Damn, but that beer was good!

I'm not weighing myself much this week. Besides the beer, we had other carbs at work today. I'm now in the middle of a munchie craving, and drinking water. I'll be good through the weekend, and back to Monday morning to see if I'm still stable with respect to weight. I'm in a tapering off phase, so I don't expect to lose much before I start the process over again.

Note to self: from now on, when you're feeling twitchy and restless, go ride the stationary bike. I just did that, and I feel much calmer. Brain/body win/win.

Been maintaining for a couple of weeks at 188. Not that I am complaining- I am really only looking to hit 175 over the next year or so, but, after all this dieting/weight loss, sometimes it is just a bit of a bummer to get on the scale for the weekly weigh-in and the same number. Although, I do like the number I see. I think so much of what we do here is psychological and at some point much of this work we do here is going to stop. Is it a bit of a let down? Weird.

That said, maintaining is so much nicer than actively trying to lose.

    FINALLY.

After basically being the same weight since before Christmas (more or less) I finally lost 3.2 pounds this week, bringing my total weight lost to 91 pounds. I now weigh 157 pounds.

    Congrats on the new loss!

I took the 'feed a fever' approach to my über-cold this past week. The good news is that despite this I'm pretty much exactly where I was just before getting sick and I've recovered enough to start eating sensibly again instead of consuming everything within reach (food = comfort when I have a nasty cold and I apparently needed a lot of comfort, especially cookie-shaped comfort).

To further help portion control for myself and my partner (who is working on dropping a few pounds, too) I picked up a nice digital scale for the kitchen that can measure down to 1 gram. Finally the secret evil of the salt and cracked pepper peanut shall be revealed via handy LCD readout.

i keep forgetting what a doozy some of these songs are. but i think, strangely enough, doing all of this ddr is good for me physically. when it comes to the knees, i mean. they don't hurt when i do ddr anymore (will still really ache if it gets cold enough/at complete random/if i stand for too long, but at least i can exercise without pain!! :DDDD), so I guess I can do it a little more often.

Have devoted myself to doing at least 500 calories worth if I eat anything bad (this can be something that has white flour or white sugar in it) and 100 if I'm good for the whole day. C: So at minimum, that's 700 a week and at maximum that's 3500 a week.
    AWWWW YEAAHHHH.

now if only i could get my mother to stop turning on the heater while i'm exercising i can't breathe

I've been stress eating. A lot. Tonite was a snack-stack of pringles, 2 pieces of bacon, and a mini-fritatta. That's 270 calories on top of my alcohol and the overportioned dinner I had. But fuuuuuuuck it tastes so good.

So I've put on quite a lot of weight. I have no idea how much, I don't own a scale but I don't fit in one of my pants anymore. So yeah, I'm going on a diet.

I lost 0.3 kg last week. Not much, but I hadn't gone back to exercising just yet so I'll take it! I'll start working out again next week, that should make a difference.

Felt like going for a walk. Went looking for my good pair of running shoes. Couldn't find them, so tried a different pair. 1.35 miles later and I have the start of a blister on my left heel. Fuck. MUST FIND CORRECT SHOES.

I did learn something fun and interesting, though. I always listen to fast-paced music when I walk or run, usually EBM or industrial. Today I tried Daft Punk. I went 3/4 of a mile per hour faster than my average. Coolness!
  16. Athryn Despondent Fancybear

Yeah, there are apps out there that will pick the appropriate music in your library to match the pace you want to move at.

Are they desktop apps, or would I have to run them on my iPhone? Because when I go out I like to use RunKeeper while I walk/run, and it lets me choose a playlist, but I don't think I can have it AND a pacing-music app going at once.
  18. Athryn Despondent Fancybear

I'm not familiar enough with Iphones to give an answer. I just know that there are apps out there, as one was mentioned for keeping proper pace for my long-distance hike.

My diet emphasizes lean protein and low glycemic veggies, but reducing other carbs--especially starches--to practically nothing. Last night, for example, I had spaghetti sauce made with ground turkey, mushrooms, and tomato sauce (used canned crushed tomatoes, so no added sugars of any sort). Tomatoes are on the "free" list. I am now at the point where I could add spaghetti squash to my carb list, but opted instead to serve over a plate of green beans instead. I used reduced fat parm for the cheese, which goes against the fabric of my being. I typically buy Parmesan or Romano cheeses and grate them myself. The stuff in a jar is basically salted, cheese-flavored powder.

This morning, I was down .6 lbs, so yay. Again, I don't expect to lose a lot this cycle, but it's nice to see some loss!

I had to talk my MIL out of making some last night. I have no self control with brownies, and I really don't want to eat half the pan. Although maybe ill have her make them for my birthday. I want chocolate and champagne that night.
  28. Athryn Despondent Fancybear

Yeah, I ran into that during Christmas, when I was experimenting with making yeast rolls and ate almost the entire recipe worth. I know that I could make some things and send them to work with my SO (which I may do soon for my bacon fat cookies) but it's very tempting to just have "one more."

HOWEVER! There is a good blog out there called Undressed Skeleton, where she uses some unique twists to make low calorie and single-serving versions of some desserts. I tried the single-serving coffee cake and it was pretty darn tasty.

The serving size of a brownie is a 2" square. It's simultaneously one of the most and least satisfying 2" in existence.

Herp de derp! Undressed Skeleton wasn't actually the blog I was thinking of (although it's pretty good.) The one I was *actually* thinking of was Chocolate Covered Katie.

Florida's organized-run season is about to start. (It's late February through April -- after that it's too damn hot.) A couple of years ago, when I was walking/running regularly, I did a few 5K races. I'm thinking about doing a few 5K walks this spring. It's fun to get out there and be around others and get T-shirts and swag. Frequently they're designed to raise funds for charities, and that's cool too. I wish I could run, but my body won't let me. However, I can walk 5K easy.

I wish I was still in my hometown. I used to take my niece with me to the kid-friendly ones, and I'll miss having her along.

I know that exercise has become a part of my everyday life when I feel wrong not doing it for more than a day in a row (I'll usually take a day off if I'm feeling too sore to move).

I've heard that ideally, if you do full-body workouts, you should let your body rest and recuperate inbetween. Workout every other day, rest between them. I do it myself, and it seems to be working well for me -- I've gone from being exhausted after a really low intensity 5-minute session on the elliptical to doing two 30-minute high intensity sessions of interval training on either end of my weights routine, all in the space of about a month and a bit.

    (Sorry about the possible tomfoolery)

I've heard that that's a good way to do it, but my body tends to...rebel against that. if I don't work out really frequently, my weight will come back on WITH A VENGEANCE. i'm talking like five-ish pounds in a week it's really scary.
  37. OrfBC Hard Cider Gal

That's more for weights. You shouldn't work the same muscle groups with heavy weights two days in a row, because it takes longer than a day for them to recover. I think MulMizu is having HARDCORE DDR MARATHONS, which is cardio. Funky cardio.

Yeah, you can hurt yourself overdoing weight lifting, so I don't think it's tomfoolery to get into it.

A general rule of thumb if you're at the gym everyday is to work upper body one day, then lower body the next. Gets a bit fuzzy for back and abdominal muscles though.

As OrfBC says though it doesn't really apply to cardio workouts, just your stereotypical 3 sets of 10 rep lifts.
    Hunty and OrfBC like this.
  40. Hunty Oh, Come On

Your bog standard medium-intensity cardio is fine to do every day, pretty much. Weightlifting programming is a whole different and much more complicated ballgame. And a fun one! In the appropriate thread, of course. Which languishes dusty and unused in the sports bit.
