The Sequel Which Doesn't Matter - Phantasmagoria 2!

Okeee :D home from work, time for more gaming ^_^


I call Trevor and Joss, but really nothing is said. They're both just hanging in there, I guess.


I go visit Trevor and we have a nice little chuckle about how funny it was to see the cop chew Warmer out.


I apologize to Joss for being such a douche yesterday, but tactfully don't mention Therese. Let's go see what the little nympho is up to!


Therese marvels at how Curtis will think of her "every time you feel THOSE bruises." @_@ When we click on her again, she goes all creepy and leaps at Curtis, ripping his shirt & flesh with her nails. Curtis snaps out of it and Therese tells him to switch to decaf lol.


I go talk to Joss again. She says that she tried to call last night but it just kept ringing. Curtis lies to her, telling her that he took a sleeping pill and unplugged the phone... Yeah... Not quite...

I go to listen in at the door to Warner's office and hear that he's still getting bitched at by the detective. Gooood >:3


I go talk to Trevor again. Apparently his date from last night was kind of a douche. He spent the whole nite picking apart Bella Lugosi's acting, and that's not a cool thing for ANYone to do -.-


Curtis confides in Trevor that he couldn't care less about Bob yesterday, but today he can't stop thinking about it. He tells Trevor he talked to the shrink about Bob, and that he'll be going to back to see her today. News to me, but I'll see if I can squeeze it into my busy schedule.

We go to listen at the door again and this time we hear Ted telling Warner that he's going to be fired because he's so out of line.


Halfway through their screaming match, Paul yells at Ted "you're dead!" and then Curtis gets a hallucination of Paul yelling at Curtis's Dad, telling him the same thing.


Then Curtis passes out and we wake up here... Yeeey...?

I click on all the funny little freaks in the asylum.


Yep... Pretty funny faces you're makin there...


Wait... is that Harriet the Gnome from Phantas 1???

The nurse tells us 'shut up, freak! If you keep messing with that, I'll have you sedated."

Curtis sets off a Rube Goldberg-style scene by kicking the ball from the 2 weirdos sitting in front of him.

To the Dreaming Tree with Trev :D He's so totally my favorite character ^_^


We tease him about drinking a shake and not watching his tiny waistline, and then he tells us an amazing story about his aunt from Nevada who used to throw her leftovers out the window for the critters who lived by her house. One day, she threw a baked potato out the window and pegged a bunny rabbit xD Good going, Auntie! Just when I was starting to forget about the horrors of this game, Trev says he's got a date with someone smart and funny and blah blah blah,point of the conversation si he's LEAVING US :C

Ah, Phantasmagoria 2, a Puzzle of Flesh.

I remember it well.

And you know, between the production values, set designs, and the nineties feel of the whole thing, it always seemed like one of the kids from the Midnight Society got really dark and told a story about adults for a change.

"Presented for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story... the tale of Curtis' freak-out."

I go home and take out the box again.

To the doctor's!


Let's tell Dr. Harburg all about what's been going on lately.


Curtis reads the letter to her and asks if she thinks his dad sounds crazy. She says no, that he sounds very logical.

We tell the doctor about getting Curtis's navel pierced on his date. He says that he felt the desire to be controlled by Therese and have her do things to him... Hawt... ;3 He tells her about boning in the bathroom, too. At least he's open with his psych :P I have a Dawwww moment when I realize he's bi and poly, just like me! I want to give him a hug!
He tells the doctor that he wants to live with both Joss and Trevor far away where everyone couldn't judge them.

Wait... not that Doctor...


Curtis tells her how his dad tried to protect him from his mom, but didn't try hard enough. :C Poor, sad Curtis.


He then tells her that he thinks Threshold is big and evil and scary. The doctor tells him not to confuse imagination with 'evidence.'


He then tells her that his mom used to torture him, not just humiliate him.


When the doc asks how, Curtis clams up and makes this face... The doc tells him to relax, that the horror's over, that he survived. If she only knew what is to come...


Curtis tells her that he thinks that he was the one who killed Bob, even though he doesn't remember it. She tries to assure him that homicidal blackouts are highly rare and unlikely.


I ask her about the letter again, and she says that insanity can run in families, if it's chemical.


Curtis recalls suddenly that his father was murdered, a memory he had suppressed until now.


