I opened this topic because it seems like TokiMemo is pretty popular here, and I feel that I'm taking over an LP thread when I want to talk about something TokiMemo related, but it's not related to what the LPer is currently doing. This isn't meant to take discussion away from the LP threads, but is meant to be a place to talk about all things TokiMemo - Girls and Boys Sides, from fan vids, fanfic, fanart, game questions, gushing, fawning, and so on. If this doesn't work, it doesn't work. No harm done.

To start this off, which is your favorite game? Who makes your heart go TOKIMEKI? /lame

Patches are okay, I'd think. ROMs are a definite no. C:

2nd game is my favourite. I don't know why.
No one will ever replace Amanohashi, though.

I've had a freaky thing for Amachi since always. Yeah, that's right, I DON'T hate shotas, unless I find them insufferable. But that applies to any char genre!

I haven't played 3 yet, waiting for the patch. So as of now, 2 is favorite by leaps and bounds. I like the game mechanics much better. And the characters are better written, IMO. No one really stands out to me in 1.

Edit: I take that back, I really liked Chiharu Aoki for some reason.

Yeah, there weren't a lot of guys in TMGS1 that were romantically appealing. Though they were a lot more fabulous back then. Don't kill me, Himuro fans.

I kind of like both TMGS 1 and 2. TMGS2 is definitely an improvement with its system and sprites, but TMGS1 had its charms as well. I would say my favs from TMGS1 are Himuro, Mihara, and Sakuya in no particular order. TMGS2 would be HIKAMIN, Wakaouji, Amachi, and Shiba. But Hikami takes the cake~

I'm playing/brute-forcing my way through TMGS3 PSP, and even though I don't know half of what anyone is saying, it is very, very fun. I love this system the most. I didn't really know who to go for so I alternated between Tamao and Seiji, and then accidentally got into 3P Mode with them.... I feel a teensy bit guilty, but because of the language gap I can stomach it. It is high-larious, I really suggest to at least see it once before reloading, if it's not your cup of tea.

But now I've set my eyes on Niina <3 I don't know if I'll like him half as much as in the DS version. He's the flirty type, but with Sweet Devil you can give it back to him and it's so satisfying <3 <3

Love Plus is kind of like TokiMemo, only when the TokiMemo-esque dating ends, you... uh, date them in real time. ?_?

I might try that, maybe. I don't know if I could keep up with the "real time" aspect...

Oh, I forgot about Tendo, you're right, things to love in TMGS1. I don't hate 1 by any means, it's just hard to go back to after 2.

Hikami's adorable. He's everything I wanted Himuro's route to be, really.

I had a profound and unusual spiritual connection with Wakasensei and he's one of my top favorites. His ending confession resonated with me in real life, the feelings of living each day with no purpose, just waiting to die... I played his route when I was going through some bad times IRL as well, and he actually kinda pulled me through it emotionally. I felt like I connected with a fictional character, and it brought me some kind of strange, unburdening relief. So I wil never not love Wakaouji.

I love Komori too, wish they did more with him as well as Masaki. Motoharu really is delightful.

Dreadcop's right, Saeki's hilarious when you get in chop fights. I am stupidly amused by that.

I would play patched tokimemo boys versions too. Sounds like fun.

I, uh, what? I didn't hear about that, and I can't say I approve. I mean, I love my DS but...

I just realized while I'm here that this is an appropriate place for another rant.

I didn't hate Hibiya's route in TMGS1. Defending the shota again.

He's weird. No shaking that. I don't approve of him stalking Hazuki and being weird. But he's an awkward teenager, and that kind of thing happens on occation. And frankly, I like how his route went down.

When he thinks about you, and reveals his true personality, he's really sweet and strong-willed. I got realy attached to having him around. When I played other's routes after his, because the shotas FORCE themselves into your life, I always felt guilty when I had to give him the slip or he was bombing me. Sometimes, I liked him more than the guy I was with, and wanted to run away with him if I didn't want to get other endings. I still like him!

And by the end of the game, he's sort of growing out of his weird fixation on being someone else, and growing into his own man. I think he acknowledges it in his confession. I think that's how his writers had intended for him to be, though like many other aspects of TMGS1 characters, it didn't come through very well unless maybe your were looking for it.

I still like Hibiya, he's in my top chars from 1.

Wow, so that happened. Er, if he's happy, I guess? I wonder how the game makers feel about that? Both a compliment, and a 'I'VE CREATED A MONSTER!' moment. xD

Is this where I bitch about there being no more dude Tokimemos? And no Love Plus doesn't count because TM4 1) doesn't expect me to shnog my handheld console and 2) does let me punch sharks. I don't even know about any other similar life sim style dating games. Heck, I'm almost tempted to play GS because I think there's like two dudes and twenty ladies reading my LP and if you all can take such an interest in a galge then I should be able to get over my sexual preference too.

I guess I'll have to fall back on TM2 at some point. I've heard good things; Apparently your dude friends will go for the ladies and there's a Forever Alone bromance ending that requires you to actively sabotage them, which sounds hilarious.

To be fair, there are tons of dude Tokimeki... the series itself started as a dating sims for guys. But yeah, none of them have been translated.

Anyway of TMGS I played a lot with the first one, and I started the second only recently. I admit that there are more interesting guys, but the new mechancs are not very clear to me O_o I wonder why having 3 types of skinship when the usual poking is good enough to raise affection.

