Its a free addon, complaining that something given to you for free isnt something you want makes one sound like an ass.

Yeah, Charles, stop having opinions about things and expressing those opinions. In public even.

For what it's worth, I've been meaning to pick 'Titan Quest' up for years and never got round to it. It is a good day to be me.
  3. brettmcd Keeper of the Elemental Materials

He can have all the opinions he wants, I was only stating MY opinion that complaining about something given to you for free because it isnt something you specifically want makes you sound like an ass.
  4. tindel This Is SEWIOUS

I just made a horrible decision. I played red faction armageddon, despite just about every comment about it being along the lines of "don't".

More precisely, I tried to play the game. At first, I couldn't even get it to start a new game. I'd click that in the main menu, the screen would black for a second and then I'd be back at the main menu. Starting the game in dx9 mode let me get past that point at least. However, after the first boss fight, it kicked me back out to the main menu again. I click continue, screen blacks for a second and voila, back to the main menu.

    That's...something. It's certainly something.

It seems like they threw it in to try to get people to pay for the expansion. But you know, free stuff, so can't really complain.
  6. drbob Beer

Except I've never played Diablo, but often thought that sort of game might appeal to me. So this freebie may be the perfect gateway drug.

I don't know, I thought it wasn't my sort of game, but people who I tend to share game tastes with have endorsed it, and now that I've been given it for free, it's been added to my "need to get around to playing" list.

Actually, that wasn't even remotely a complaint, and if you understood english you would have realized that before wasting everyone's time with your bog standard retardo-post.

Well I'm glad to tell you that if you start with Titan Quest there's a good chance you'll swear off the entire genre!

Ignore Charles. Titan Quest is a fine game and the expansion makes it even better.

Titan Quest with expansion is a great game. I finish very very few games, but TQ is on that list.

If not a complaint, what would you call it? An unnecessary and pointless shot at a game you don't like?
  14. UnSub Armchair Designer

It's not that bad. It is just that there are a lot of better games out there.

The biggest problem with this title is repetition - you kill so many alien bugs it just gets boring.

Charles' core complaint is valid and it's one I agree with, the leveling is way too slow for the amount of skill points you get. Add in the dual-mastery thing and it's tough to actually start to feel powerful until after the first difficulty level.

I still think it's worth playing, but I suggest picking a melee fighter and just having fun ragdolling satyr corpses for a while.

Melee can be pretty damn frustrating though as it's hard to get good lifesteal weapons. Archer was my favourite.

Yeah. I haven't played TQ for a long time, but before I set the game aside, I'd gotten through most of the game with my Hunter without dying at all. Not one time. She had some twinked gear, but so did my other characters, and they all died plenty of times. I didn't even give her another class, she was a straight Hunter. They don't get close, you don't get hit.

It gets tougher on the second playthrough. Plenty of fast enemies and a lot less one-shot kills.

It's a statement whose purpose is to express bewilderment at why THQ didn't throw in something else that is more likely to be something that people don't own, thus driving more sales of people who were already on the fence about the bundle.

Also: All internet posts are unnecessary and pointless LOL

Also also: I liked Titan Quest a fair bit. But it should have been a much better game, and at the time, it seemed likely that everyone on the planet who was interested had played it.

I enjoyed TQ a fair bit. I wouldn't play it without the expansion, though.

And Charles' point is fair -- while adding TQ to the bundle isn't a bad thing, it probably doesn't add a whole lot of value/enticement because TQ is an older title and has been heavily discounted many times over the last couple of years. It's what I call a Cracker Jack game -- not a reflection of the game's quality, just where it currently sits, value-wise.

Also, Dream Mastery was equal parts stupidly overpowered and fun. Just thinking about it makes me want to start a new character and save that horsey.

One could say the same thing about company of heroes. Its been heavily discounted over the years and most people who want the game already owned it.

You could say that about every game in the collection except Saint's Row 3. I'd argue that including Red Faction: Armageddon over Guerrilla actually hurts the package.

The goty edition is only the base game with winter assault, iirc. There's another two or three xpacs to get the "complete" DoW.

I have never purchased an Umble Bundle before, mostly because I am a scrooge who frowns upon giving charity to dirty-faced orphans and their indie games. Humbug!
  29. Hanacker Armchair Designer

When does this end? My backlog is too big to even pay $1 or $5 for a bunch of games I'll never get around to, but maybe if I can clear it out a little bit...

There's a lot of game in that GOTY edition, though. I finished the main campaign, worked my way through most of Winter Assault, and pretty much left the other expansions alone (bought the platinum ed on gamersgate for like $10 some time ago).

Say what you want about that THQ Bundle, but it basically should just absolutely kick down any RTS cravings you have, ever. DoW & CoH are the only real RTS games I finished campaigns on. Love these two games.

I have to agree with Charles: I wouldn't play TQ without Immortal Throne any sooner than I'd play Diablo 2 without Lord of Destruction. I mean, yeah, "free" stuff, but it's a transparent money grab re: you getting the expansion. Which you absolutely need to if you want to enjoy the game.

Matter of fact, till this thread I'd never even heard of Humble Bundles.
    So with that in mind...
Does anyone have an answer to if new additions will get added to existing purcheases?
My guess is not, but if they do, then I'll go ahead and throw my $10 in now instead of waiting till the last day to make sure I get eveyrthing they'll offer.
  35. flatsinki Fresh Meat

All the Humble Bundles have a once you are in on it you are in. So what ever is added you automatically get. This also applies if you just beat the average and subsequently it rises above what you paid...you still get credit for having beat the average.

What did the expansion add? TBH I was so burned out on Titan Quest I think I skipped the expansion altogether. Does it vastly speed up the levelling curve?

You get all additional games, no matter what -- I only paid a buck (as I already had everything except Red Faction: Armageddon), and they still gave me a code for Dawn of War, even though it's on the beat-the-average pile.

1.New class (the oft mentioned Dream Mastery)

    2. New act which goes from part of greece down through Hades domain.

    3. Artefacts if I recall correctly. Basically recipes to craft an additional item that grants various perks/buffs/abilities.

If you were burned on TQ though, don't bother buying the expansion now, you'll just end up wasting your money, unless you also are prepared to mod the game. There are some mods that exist which do make the game tougher, but I haven't tried any that make the big changes, the only one is a monster multiplier (xMax) which multiplies the spawns by 2, 3, 5 or 10. The expansion did improve the game in my opinion, the final act was excellent, and I played a variety of classes through normal, and in part epic. I only had one character at legendary mode. However, getting through the first hour of Greece fucking sucks, and that is why I would say don't bother because you'd have to be prepared to save the horse, kill the shaman, find the spartans, get the dowry necklace, kill the giant spider.... etc etc.
