We head down to the basement.


Chezem has removed his glasses.



But he's holding Amaya's hand.




And then she steps in a hole and has to grab him to keep from falling.


Nope! ^__^

Looks like the place is trapped. How exciting!



And Amaya keeps walking right into them.


She just misses getting whacked by a stick.

Amaya: "How do you keep avoiding these traps?"

Chezem: "Huh? If I see a trap, I just step over it."

Of course! It's so simple! Now if only she could actually see them...

Chezem: "Well, it would be boring if we could find the treasure too easily."

We're gonna die down here, aren't we?


And Amaya sets them aaaaall off.


She's fine. It was just a rope. At least none of these traps seem to be fatal, so far.

Chezem helps her stand up.

Amaya: "Oh, I'm sick of this..."


No, Chezem, don't be sad! We take it back!





Amaya: "W-What are you doing, Chezem...?"

Chezem: "You're no use, Amaya."




OMG, can't breathe... Chezem! Why are you so adorable?!



Chezem: "Your face is dirty."

He wipes some dirt off her cheeks.



Amaya: "My clothes are all dirty, too..."

Chezem: "Heh, well, you keep falling down."

Well, yeah, but...

Amaya: "It's dark and there really are a lot of traps!"

Chezem: "Now, now, Amaya. You're springing so many of these traps..."


So mean...

To be fair she is a pretty useless treasure hunter. If this were Indiana Jones she'd have died in five steps.

Chezem is so wonderful (and suddenly teasing us? You just grow more attractive with age). Luckily, everybody else in the game had the good sense to just leave. Barely anybody other than Falitna showed up in the route.

And the winner is...

*drumroll*



I'll finish up the side story tomorrow, and then it's Ivan's turn!

I'll have to admit, I wasn't expecting Ivan to win. :D This ought to be interesting.

Too bad about the loss of his wrinkles. They were kinda cute.

Falitna was really interesting to me!

I think even an otome protag has more common sense than Willie.

Well, I'm leaving his dimple and the ones right under his eyes. I think the ones on his forehead make him look like he has antennae, though.

Chezem warns Amaya to be careful. She insists she's fine, and as soon as the words have left her mouth...she falls flat on her face. Again. *sigh*


Lookit him. You know he's trying not to laugh.

Amaya thinks to herself she's such a goof when she notices something.

It's the treasure!



So they both run toward the box when...

Oh, for Pete's sake...

This trap isn't as harmless as the others. A bunch of rocks start falling down, and Chezem and Amaya start running. They manage to make it to a side passage when they hear a loud bang. The passage back is blocked.


You are taking this way too well, you adorable wierdo.

Amaya: "*Gulp*"

Chezem: "Well, this is all to be expected for a treasure, right? Come now. Let's go open that chest."

Amaya walks forward, and then she turns to say something to Chezem. When she does, she notices he's ducked back into the side passage.
She asks him what he was doing, but he just says "Let's go" and they hold hands.



Amaya: "Don't make fun of me!"

Chezem: "Heh, sorry."



So they get to the treasure and reach for it when-



The ground beneath their feet starts to crumble away. They don't fall in, but...



Some pebbles fall in the fissure, and Amaya notes that she can't hear them hit the bottom.

Amaya: "This trap is..."

Chezem: "No...This is just a natural hole. What bad timing."

Amaya: "Chezem..."

Chezem: "Do not be so worried."


*squeals* *dies*



She feels encouragement from Chezem, but dread from the hole separating them. What should she do?



Amaya: "What...?"

Chezem: "Get a running start and jump. You can make it easily."

Amaya: "But, the treasure..."

Chezem: "Is it really that important?"


Uhh...

It's ours! We worked together for it, which is why it's important. Not because it's treasure (they're rich anyway, who cares about its actual value).

...and why are you getting that last option? o_o

The precious is mine!

I mean, ours.

The company likes to feel you cry when you accidentally tap it. It powers their computers.

It seems to be a throwaway option in all (or almost all) of the choices in every character's side-story route. If you accidently click it, the game just skips the dialogue that would normally follow a choice and you go to the next scene. *shrugs*

So, what Para said. Solmare feeds on tears.

Gosh darn it, there's no "Eh, screw it, I'm jumping" option. I guess they couldn't all be easy.

Looks like "It's ours" is getting my vote.

What, no souls? Are they on a diet?

Well, I'd probably be starving them anyway, they'd only get a string of curse words out of me if I clicked the last option.

It's ours, Chezem! Yours and mine!

Waaaaait a minute...

Amaya: "Yeah, but... Chezem, we found this together!"



Amaya: "We can't just leave it here after working together so hard like that! I don't care about it, but it's proof of our time here together."

Chezem: "In that case, I don't want the treasure even more now."

WHUT



Chezem: "I already have all the proof of our time together... right here!"




Chezem!! Best boyfriend husband is best.



When we're all done swooning, Chezem goes on to say that the chest looks empty anyway. Amaya checks it,



Chezem: "Right? So just leave it, and jump over to this side."

Amaya: "But, I'm scared!"

Chezem: "It's alright. I already told you. I'm here for you."





Amaya backs up, and then takes a running leap over the gap, closing her eyes.

*Thump!*



Chezem: "You can really jump, huh?"



Chezem: "It's alright. ...You're shaking a bit."

Amaya: "...Yeah."

Chezem: "I'm just glad you're safe."



Chezem: "Let's head back."

I don't know if I can; I seem to have melted into a puddle.



Amaya: "It's because I kept falling down."

