OH MY GOD, SO AM IIIII. :O

to be fair, if you do that in some parts of deep downtown LA, other black people look at you funny and think you think you're too good for them.
    and then the yelling starts.

Yes. He does it very graciously though, kind of like a gentle 3rd grade teacher? The majority of responses he gets are kind and maybe there follows a conversation about something nice. But he does it for the few that freak the fuck out at him.

I stumbled into a paleo thread (on MFP) a few weeks ago where someone was explaining that they could only eat grass fed beef because if the cows had been fed on whole grain then the whole grains would "get into the meat" and so they would end up eating whole grains.
What happened to basic biology lessons?

a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, perhaps?

Corn has a unique marker of some sort (don't ask me, I just read it in Palin). Food that has corn as a component, including meat from corn-fed animals, can be detected in the lab because it carries this marker.

"Cornification of America: Phrase coined by Michael Pollan to indicate the pervasiveness of corn products in the national diet, including starches, thickeners, preservatives, and sweeteners. Corn has a molecular marker, C-4, that is retained in tissue, meaning it is theoretcially possible to measure how many corn products a person has consumed over his/her lifespan. More: Read Pollan's Smithsonian article "What's Eating America.""

No quotes, because it's in Danish, but I was invited to this Facebook-group called "angry old journalists" by some colleagues... and it's driving me crazy.

It was supposedly ranting by old experienced journalists about everything that's wrong with the media today... and sometimes it is and quite funny at that. But the most active posters there are either ranting about moslems, the lie about smoking and cancer perpetuated by the Medical Complex and the NGO's (smoking is totally not dangerous) and the dangers of mobile phones and wireless devices.

The first garners a lot of opposition. The second mostly just garners head shaking and a few arguing that while smoking is dangerous, smoking bans are stupid - I can live with that. But the third has a lot of old fogeys going "yeah, I totally get a headache whenever my kids call". They argue on about the same level as Elyscape's cousin, but considering they're journalists and others seem to be nodding in agreement, it infuriates me more than it should. And debunking their crap is hard work.

So, I have a follow up question here. Am I reading the implication correctly that because it is when their kids call (presumably using those wireless phones that kids love these days) they're talking on their own traditional wired phones, and that somehow their kids' phones are sending wireless cancer headache signals through the PSTN lines to them?

My Aunt posted this picture yesterday:

When a woman told my aunt that her cousin had seen him on November 10th, giving speeches in Terrytown, NY and that there were news reports and pictures of Obama in Seaside Heights, NJ, this was my aunt's reaction:

I did some quick Googling and pointed out that the picture used is from 2009, and that the most recent news article I can find about Obama playing golf indicates that he did indeed play golf over the weekend, but that it was in Maryland, and was the first time he engaged in any sort of leisure activity for over three months. I also pointed out that FEMA and other federal agencies and nonprofits are working around the clock to get things restored, and that unless she was saying that he should get out there, roll up his sleeves, and work with these agencies until all the damage had been repaired, ignoring his actual job, then she should probably let him have his 4 hours off.

I'll be surprised if she actually comes to my wedding after that.

I still find it amazing that people manage to attempt to snipe at Obama for taking any sort of vacation time, considering that the previous president has actually taken more vacation time than any other president, hell he managed to beat Franklin D Roosevelt, and that guy was in office 12 years. Drives me batty.

I have a very similar situation, actually. My favorite uncle has been the one to mediate between me and my family for a lot of issues over the past couple of years, including helping me learn to deal with my depression when various therapists failed. Then he engages me in Facebook chat at two in the morning about some fringe Republican candidate and why he's the true solution to all of 'Murica's problems, and, well...let's just say I'm keeping Aaron from meeting this particular fellow for a while yet. >.<

It's kind of amazing how many of the ridiculous charges leveled at Obama actually apply to Bush. Mishandling a hurricane? Taking time off? Creating a massive deficit and destroying the economy? Serious questions about the legitimacy of his election win? Those are all the last guy, not the current guy. But y'know, secrat muslin.
