Because we should have one. Let's stick anything mech related (and interesting) in here. So, so far I don't really have much to add, other than some links to some fun concept blogs: We have Concept Robots: And also, Nothin' but mech: Oh, and Hawken is in open beta today.
I would kill for this. Assuming you meant Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. I love online Mechwarrior play to death, but, the single player, full economy version of MW2: Mercs was something special, and is yet to be surpassed.
Since I'm in a very Mech mood as well right now, anyone know if Netflix has any even decent mech movies/anime available these days? I feel like watching giant robots beat each other up. (I can get through over emotional young anime teenagers if needed if they happen to be working at blowing each other up frequently).
What flavor of mecha do you like? Crazy, larger than life, throw any sense of realism or weight out the window? I suggest Gurren Lagan. For more grounded stuff, it seems you have to mostly go older: anything Votoms, 8th MS Special Team The most recent Votoms stuff is: Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Alone Again or the mostly disconnected VOTOMS Finder. For a mix, but more modern: I suggest Code Geass. Err, forgot about the netflix limitation, though some of those are on Hulu. Netflix, its harder...oh there is: Full Metal Panic! I hate the dub, but it's got decent animation, semi grounded mecha. I think Blue Gender is on there as well. Oh, and there are a couple flavors of Macross, and Ghost In the Shell the series, though that is more of a detective/intrigue show that sometimes has mecha in it rather than a show about mecha. I forget if I saw Broken Blade on netflix or Hulu, but also not bad.
Fan made Robotech trailer: It's short, the CG quality is just okay, but still fun to see. EDIT: Oh it's in spanish, but it's mechs, so didn't stop me.
I'm slowly working my way through Robotech on Netflix actually. A lot of cheese, but some good old school mech battles in space and the like. (I'm still early on, they just got back to earth) Also to contribute to the mech of the thread:
Nice, I like the legs, though it does sort of look like it has crotch missiles. The Robotech series held up okay, a lot of it is awful, but still some good action bits and some hints at mature themes. I just recently watched the first Votoms series, and Shining Heresy. It has similar issues with flat characters and a lack of character development, but has lots of fun mech designs. Heresy, being much later and an OVA, was much better animated, but still terrible when it came to story. I totally winced when the female antagonist suddenly declared her eternal love for the main protagonist at the end of the OVA, despite never even having a conversation with the guy.
Yes, but it's worth watching again and again. I'm almost as excited about this as I was about Prometheus, and look how that movie turned out! Oh wait.
Okay, paging Adree. Did anyone know this was a thing? Giant 8 foot tall robots fighting in a ring for reals on SyFy? http://showrenity.com/george-lucas-visits-chris-jericho/ Granted, the tiny little trailer looks cg, so maybe I'm off base and this is actually fake robots. Also, wtf, George Lucas has a MMA fightin' daughter? She get tired of all those people making fun of her dad? =) Trailer:
Mecha cockroaches! Direct to video, which i couldn't embed http://bcove.me/wnepjj8a From New Scientist: http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/onepercent/2013/01/cardboard-cockroach-ranks-amon.html Oh, and not shown in the vid:
http://www.collectiondx.com/article/armarauders_–_new_mecha_toy_line_and_comic_mecha_workshop Some strange indy toyline / comic / motion comic?
I'm shocked no one has mentioned Robot Jox... yet. It's a...um...movie about giant robots. And I use the term movie loosely...
You can buy it on Amazon for $26. Note they suggest buying this with Space Truckers and Ice Pirates, so that should tell you that it's not worth $1, let alone $26...
Well, Ice Pirates does have Robert Urich in it. And the cover art is...something else. Look at the expression of the guy on Urich's right...
Well... This seems to be something that they're trying to crowdsource. At this time there is little to no information, which is pretty concerning. Here's the video that is the meat of today's announcement Unfortunately, the production company's logo was more exciting than the video itself... so... yeah. There's a self-run, no-kickstarter pledge drive at the website I linked, much like Star Citizen, which is ambitious, except that they don't really have any celebrity names attached to the project... or really any footage of anything significant at all... Oh and they're hiring modelers and animators. x_x I have no faith at all that any of this is going to be successful, but I desperately, desperately want it to work. Heavy Gear is one of the game universes I like best, warts and all, but they haven't been presented in a.. well, professional manner this time round. After some more poking around their website, I also saw their list of goals by clicking on the tab at the top. Apparently they'll consider themselves "funded" at 900k, which is a good number, with stretch goals all the way to 10Mil, which is preposterous given the way this is presented. This is painful. THEY NEED TO ORGANIZE THIS BETTER, THEY NEED TO POLISH THIS MORE AND PUT FORTH SOME SORT OF ARGUMENT RATHER THAN JUST... Ahem Rather than just try to bait people with the name of a game 9 people know about (and all of us love it) there should, you know, be SOMETHING there! What is this? An FPS? A tactical TBS game?! Is it for the PC or for phones? I DON'T KNOW! I can't tell from... Okay, okay, taking a breather here...
Yeah, you pretty much have my take on it. It's a new studio, trying to get me to pledge for the game, with reward tiers no less, but they have told me NOTHING about the game beyond some concept art, and NOTHING about the team. Uhh, Take my money? <sarcasm> Slight dig further, and it looks like it might involve MekTek? Which for me, isn't really a positive or a negative.
well, this is better but sounds lofty and overly ambitious, and makes me want to see some gameplay even more before pledging: http://www.stompybot.com/?author=8
I think it's possible, but they're talking about a loooooong development cycle already with that feature set. Ugh. Hawken, a similar game with a similar inception, took years to come out with a beta. Hawken's feature set is even smaller than what this document for Heavy Gear Arena suggests.
That..... looks like someone doing cosplay. I'll need to watch a video with sound I suppose to get a better feel for what they are doing with this.