He says that after they hit him with the car, they got out and shot him. It was the first time he'd ever seen a dead man before.... It probably won't be the last... Just sayin... The doctor says that now that he's brought this suppressed memory at the surface, he should start improving now.


She says she wants to see us next week, but we should call if anything happens. When Curtis walks out, the doctor speaks into her recorder. She says that Curtis is delusional, possibly paranoid, and has the potential for violence. Way to lie to mah face, beech!

Well, it's 1:30 am, so I'm off to bed. Probably more tomorrow ^-^

Way to ignore evidence doctor. I hope your license gets pulled.

Ok, got time for 1 or 2 more updates before I gotta head home. I have some delusions of finishing this game today or tomorrow... We'll see...

After leaving the Dreaming Tree, I head over to the nightclub again. They let me in without whining this time - yeeey :D



The only people here is this guy and his gf, who insult Curtis. Dipshits.

Maybe... Not cool... Well... Kind of cool.. Depending... I love how Curtis goes "I'm not so sure about this, Therese!" but only AFTER he's been suspended form the ceiling... Like, wouldn't you say something BEFORE you were this far in? And another thing, WHY do you have the hooks all set up in your ceiling for suspensions if you claim to be such a vanilla boy??? -.- I disbelieve you...


But it doesn't matter, because Therese won't let him talk without hitting him, so we may never know...


And suddenly Curtis's dad is there, in zombie form, telling him he's a good boy... >.> dafuq?

Turns out he's writing a letter of condemnation about Paul in an attempt to get him fired.GO TED! I didn't like you at first, but now I'm totally digging your style!


His computer fritzes out, so he crawls under the desk to poke at the wires. Were there REALLY that many wires on old computers? Yeesh!


Uh oh... Ted's getting attacked by the invisible entity again...

Pretty sure that Curtis's scrawny arms couldn't lift that sledge hammer that high if he tried...

Curtis tells her that he was with Therese last night... As if you couldn't tell by all the scratches and lipstick on his chest...


Then a creepy thing starts to push the the ceiling.... Neat..? In any case, it definitely makes Curtis act cagey and suspicious...


She demands to know where Therese went when she left, but Curtis say that he doesn't know where she lives. The detective is a total bitch and goes "oh, you don't know where your own GIRLFRIEND lives???" and when Curtis insists that they're not dating, she goes, "Oh, you must be pretty good FRIENDS then..." It makes. Me want. To hit her. Apparently she doesn't believe in friends with benefits, one night stands, or people who just started dating and haven't gotten to the 'where do you live?' stage in their relationships :P She asks if there's anyone who was mad at Ted and Curtis mentions the fight that Paul had with him the day before.


She goes off on him about how there's something wrong with him but she just can't prove it. Then a big weird thing tries to push through the ceiling above here again. Way to be observant, detective! -.-


Take her. Just pick her up and pull her through the damn ceiling! Do us all a favor! -.- Unfortunately, it doesn't. Curtis starts crying so she storms out in a huff. Stupid beech, of COURSE he's freaking out, he's just found out that 2 people got murdered at his work, one of which was kind of a cool guy.

Ok, I gotta head home, but I'll try to finish up this chapter tonight after school :3

OK! Still have some delusions of getting chapter 4 finished tonight, so let's go!


After the police lady leaves, I call Dr. Failface to make an appointment at 3pm. Since there's no clocks in this game, I'm going to assume that's later on.

So time to check the mail. Oooh, an invite from Therese to the club again.


It's a letter from mommy dearest! "Dear Curtis, I hate you. You killed me. I should have killed you when I had the chance. I'm coming back for you, and this time I'm taking you with me!"



He crumples up the note, but then it turns into a crumpled eyeball. Eeeew. (spoiler warnings for the faint of heart)

In the theme of this game, LOL JK - Curtis is just crayzeh!


I decide to go to work, but Mrs. Grumpy Pants just wants to argue :c

Tom doesn't look very good either... And why have I been calling him "Ted" this hole time? *fail* I guess I'll go get some food until it's time for the appointment.


Well, Trev sure does know how to drown his sorrows ^_^ He tells Curtis to get out of dodge before the next murder, but Curt says that he HAS to figure out what's going on with Wyntech and Threshold. Trev caves and even offers to hack into the network from home to see what he can find. But... But I don't want him to... :C Trev, you're my BFF! Don't do it! Don't put yourself on the hit list!


