Thing I love about being broken: today's discussion in the Skeptics and Women thread where a whole bunch of straight cis guys are talking about privilege and feminism and sound like the awesomest allies on the whole planet. this places makes me really proud to be a member. Hey, how did it get so dusty in here?

I love this place so much.

Lum deserves an award for creating and hosting the best forum on the Internet. That's no small feat. Every member should get an award too just for being awesome in general.

Why can't the rest of the Internet be like this site?

I have, numerous times. I think my tolerance level has been bludgeoned beyond recognizability at this point, though, and, well, it's Santorum. If you pretend that forum doesn't exist, the rest of BF is more or less purely fantastic, with the occasional bouts of rage and hate between members who can't stand each other.

Compare Santorum to P&R on, say, QT3. You'll be begging for Santorum after that.

I compare Santorum to the rest of the Internet and I'd choose Santorum every single time.

I avoid Santorum, but my understanding was that it was pretty much "Brett versus everyone else". Or, at least, it made me laugh to think of it that way.

Let me state for the record that I was NOT in any way referring to or singling out Brett.

Edit: Not trying to imply that any one was saying this, but I figured it would be a good thing to get out in the world.

Considering the fact sometimes Brett didn't actually post anything worth attacking, he got jumped on quite a bit.

But let us move on from that.

I actually don't mind the Santorum forum. It's there for a reason and it fulfills its purpose perfectly, and even then, it's STILL more civil than most of the Internet.

A lot of people have a history with Brett that goes back to before you and I were able to say "internet forum", so I'm hesitant to give any judgement about that. I just really wasn't making that joke about Brett and wanted to make that clear. But you're right. Let us not speak of those things.

I wasn't trying to be mean about Brett. I kind of like the guy when he's not talking about politics, and he's been very supportive to everyone in the depression threads, IMO. Sorry Brett, was just making a joke.

Things I like about being broken: being able to see more to a conservative Internet person than just their politics, because the forum doesn't encourage one-dimensionality.

I just didn't think Ingmar got the full tittering impact of what was said here. Tee hee hee.

How did I not realize sooner THANKS GUYS I'LL BE LAUGHING LIKE A LOON THE REST OF THE DAY.

I like that I can be in any subforum (except maybe Santorum, I don't really go there) and have sensitive discussions on sensitive topics, where I actually learn things.

You'll learn things in Santorum, too. Whether those are desireable things to learn is debatable. :)

I like it when someone randomly likes a post I made months ago, especially since it makes me go through the entire thread to see what I missed.

Hint: I missed nothing, but thanks to Shake I watched the Pacific Rim trailer again, and it still fucking rules.