I'm curious about Love Plus, but that whole kissing thing that MulMizu described, and from what else I've heard about it, like the real-time dating and talking into the microphone in Japanese, ehhhh I'll pass. >_>

TM4 was really the last main game they've released? I wouldn't be surprised if they're using TMGS3 and the new TMGS Restaurant game as tests for Live 2D. I wonder if they're going to move onto the mobile phone platform.... Otoge seems pretty popular on mobile phones, I'm not sure if it's the same with galge.

Considering how popular TM is, it's kind of weird that there haven't been any fan translations.

And let me just say that TokiMemo is one of the few galge I'm actually interested in purchasing. Most bishoujo games don't really appeal to me. I don't know what it is, maybe the fact that they don't handle the love interests well or they're flat characters or something. TokiMemo, however, manages to breathe life into all of the characters, and though the first few games are far from perfect, I feel like the characters have way more dimension than most other dating sims.

I just want more TokiMemo in general, I don't care what side, hence why I was so pleased at the TokiMemo Restaurant announcement. I was actually so pissed to find out there was no patch for the original game because DAMN I WANT TO PLAY IT gross sobbing ensues.

Konami has always won me over, but that's because they know what they're doing.

Heck, even for all its problems, I'm enjoying the first game so much. Even if Amanohashi's route has creeper moments, I do enjoy the parts they did well even though I'm not even close to being at those points yet I'M SORRY I'LL GET BACK TO THAT LP PROMISE. Heck, I think it was because of Amanohashi I wanted to play the first game at all. Him and Mihara. Mostly Mihara.

I just want to throw all my love at this series.

TM4 was actually released in 2009, after the first two of the GS games. Too recent to go around calling it dead, I suppose, but AFAIK there have been no announcements because the franchise is obviously focusing on the otome market now. It's just so disheartening to step into the genre through TM4 and find it's a dead end.

I don't know the first thing about fan patches, but I do know that my lazy slapdash LP has given me immense respect for anybody working on such a project. I have it so much easier and I still cheat all the damn time. The weird thing is that they exist at all.

I would love to see TM2, complete with rival mode and sabotaging.

GS isn't that bad if you're a straight guy you baby, you can technically go after your female friends for less complete endings too. Or, if you want sheer crack, you could just play GS1 and go after Amanohashi (the principal with the pedostache), Hibiya (dude who's obsessed with the main guy to the point of stalking and taking pictures of him and trying to emulate him in every way) or Shiki (who Angie went after, but he's probably still fabulous).

Plus compared to the vast majority of otoge there are a lot more manly guys in GS (comparatively speaking). Just look at this handsome fella.



He would not be out of place in the cast of Beelzebub. He likes vintage records, 50s memorabilia and motorcycles. He's one of the most popular.

I would like to see another Boy's Side game too, though, especially if it came out on a console that could be easily patched. All the cast in TM4 is pretty likeable, and I like that there is apparently an entire RPG-parody battle minigame.

Yes, but can he summon meteors from outer space? No? Then he is less badass than the TM4 girls, sorry.

The most criminal thing about the GS games compared to the regular TM series is that there is no RPG minigame. And there's no reason for there not to be aside from Konami thinking "lol girls don't like games with BATTLE in them".

The two main guys in TMGS3 are delinquents. It would have been a perfect time to introduce a battle system! But nooooooooooo fighting is wrooooooong

Considering the fact I'm pansexual, I have no grief or problem with playing otoge or galge.

My problem is with quality.

Which TokiMemo has provided SO MUCH OF. Even in the cracky routes in TMGS1. They have a very wide variety of love interests that, though you can usually tell which general trope they're representing, they have more going on for them than that.

You have your tsundere who's not only done well, but has more going for him than just being a tsundere or bishonen. In all the games. Heck, a lot of otome games, you have the tsundere guy and... That's. Really all you can say about them. They're tsundere. Whoop dee do.

TokiMemo? MY GOD, THEY HAVE PERSONALITIES OUTSIDE THAT ONE TROPE.

Yeah, they seriously missed out on that.

Instead, we get that evil chocolate making minigame.

Yeah, I'm merely bi (even if I come off pretty flaming on this forum a good portion of the time), but same. As long as they're done well.

It seems as though otoge are a little behind galge in terms of suddenly coming out with things that are either extremely epic or utsuge, but I think that's starting to change. Mostly I'm just waiting for the day when there will be the Fate/stay night of otoge, complete with badass powering up sequences, down-to-the-knuckle fights, awesome magic, and bad ends that involve going out with a bang or the protagonist becoming a knight templar for the sake of their ideals.

Considering the fact Metal Gear Solid has a HUGE female fanbase, I don't know why they don't include a battle system in the Girl's Side.

Sorry to pimp something I've worked on again, but have you tried out Heartache 101 ~Sour into Sweet~? It's not a bad game by any means though sometimes it shows that most of the girl's routes were written by guys. Plus, it has lots of extra content you can download and the ability to create your own content for the game. I don't mean to brag, but I think that Junko Watanabe's route (which I wrote) is one of the best and most realistic routes. At the very least, it was written by a girl and not a guy, so it has that going for it. Moreover, both the game and all the downloadable content are free, so you've only lost a little time if you don't like it. :)

I'll get back to LPing the game when the quarter's over, I promise.