In better news, Trev's date went well. They watched Reservoir Dogs and laughed at all the same places... Dawwwww... Trev shoves the sundae toward Curtis telling him to 'eat something, before a stiff breeze blows you away, Scarecrow boy.' Curtis's response? Put pepper on it and dig in... DAFUQ!?

At the doctor's office, she says she heard about Tom. Curtis gets all paranoid, thinking that Wyntech's checking up on him or something. She tries to assure him that it was just the detective, but that if Curtis is having hallucinations or delusions, she needs to tell him so that she can help get him checked into the hospital for observation. Curtis slaps something off the table and storms out.


She notes to herself that Curtis had a 'psychotic episode, marked with severe paranoia and anger.' Useful, amirite?




At home, Joss comes over.


Aaaand Curtis pisses her off.


And... Then... They make out...?




Aaaaand then Joss sees the scratches and bruises on his chest and then storms out.




Hey, she left a hairpin ^_^ ALL horror games have a puzzle that can ONLY be solved with GF's hairpin!


I know! Let's break in to Warner's office so he has MORE reasons to kill us! :D


He's installed a lock on his drawer, but that's no match for us >:3


We 'borrow' his codes book.


Pretty sure that'll be a password for something later...

We also filched a copy of a speech that good ol' Paul was planning to deliver to the unsuspecting populous. Huh. I'm pretty sure that there's something important there. Good thing Mr. Warner oh-so-helpfully highlights all the important parts.


I decide to snoop in the computer and check my email for word from Trev. He's given us the password we need to up our security clearance :D


I do so, and the computer gets all eyeball-y on me...


Curtis reacts appropriately. I go ahead and up his security to 3 anyway.


It's time for adventure, kids! :D


To the mysterious lower levels we go!



Not surprisingly, we're greeted with a hallucination almost immediately. This one features Curtis's father and some sporty steampunk goggles


As well as Curtis himself, in chibi form! Curtis shrugs it off like a big boy.

Curtis finds a straight jacket. That's a rather odd thing to keep in the basement.


MOAR HALLUCINATIONSZZZZZ!!!1111 Apparently Warner is taking psychopaths and bringing them to look at... Whatever they're looking at... But they keep dying.


Deeper into the belly of the beast, we find our good old trust toy truck.


And predictably again, another hallucination. Or are these memories, perhaps...? In this one, young Curtis is grabbed by Paul.


Then we flash to Curtis's Dad, holding a bundle and crying... We can only assume that this is young Curtis.


Using the date that the Threshold project started, we break into yet another room, and this one looks MUCH more fun >:3


Well, obvious solution is obvious, let's play with stuff!


We chat with the computer for a while... And then we see a flashy red light by a card reader. Let's check it out! Wait... Why do they need X.anax and Monostat to create whatever it is that Paul wants...? Are we sure this is nefarious? Are we sure it's not... STUPID...?


I forget... Are flashing red lights and sirens good or bad...?


Nope... Not a good thing... I was chased down by doctors and taken back to the mental institution... Where I can only assume that... I... Died...? Somehow..? Whatevs, time to hop back in my time machine (aka, load an older save) and try to resist the flashy red card reader ;3

Oh, And fittingly.... Happy 400th screencap....

I decide to visit... well... the only girlfriend Curtis has got at this point.

Well, good morning, sunshine!


Poor, unsuspecting Curtis tells the truth about where he was last night - putting him right there, at the scene of the crime... *sigh*


The office goes on and on about how he is the killer and should just give himself up, blah blah blah...

Curtis finally kicks her out.


I check the mirror.... Curtis... Red's not really your color....


Curtis gets a letter about the cursor in the game... That's interesting...








And then... The ripped up bits of paper get all zappy and then disappear. Cool...?

Time to call the doctor again! Curtis sounds... well, stark raving mad, to be honest.


Not surprisingly, the doctor tells the receptionist to have security ready in case she needs to call them.


But then the phone makes a funny noise....

Before Dr. Harburg can finish the words 'Oh Curtis, you were right!' The lights go out and Dr. Harburg hears the evil Dr. Marek's voiceover, "HE'S MINE!" Tres creepy, no?


