Bryce, I fucking love you man.
While I would like to quote your entire, beautiful post, I will limit myself to just a couple of parts.
Thank you! All of you are awesome too.
I hadn't really thought about suggesting it until you said that, but I did in fact mention it in one of the LP threads and now there is another addition to the PC/Console forum. This may work yet.
Muahahaha, it has begun! I'll be interested to see how this little experiment plays out. This place needs a little shaking up, I think.
My blushes, to everyone that yet recognizes this username. Tryna not to derail thread too much so yes hello lovelies <3 Nothing terrible happened, I'm just too easily seduced by the lifestyle of the hermitlike. And boring stuff.
We're all enthusiastically invested and perhaps a bit obsessive about things here. I personally am not going to kink shame anyone but this is a community and everyone's not going to mesh. That shouldn't stop people from being themselves and taking the full measure of this lovely experience however. And there's an ignore list if differences are too great or sommat. Honestly, I'm just surprised at the lack of happy flailing orgies. Seriously guys, I am almost disappoint.
(Also, as someone rather weird who kind of made BF at odds for how to proceed way back in the day (hohoho what nostalgic memories this summons up) I can say that it's scary this simple human interaction thing but you just have to stick to your guns and make it understood that you're here and here to stay. Forever, until everyone falls in love and beyond if need be. Mwohohohoho~ )
That good enough for ya?
Seriously, Soli, I missed ya... hell, it's safe to say we all did. It's good to see ya back.
Well all I can say is I'm glad us blue eyes are dominant. I'd hate to hear that I'm a whiteaboo who needs to integrate!
So, I'm not an expert but I want to say something about how I experience this whole "LP and the rest of the forum thing". I was actually linked here by Cracked in May. At first I stayed in the LP forum but I also liked to read the Game discussion threads*. I lurked for a while to feel out the community (well that sounds weird but you know what I mean). Honestly, I was a little put off by some of the reactions to the LP subforum. I get that the more weirder things tend to happen there and the fact that it needed an NC 17 rating didn't help. However, it doesn't mean that when spammy shit happens it needs to be 'blamed' on the LP forum (which did happen in that thread). I've seen other stuff and I can't remember it exactly, but I think almost everybody can think of an example.
The other non-gaming subforums (fora?) finally convinced me to get an account and I do really like the community. But I suspect I'm not the only one who felt a little uncomfortable at some comments at first. Some people might be put off going outside their comfortzone all together. I get that there are probably some who don't want to 'leave' the LP forum, but I'm just saying some might, but are frightened off it by some posts.
*I tend not to post in either now that I have an account, a bad habit from my lurker-days. I should really do something about that, but I enjoy reading about games more than writing about it.
Things I Like About Being Broken:
So I am running a 4e Dungeons and Dragons game set in the world of Greyhawk. One of the semi-prominent characters in the setting's history is a crazy warlord named Lum the Mad, from whence our benevolent overlord gained his handle. In trying to prep some backstory for the upcoming gaming sessions, I typed "Lum the Mad" into Google.
The Greyhawk NPC is the #4 entry. #1 is "our" Lum's wikipedia entry.
Is there a word for when a borrowed nickname becomes more popular than its source? I'll bet German has a word for it.
Your D&D group has its own wiki? That's awesome! I wish I had that back when I played. Now I just wish I had a group or friends.
No, as in BrokenForum's Lum.
Not only a word for that phenomenon, but words for the ineffable feeling that the borrower of the nickname has when reflecting upon his/her ascension over the original bearer whilst gazing stonily at a sunset in Bavaria.
It's most likely a compound word that roughly translates to "name-that-is-not-real-name-from-somewhere-else-but-is-more-known-than-name-that-is-not-real-name-from-somewhere-else-from-somewhere-else".
Deutsch, you just can't explain it.
The longest German compound word ever used in actual print:
Which as a single word refers to "an association for subordinate officials of the head office management of the Danube steamboat electrical services" and breaks down as follows:
And you know if they'll print something that insane, what linguistic thought-crime abominations might be lurking in their hearts and minds?
is mind My of full fuck.
Can I play too?
Nordostersjökustartilleriflygspaningssimulatoranläggningsmaterielunderhållsuppföljningssystemdiskussionsinläggsförberedelsearbeten is supposedly the longest printed swedish word but the origins are a bit apocryphal. From the context it stems from a military memo but I've never been able to track an actual source so maybe it's just a folktale.
That feature for ignoring certain subforums on the what's new page is absolutely incredible. Every forum should have that.
TELL ME HOW.
Jesus, just saying "blah blah history repeats itself" is no excuse to kick off the CyLPon suppression! Don't you know what those "people" are capable of?
HINT: THERE ARE MORE THAN 12 OF THEM.
I'm weeping with joy
HOLY FUCKING SHIT THANK YOU
1) I love that Lum really did give Dan Lawrence his very own custom title stemming from Dan's excellent post in the Warsaw ghetto thread.
b) I also love that that post holds some kind of record due to gaining over 60 Likes.
BF: You're doin it right.
Dan Lawrence also revealed the existence of the Great Book of Grudges. For that, I'm adding another entry into the GBoG.
...BF is secretly Mean Girls with the Burn Book and I'm pretty much damaging internal organs from all this suppressed laughter. Excuse me. Off to die in peace.
Much as I'd love to claim that title it's not even close to the most on a single post, I'm not sure what is but I recalled this one from memory and dug it out:
Also awesomest first post in the history of first posts. Mine was probably a lame joke or a 'Hi, my name is...' introductory post...
And then he swept back off into the shadows after 22 posts. :(
Theodotus where are you? We crave your wisdom!
And he misspelled "weird."
Out of curiosity I went back and looked to see what my first post was. It was expressing sadness over Ryouta's wish for the coming year. :(
/also did this out of curiousity.
Mine was in the Heian LP! Chortling over the good fortune of signing up to post right after an update. Then I wandered off into January Forum.
Apparently I started on BF by bitching about smoking being gross ever since I quit. Weird.
On-topic: I love that this thread's title is in the imperative.
My first BF post was my picks for the 2011 NFL wild card playoff round. Top-quality stuff.
Is there a way to find this without having to click back through 12 pages of search results?
Not that I could see!
