In the case of Tactics Ogre, there's a built-in screenshot function, but normally, yeah, I think you'd have to use either an emulator or custom firmware ( Matt Bowyer mentioned this in the LP discussion thread).

CIPL Pro-B, something something 639. PRO Firmware, I think, is what I use.

Also, because I am a complete amateur at this kind of thing: how do people do screenshots of games played on consoles? There are a few PS3 games that I'd love to do LPs of, but I have no idea where to even start in trying to get screenshots of things from that. Do you buy some sort of peripheral, or is it an app, or some built-in function I don't know how to find...?

(Specifically, I'm staring wistfully at Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny. It's got a ginormous rock golem who punches sea monsters... and you still get to yank individual potatoes out of the ground! Best of both worlds!)

You'd probably have to buy a video capture card. That'll capture video and you could take screenshots from that. I've never use one of those before, so that's pretty much the extent of my knowledge.

For RF: ToD, if you have a suitable rig for it then you could always run the Wii version with Dolphin.

I used to have a Wii--and the Wii version of the game--but that was stolen with all the other consoles and games back in August. Since I bought a PS3, but not a Wii yet, I just rebought the game in that version.

I legitimately want a group of people to get together and do an LP of FATAL. It's a horrible game with a horrible premise that's confusing as all hell, but I just want to play it for laughs.

i really, really don't. which is why i made this a let's play request.

Oh God. I, uh, kind of know how to run tabletop games. I'm really disorganized and flaky and I'd need to learn the rules. But, like, if we had absolutely nobody else, I could figure it out.

I also want to request that someone LP through Valkyria Chronicles, because it's an awesome enough game that I want to see someone more skilled explain the mechanics and such, but the characters are sort of 2D enough that I'd like to see someone else write the snark on them. (I like them enough that it's not like I'm trying to find someone shouting "YOU SUCK" at the screen constantly, but some of this dialogue is just crying out for entertaining commentary.)

Basically, any of the Tales games. I recently bought Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Legendia, but don't own a PS2, so Legendia decided it hated my PS3 and Abyss will apparently freeze once I get to Coral Castle or whatever it's called and I sobbed gross tears because I wanted these games for so long why would they do this to me

And uh. I would. Also like to see RareWare games. Because RareWare was boss until Microsoft bought them. Although I'm not too sure how great of an LP you can make of those and 64 games so. I will shut up. Yes. Sounds like a plan.

And I don't remember the title but there was this game involving Chopin that I constantly mistake with Tales of Symphonia (which is how I found out about the series, actually) that I would absolutely love to see LPed. And Grim Grimoire.

I ... I really, really, really don't think you guys should try to play F.A.T.A.L. All the ways it is bad, are not the ways that make you go 'ha ha this is so terrible it is literally unplayable!' (cf. something like World of Synnibar) They're more like "oh someone decided to write a rape simulator. That's ... special."

And I don't mean that figuratively. There are charts for it. Avoid.

EDIT: Also you need to consider if you want this forum to show up on Google searches related to playing that game and attract... them. You know, them.

I have to agree. I think this is one of those things where the IDEA of it is actually more amusing than actually going through with it. Plus, I think I remember the system being really rules heavy, which, when combined with being played by forum, tends to not make for a good match.

It would be interesting to see someone try to run something like Paranoia or another "Story Game", though.

I've said this before, but I really want JohnStargazer to run a game of Everyone is John.

But assuming that you chose not to roll for circumferences and depths and basically negated all terrible parts of it (see: get rid of all the rape bits for obvious fucking reasons), I'm wondering if it would be interesting to play.

I found this. It's a takedown review of what is essentially a poorly-designed RPG with tons of extremely complicated rules for sex and rape, so consider this a trigger warning for like every motherfucking thing possible. I've only skimmed that link, but if you want an example that I feel about sums up what I've learned so far without risking (much) trauma, here's one of the rules:

Think through all the ways this is awful. They bothered to make a rule about this, for starters. The rule is really complicated, for seconds. For thirds, that's a better than fifty percent chance of the hymen remaining intact, which seems just a little high to me, but that's only because I'm a thinking adult human. Are there more? Probably!

You know the creepy mouth-breather nerds who stare at girls and make angry posts about how girls OWE them sex?

Imagine if one of them made the worst, crappiest, most sexually offensive RPG ever.

I think it would be interesting to watch other people try to play it for about ten minutes before tabbing out and looking at kitten pictures for a few hours. There's no way in hell I'd ever do it myself, and I'd probably just end up feeling bad for everyone involved.

In short, I'd imagine that the game is excruciating to play, slightly less excruciating to watch, and kind of funny to read about.
