had to purchase because they were 1.5% off retail price! Not to mention speakers. I have WAY too many speakers.

I'm also now going to purchase an expensive candle to power smell my new house which still has a whiff of prior owner and glade wildflower electric deodorizer.
