By this logic, not having children is tantamount to murder, because that's a potential life that you are not actively working to create and by this particular worldview, that qualifies as murder. I've actually had people try and argue that viewpoint from religious grounds, and it's not too different from the whole "we must preserve the race!" which makes me think "...why? It's an archaic concept that isn't necessary anymore, if it ever really was. Evolve past it."

Fine points and all, but both of these ignore a somewhat more intrinsic flaw in the statement, which is that the Mayan calendar says no such goddam thing.

I want to go around and post, to every site on the internet that claims that the Mayan calendar says the world will end on the 21st December 2012, that the only thing the Mayan calendar says will end on the 21st December 2012 is the Mayan calendar.

Whenever someone shites on about the Mayan calendar predicting the end of the world in 2012, I usually grab hold of the nearest calendar, skip to the end and say 'by God, you're right! This calendar doesn't have anything after December 2012 either!'
