My experience some 20 years ago wrestling was that all scales are like that, and by leaning slightly forward you could try to game the scale. Of course the wrestlers were all on to this and you couldn't get away with it in practice.

Anyway, use the heavier reading. If you think about it that's obviously the correct one (barring some malfunction).

Pretty sure you should be resting your weight on your heels. The scale is supposed to tell you if you're standing wrong, though.

And re: celery birthday: Eff that, I had 2 cupcakes on my birthday, which gave me the yum of birthday cake without the ohnoes of an entire cake.

You know, club sandwiches are a lot healthier when you don't get to eat the bacon. I ordered it with bacon, but when I got it home and sat down to eat it I was immediately surrounded by three cats.

I didn't need the bacon anyway. Spoiled little brats.

My DDR pad is on it's last arrow. Up rarely responds, left is mistaken as X, down responds more often than up, but not nearly enough for it to count. Right is the only fully-functioning arrow left. This is kind of devastating, considering how much I depended on DDR to do exercise.
Because of the times where my mother used the dance pad (+270 lbs + frantically flailing feet + not-that-sturdy plastic mat = NOPE), little tears were made on the underside of the pad. Even though I tried taping them together, they got worse and worse with time.

    i just.
    i'm so sad i'm crying.

a moment of silence for DDR dance pad, please.

My Omrom is extremely accurrate no matter how I stand on it. The consistency between two weigh-ins next to each other is within a fifth of a pound.

I started posting here exactly 1 year ago today and I have now hit my target weight!
This is mostly exciting due to my body's most excellent sense of timing.
I feel healthier than at any point during my life and Dan says that I seem much less miserable than I used to be (although I think that's partly due to some changes at work). I can now run for the bus without feeling like I'm going to die. I feel like I'm eating more than I ever used to as well, which is awesome. I still think I've got a bit too much fat on me, but I'm now happy to stay the same weight while trying to build a bit of muscle.
I'm down 52lb and 3 dress sizes. I couldn't have done it without all the support on here and MFP - thanks guys.

Still stuck at the same weight this week, which is starting to annoy me, as it's been more or less a month now stuck on this plateau. Having to eat takeout last night due to the water being off can't have helped.

I went for a walk today! As I am so utterly out of shape, I set my Nike+ to time it for 45 minutes. I guess I missed the 22 minute halfway queue and ended up being out for just over an hour. I've also been going for short walks during my lunch break at work. Unfortunately half an hour isn't quite long enough for a decent walk plus time to eat lunch. But it's still better than nothing.

I really need to get back on this portion control business. I'm doing fine on cutting out snacks (no hangovers to deal with this week.) When I go for my main meal though I always make too much. I eat it and half an hour later realise I've eaten too much. Food is tasty though, so I want a bit of everything.

My scaled budged a couple of days ago, after spending way too long on the same weight. What a relief, so I know where you're coming from.

I'm still really watching what I eat. As I mentioned up thread, I have been following the 17 day diet. My sister and mother are doing the same, so we keep in contact with each other. My sister was the one who started us on this, since she had a health scare over the summer. Weight loss would prevent what she potentially had, and the PA told her that she should check out this diet, as she likes vegetables. As I said, it's basically a low carb diet, and over time adds carbs back in, but low glycemic carbs, and looks at portion control.

That said, once I hit 35 lbs lost, I'm going to take a day off and have myself a beer, and probably a dessert, too. Then I'll spend a couple of really strict days before going on.

Still using MFP every day, and coming in well under my limit. When I went to the grocery I didn't buy myself any ice cream at all, just sugar-free pudding and some Greek yogurt. Got lots of other healthy stuff, too, and no frozen dinners. Yay!

I realized the reason MFP was freaking me out so much was because of the red numbers that happen when you go over something. So even if I only ate 1201 calories in a day, that red would make me freak out.
So what I did was I re-checked my goal. Wow, okay, two pounds a week isn't happening come on.

After setting it to one pound a week, I SUDDENLY GOT LIKE 500 EXTRA CALORIES TO EAT EVERY DAY? I probably won't eat all of it (1700 is an incredibly daunting number), but at least I won't end up tipping into the red like I was before. C:

If you're going to do a lot of DDR, I highly recommend investing in a better pad, or making a new one. Those stock pads that the games come with are crap and pretty much designed to break. I have a foam filled Red Octane Ignition pad that I've used for years, and it's stood up well to my husband using it (and he used to use it pretty much every day for at least 30 minutes at a time, on heavy, and he's like 200lbs+). I'd recommend the universal pads, since they can plug into different sytems and a PC as well, which lets you use it with Stepmania and find all the custom songs you can handle.

