See, I haven't made any LP's and am not quite used to the likes yet, so when I log on and i discover double digit notifications I immediately think "Fuck, did I say something really offensive?!" - but so far it's (mostly) likes.

I love that there are people here who know things.

Things like how to retrieve a saved game I thought was gone forever after putting like 12 hours into an LP on it.

Seriously, Elyscape. Thank you so, so much.
  11. Raife Magister Mundi Elyscape

Now that Elyscape is LP moderator, we can clearly see by the icon that he is on the forum 100% of the time and, indeed, a robot poorly constructed out of wood.

I am doing that and it has got to be the least-liked LP by far.

I suppose that it doesn't help that it is neither a game and will (hopefully) eventually end in real-life killing.

I like that it uses Xenforo, just like the Codex. Not that I like Xenforo in and of itself, as I absolutely despise how hard it tries to look like Facebook. I approve of the elimination of signatures, Facebook/twitter sharing, tags, gamertags, emoticons and other distracting features. The one saving grace is that it incorporates Facebook's notifications feature. That is a feature all message board software need, like right now.

Nothing is more tedious than regularly refreshing threads to see if someone else replied to you. With this you just save so much time.

I used to think I was kind of a snob about various things - coffee, beer, literature, and so on. Then I met you guys and learned what real snobbery looks like. :)
  20. U.S. Millie Elitist Negative Nancy

There's being a snob about something and then there's liking the best of something. I regularly drink one of the world's best beers (officially) but there's still a time and a place for everyday regular beers. Same goes for coffee. I drink really good coffee sometimes, and generally I drink quite good bean-to-cup coffee but I still don't mind having a cup of instant when it's what's available to me.

I know you didn't mean it like this, but people getting annoyed at others liking high quality things is just a form of reverse-snobbery.

Snob test: Did observing other snobs make you scoff, or did it make you want to up your snob factor and hate more things too?

I'm referring to the latter. Substitute "connoisseur" for "snob" if you prefer. (I deliberately file this under the 'things you like about BF' heading.)

Oh, the latter, absolutely. I've realized my own snobbery is in many cases completely insufficient. Not the hating on things, though. For example, beers. I like "good" beer, and I know a bit about it, but then someone like RyanMM produces beers I've never even heard of and has erudite things to say about all of them.

By the way, I'd go even further than Millie and say that I don't consider having refined taste in food or entertainment to be snobbery. I understand why others interpret it that way; if I'm sitting with a bunch of hockey dads drinking Molson Canadian and I start saying: "Canadian? Fuck that shit. Pabst Blue Ribbon!" they might certainly (and rightly) think I'm trying to say I'm better than them, even though I'm just stating a preference. Part of having refined taste is learning to express your opinion without making it seem like you're judging other people for not sharing your refined taste.

I have a relative who is truly a snob though, in the worst way -- judging others based on their appearance. Anyone riding a motorcycle is a drug dealer. Anyone driving a snowmobile is a drunk driver. etc. Her lack of awareness of her own attitudes is what seems truly snobby.
  24. U.S. Millie Elitist Negative Nancy

That's what I said isn't it? You can be a snob about like the good quality stuff, or you can be a down-to-earth person while still liking the good stuff. And you can like the good stuff and still realise that the "crappy" or everyday stuff still has it's place.

I mean I rarely drink lagers when given a choice any more. But if it's hot day, with the sun pelting down, a nice honey-citrus lager goes down a treat. It has its place.

It's the drama thread, and I can llama if I want to:

Fuck me I try to read discussions sometimes Over There when our thread is boring and/or slow (Fallen Enchantress, the new King's Bounty game, etc) and I make it like a page or two at a time before I can't stand the idiocy on display any more. The ability of a few loud morons to shit up the threads I'd otherwise like to read is truly impressive.

The armchair designer shit in the FE thread in particular is maddening. I mean, it's not like the game is above reproach or doesn't have some questionable design decisions, but a page-long dissertation about how it doesn't have kittens and rainbows is neither useful nor interesting.