Curtis arrives at her office, but it's not business as usual...


Well, that's no good....


The phone screams at Curtis... In Dr. Harburg's voice... Also not good....

Whatever this guy is congratulates Curtis on his good job well done, explaining to him that he doesn't have to actually BE somewhere to murder someone, he just uses his twisted, diseased mind. Cool! Think about Warner. REAL hard. Do it, Curtis.

Of course, the security guard doesn't see what Curtis sees...


Not very convincing... His hand's shaking...


When the guard looks away, Curtis shoves him down next to good ol' Ms. Harburg and runs out the door. Go, Curtis! GO!


At work, Curtis's computer tells him he should just give it up and go to the asylum.


Let's check out Mr Bob's cube next. I didn't get the screen cap quick enough, but we get to see another flash of Bob's murder in his computer screen.

So we've got an Edward Gein and a Peter Sutcliffe working in the Donner building? Who are they going to hire next? Lizzy Bathory? Jeff Dahmer?

But first, we gotta talk to Trevor. He tells us that he gave himself top clearance as well and saw the secrets behind Wyntech, their illegal drug manufacturing, the murders, and more, and he wants to go to the cops too, but Curtis has got to stay out of it.

I clicked on my friend, and then this guy appeared...


Obvious solution? Throw the computer at it! Apparently Curtis has some muscles in those scrawny little arms!


So time to loot corpses :D Trevor has higher security clearance than even Curtis, so this could be fun...


We head back down to the underground computer room - brace for more hallucinatory memories!


More conversing with what I can only assume are interdemensional beings of some sort, and they invite Paul (aka, US posing in Paul's place) to come over for tea. Cool :D


I try Trev's card on the reader this time - no use getting killed the same way twice!


Huh, another puzzle... I bet it's the pic we printed out!


Bingo!


Don't go into the light, Curtis! Don't go into the liiiiight! The light, still apparently unaware that it is NOT Paul who came over for tea, tells us that they were still unable to make whatever synthetic compound Warner wanted from them.







That's... Not our favorite human... >.>;;; But hey, like all horror movie villains, he at least explains the plot to us! Apparently they've oh-so-creatively named the creatures 'creatures from dimension x' in typical Bugs Bunny fashion. He admits to killing Curtis's father, because he wasn't able to handle sacrificing human subjects for valuable research. He explains that Curtis isn't really a human - the REAL Curtis was thrown into Dimension X by Warner a long time ago. The 'aliens' from the other dimension threw out this Curtis, our main character, a sort of 'imitation human,' a 'Curtis with a K,' if you will.


Curtis's dad believed the lie that Warner told about Curtis being the 'real Curtis' who had a terrible accident, but Kurtis with a K started to remember his alien heritage a year ago, and so he had to be hospitalized by the evil Dr. Marek for observation.

Just when Curtis was starting to ask some really juicy questions about the thus-far hidden plot of this game, the weird thing appears again and backhands Warner. From the makers of 'Touched by an Angel' comes 'Bitch-Slapped by an Alien.'


Or... not... This thing introduces himself as Curtis - the REAL Curtis! - and explains that he's been biding his time and growing his power so that he can snuff out this fakey Kurtis with a K! MUAHAHHAHAHAHA!


He holds up the creepy, severed head of dear old mom and tries to zap us with it. Spoiler tags, cuz it's a little icky.

Dammit... Fire up the Tardis, we gotta go back in time... AGAIN... -.-

OK! Take 2! This time, when Curtis got zapped, I clicked the console with all the buttons and he pushed one. Apparently it was the right one, because he got to run into this swirly thingy. Hey, it's better than being zapped to death!


We get spit out the other side in this strange world made entirely of crappy CG.



I grab some of the brown slime from that pipe. Cuz hey, why not?



Let's see what this weird alien dimension has to offer >:3 Well, besides weird brown slime, I mean.


This guy looks... useful...?

Now I think Curtis is just picking shit up and putting it in his pockets... Weirdo...

Through process of elimination (read: wander around and trying random shit), I have managed to distract one of these little guys here.


Before I could observe it too much, Curtis put it in his picket with all the other weird crap...

So stumped again, and then I remembered you could combine stuff together in this game.



