The "Man, I wish that word was used more often" thread

Similar to madkevin 's "Remove one word" thread, what's one word that you wish was more commonplace? Maybe it's fallen out of use, maybe you just like how it sounds.

Mine is "dolt." I'd love for it to come back because the world would be more awesome if insults were done in the style of Doctor Doom. "Let the record show that my esteemed colleague in the Senate is an insufferable dolt."

I still use it as my go-to term for women in the general, since "girls" can often sound like a diminutive, "women" often is too all-encompassing, and "ladies" doesn't work if not all the gals referred to happen to be ladies.

I am also aware that it makes me sound like I stepped out of a production of Guys And Dolls at times. That may be because I also use "dames" without any irony.

Ironic. Like rain on your wedding day.

Do you ever have trouble remembering the word for it?

Recherche. I enjoy it because it is self-descriptive, although I guess if it were more widely used, it no longer would be.

An awesome word, but I like "antepenultimate" even more. Especially when I can find a good excuse to use it.

It's only pretentious if you use them deliberately in order to make yourself seem fancypants. If you use them naturally, that's the opposite of pretense!

(Though it still startled me when some acquaintances got all "Oh, that's so cute!" about my use of "conversely" in casual conversation. It's a good word! It's not even an unusual word! It's a perfectly cromulent adversative conjunction, dammit.)

(...I mean, okay, it's not actually a conjunction, it's an adverb, but it can be used in much the same sense as "Therefore" or "On the other hand" so I don't think it's unreasonable to classify it with them in some sense.)

Daresay. Basically, I want Dickensian speech patterns back in their entirety.

Also, defenestrate. Though using it more would require people to be tossed out of windows more often.

More people should call root beer 'super water'.

Thinking about it, the word legitimate.

Speak for yourself. I was playing a Big-Damn-Heroes-In-Space simulator.
I just want proper virtual worlds. Douchebags are optional, as is in-space-ness. There's plenty of mistakes to be learned from in Eve Online as well as successes.

I love whence and thence, but I can't use them properly. It's terrible. I go to use "whence" in a sentence and find myself putting a "from" in front of it, every time. Sigh.

Pulchritude. As in "You are looking especially pulchritudinous today, darling."

Also, Fucktard. Because that's just lovely.

I try to use "contrapositive" as often as possible, especially in serious business talk, and encourage others to do the same.

I called my girlfriend pulchritudinous one day, but she didn't know what it meant. Still, after she looked it up, she thanked me!

When I told her I was feeling lachrymose after she made me watch Titanic, she didn't bother to look it up. She just made me tell her what it means and then went 'awwww'