If you want to go the route of making one, there's hundreds of tutorials around for making one either out of a crappy pad or a regular controller.
  19. MulMizu Sassy Black Woman

T-the one that's broken is a Red Octane pad. Lots and lots and lots of rips along the thin fabric that's on the top of the pad (basically the layer that's exposed when you unzip it). Essentially, the fabric has gotten loose from the edges and it's just...it's a mess.

Conversely, the pad that came with my game back in like 2000 is doing rather well. Probably because I haven't used it as much, but hey. unfortunately, using it puts me at risk of slipping backwards and smacking my head on something dangerous.

Huh. I suppose someone playing and not really knowing what they're doing (ie your mom) can make a huge difference in the life of a pad. :/

Well, you could scrap it for parts and make a better pad out of it? I know I saw instructions once for how to make a wooden pad using an old DDR pad, I'd just have to find it.

I've been ill for 2 weeks which helped me break through my plateau: I lost 2 pounds in that time. I'll be taking it easy next week to fully get over this nasty flu bug, I don't quite feel up to exercising just yet. But I'm delighted with the loss!

Last night I ate a couple of pieces of Pizza Hut thin crust pizza. (Came in under my calorie limit, still.) Ewwwww. It was like eating cardboard with a couple of mushrooms on top. Just...no. This was the first time we'd had pizza delivered in almost a year, and it's going to be the last for a while.

Oy I just weighed myself and I've gained ten pounds over the past couple of months. Not a suprise really; I've been eating like shit: too much snacking, too much beer. I guess this means I'm back on the weight loss wagon!

Wish I'd waited 'til after the Super Bowl to weigh myself though; now I'm conflicted about whether or not I want to have a burger or not tonight!

Went for my first for-exercise walk in a year. I figured out a half-hour route through my neighborhood and did that once. Next time I'll do twice if I can find my unused running shoes. The pair I wore today have kind of crapped out, so I need the new ones.

One of the big things I learned in this process is the answer to a question many people have: "Why isn't that guy wearing a shirt?"

He's not wearing a shirt because he looks good without one on. Barring some serious genetic luck, that probably didn't happen without at least a decent bit of effort. He's just showing off his results. That's not to say he shouldn't put a damn shirt on, but at least I kind of understand it now.

I learned pretty quickly that gaining a bit of muscle mass and looking good without a shirt on has the potential to turn even a humble man into an uncontrollable mirror-seeking ego monster. Looking good feels good, and there's a dangerous feedback loop that too many guys fall into (read: DO YOU EVEN LIFT, BRO?).

From the point where I was allowed to decide for myself what to wear/not wear, I think I can count the amount of times I've been shirtless in public on one hand. Maybe two. If I ever develop bulging muscle I'll probably start wearing shapeless sweaters to hide 'em. I'm intensely uncomfortable with the idea of people seeing me in any way unclothed.

I'm officially down 30 lbs from when I started. This is good. I'm doing the 17 day diet cycles, and this next cycle is the "Achieve" cycle. In non-cutsey terms, this is a cycle that emphasizes moderation in all things. Previous cycles cut out all starches, limited veggies (mostly cruciferous, but also mushrooms, onions, garlic, tomatoes, carrots, green beans), and emphasized 2 fruit servings and 2 probiotic servings per day. Another cycle included adding low-glycemic starches (whole grains, sweet potato, 1/2 cup corn, beans) twice per day, while expanding the meat menu from skinless poultry and tilapia to lean cuts of beef and more types of seafood. The current cycle allows for more meat choices, and pretty much any fruit and veggie. However, this cycle looks at portion control; if it's bigger than a kitchen sponge, it's bigger than a single-sized serving.

I have about 25 more pounds to go. I won't lose that weight on this cycle. If I can take another couple of pounds off, that will be fine, but I'm just as happy maintaining a steady weight. My goal is to reset my normal weight to the current one, so it's harder to gain back the weight I lost. Then, I plan on starting the cycles again.

So far, I like that I can feel that I'll get a change every couple of weeks or so.

That said, I think that I'm going to celebrate the fact that I got a new job with a beer. That'll blow the diet out of the water, but hey, it's a new job!

The coolest thing happened today. I was sitting in the den, feeling a little sad, and Runkeeper popped up a message on my iPhone. "Wouldn't now be a great time to work out? You said you've been wanting to. You should do it." Yes, RunKeeper, yes I should. So I did. Half an hour on the stationary bike while reading Ben Goldacre's new book on the pharmacological industry.

I like this. I'm going to tell RunKeeper to keep suggesting it randomly. Seems it's useful for that.