Chezem: "Want a piggy back ride? I'll make sure you don't fall down again."

Amaya: "...What?! Is that ok?!"





Amaya: "Awww! Chezem!"



Chezem: "But this time, please hold onto my hand."

...Well. I guess I'll forgive you, since you're adorable.

Amaya takes one last look at the treasure chest.

Chezem is the best. The best of everything.

Such an elaborate underground maze could only have been built by the recklessly irresponsible spending of the tyrannical and despotic royal family. All while the people of Not Arabia starve.

The Butler Rebellion cannot come soon enough. The vox pupuli will be silenced no more!

The downside of doing Chezem's route first: none of the other routes can live up to it. Why are you so perfect, Chezem?
I'm wondering how the butler route will go. Does protag-chan give the bracelet to one of the princes, or does she give a major promotion to the butler (or better yet, become king herself)?

Curiosity is the leading cause of why so many people voted for Ivan's route. :D Yeah, I have the same questions swirling around in my head about Ivan's route, too.

Holy crap, she would skyrocket to my favorite otome protagonist of all time if she did this.

The king DOES say he's fine with it!

Chezem and Amaya leave the basement and return to the palace.



Amaya: "Yeah... Oh! Hey Chezem. I was wondering about something."

Chezem: "What?"

Amaya: "How did you know that treasure chest was already empty?"

Yeah, how 'bout that? How do you tell a closed box "looks empty"?

...Chezem, are you Superman?



It's a photo of a family. Where did you manage to find that?

Chezem: "When we ducked into that side passage, I found this there."

He thinks that if the person who made the map is who Chezem thinks it is, then the photo is the treasure. Someone must have retrieved it and then triggered the rock fall. When they hid in the side passage, they dropped the picture without realizing it.

Chezem: "I just had a lucky guess when I said the chest was empty."

Just about then, King Tamir shows up, wondering what they are doing.



Amaya: "We just, uh, went on an adventure..."

That's what you kids are calling it these days...

Tamir: "Adventure? What's this? A picture?"

Chezem: "We found this on our adventure."

Tamir: "You entered the basement?!"

...Wait, how does he know that?



Amaya hands him the map they found.



So it turns out, Tamir made the map for Chezem's mother, as Chezem expected. He was also the one that made the traps and hid the treasure, to entertain her.

Tamir: "I made those traps half-heartedly, so no one would trip them. She had quite a fun time going through the basement."

Chezem: "Amaya fell for so many traps, I'm sure mother would be pleased."

Hey!





Tamir: "Well, I was quite happy she was able to enjoy this. But on the way out, it seems she dropped the treasure. She searched a long time for this."

Amaya: "The treasure..."

Tamir: "Yes. This picture is the treasure. This is the only picture with all of our sons. For Chezem's mother, this was quite a rare treasure."

Unfortunately, Solmare doesn't include any CGs with their side story expansions, so we don't get to see the picture.

...I bet it's cute.





Amaya: "This used to belong to you, so of course!"

Tamir: "I am quite grateful."

Chezem: "Don't go losing it again."

Tamir: "I won't."

Tamir leaves.



Chezem: "Wait, Amaya."





Chezem: "I know you want to talk, but you need to clean up first."

Amaya: "O-Ok..."

I loved that song! The only thing I actually liked about Barbie was the movies. They weren't that bad for a young girl that loved romantizised fairy tales.

Tutor had a nice voice actor.

Oh my god. Ivan actually won?! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~

Amaya takes a bath and goes to Chezem's room. (Being a royalty thing, I'm sure she has her own private suite of rooms, even if she doesn't use them.)

He invites her in and asks her to sit down. She sits on the edge of the bed, and then he kneels down in front of her.





Amaya: "C-C-Chezem?!"

Woman! He's your husband and you love him; stop being so embarrassed!

Chezem: "We have to tend to your wounds."

Amaya: "I-I'm fine! I can do it myself later!"

Chezem: "Nope. We have to do it now. Be a good girl."


For someone who used to be a total recluse, Chezem is getting pretty good at this. *evil grin*

Chezem: "I would rather not have anyone else do this but myself."


*stares*



*dies*

Ahem. Amaya thinks to herself that Chezem is being unusually assertive, and lets him treat her scrapes. She also can't believe how nervous she's getting "just from this".

And then she shrieks.



Amaya: "N-No... The disinfectant just stung a little."

*facepalm*



Amaya: "Thank you, Chezem."

Chezem: "You're welcome."



Chezem: "I had a lot of fun today... ...Because I got to see what a klutz you are, Amaya. I'm completely satisfied."


Aw, don't make that face. :(

Amaya: "It's ok. But... How did you know who wrote that map?"

Chezem smiles and pulls out a photo from a book on his bookshelf.



It's the same picture from before. There were two copies: one for Chezem's mother and one for Tamir.



Chezem: "She said my father really loves this photo as well. She said, 'He loves it as much as he loves me.'"

Amaya: "What wonderful parents, to love their children so much!"



Chezem: "'One day, you'll find someone you love this much as well. Learn to cherish them so as not to ever lose them.'"

Amaya: "What a wonderful mother... I wish I could meet her."

Chezem: "Yes, you will one day. I'd like you two to meet as well. I'll tell her, 'This girl is MY treasure.'"

Amaya: "Chezem..."

Chezem: "I'll hold on to my treasure so I won't lose it."

I-I'm not crying. I just have something in my eye.





Amaya: "Yeah...Don't let me go, ok?"

Chezem: "I'm such a lucky person...to be able to meet someone like you."

Amaya: "Yes, me too..."