Randomly clicking around with the crazy new hybrid alien thingy brought me to this... A hole... In the crazy glowy thingy... >.>;; Curtis... Walks on in. Cuz hey, what else can ya do?


Aaaand the hole closes behind him.


Poking the glowing green column makes Curtis disappear too, just like those little flying guys.


Which spits us out by this tunnel...


Which leads to even more, even creepier CG scenery...


May as well check out that thing....





We get zapped, AGAIN.


And wake up in the mental hospital, AGAIN

Curtis begs for his life while Dr. Marek seems to enjoy looking at the shiny scalpel... K...

*deep breath* Ok... This time around, Curtis grabs the syringe off the table. Why does nobody think to tie his hands down again?


When he stabs Dr. Marek with the syringe, we are transported to the Dreaming Tree, where Joss is confessing her undying love to Curtis, even though he's been cheating on her with Therese...



But... Then she pulls a gun on him...>.>;;;


Using his brain, and his superior (yet mostly invisible) manly muscles, he wrestles the gun away from her.




For the love of all things cute and fuzzy, where are we NOW!?


Oh, it's Wyntech's basement... But it looks kinda... Not good...


Creepy Trevor is creepy....

OK! This time, I grab the key card from the floor and run for the elevator.


Zombie Therese is SHOCKINGLY bad in bed...


Curtis shoves her off...


And then we're transported here... Oh dear...


But hey, mom-monster just wants a hug. That was easy...


lol jk, it was all in our head - AGAIN.


But Curtis has conquered his fears - he makes quick work of zombie-Curtis!


Zombie Curtis leaves an icky puddle when he dies, which Kurtis with a K happily pockets.


By combining the alien slime stuff from before with the Curtisy-goo stuff from just now, we get... Um... This... >.>;;

So that's probably not good... I don't think the innards of that pipe is supposed to be all... Out...


We'll just put the Curtis-goop on it. That should fix it, right?



So... This little alien glowy-thingy is sorta similar to these glowing lights on this portal thingy... Let's just shove one in there and see what happens...

So, 3 tries and 1 walkthrough later, I finally got it! :D

Wait, wtf is Joss doing here...?


She says she knows what Curtis is... Why...? HOW??


We don't get an explanation. What we DO have, is a choice to make...


Basically, if we click Joss, we remain a human in human land. If we click the swirly thingy, we go be our true, alien-y self. Instead of giving you a choice, I'm going to throw democracy out the window and just do both :P


So I click Joss and we flash to the Dreaming Tree - which is apparently the ONLY diner in this town. This couple is walking around going 'omg, can you believe that Warner killed ALL those PEOPLE!? D:'


We then flip over to Curtis & Joss. Curtis is sitting there silently while Joss talks incessantly about how OMG FUN their vacation is gonna be.


The camera pans under the table and we see Curtis's hand... Turn into an alien stump... Interesting...

When I click the swirly thingy, Curtis gives Joss a hug. Dawwwww....


They see Paul, still alive...


A day later...


Joss is crying... For some reason...


ROLL CREDITS!

After the credits, we get this super secret (kinda gruesome) scene.

That must be what they did with Paul during that 24 hours... Still no idea why Joss was crying...

So, that's it! That's the end... Yeah, I know, it doesn't make sense, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the original game, but hey, I enjoyed it :3 Except for that ending puzzle, I didn't have to use a walkthrough, which gives me the illusion of feeling smart ^_^

Thank you for this LP, I enjoyed it! This game isn't as good as the first one in my opinion, it really doesn't make that much sense... but hey, Trevor was cute XD

Yeah, that's kinda where I was at too lol. Good game, but not REALLY a Phantas one. I think that "Threshold" would have been a better title, and then just not worry about trying to link it to the (small) success of the first game, just go on the fact that you're SIERRA and people KNOW YOU. *sigh* But hey, nobody consults me on the important things. I'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^

Thank you for the LP! I remember really liking this game when it came back; myself and my upstairs neighbor formed a Sierra Tag Team, and played through the first two Gabriel Knights and both Phantasmagorias together. We cheered like crazy when it looked like Trevor and Curtis were going to have lovin's, only to be devastated when poor Trevor died. I always thought it was a really good game that kinda devolved into chaos and WTF at the end.
