I love how "tryhards" has become an insult. Apparently a desire to be competent is a moral failing in one's opponents! I've never heard it applied as an insult to one's teammates, of course. If you can't take constructive criticism - which was offered by several people in this thread - and get super butthurt at people not falling over themselves at how awesome some shitty also-ran of a game is, nobody is ever going to take you seriously. People like me will post to make fun of you because you're an easy target (same reason that people reply to brett, really) and because you represent a small but over-vocal ultra-minority of idiots on the internet who believe that being griefed is totally fun and games should never try to learn from past failures. Also, 5 grand children at forty? That's impressive; best case, two generations of getting pregnant at 18, straight out of high school. Freakazoid is the only one I see around regularly. Interestingly, and if I am not misremembering, this forum was set up to give banned members of the Qt3 forums somewhere to go. I ignored it for a while, but then dropped in and found a pretty cool community. Several communities actually, with very little crossover. And now that I think about it, there aren't very many open world PvP aficionados to be found here, that I have noticed anyway. I'm actually impressed you've managed to rile them up. Usually I just see Adree trying to pick a fight, and everybody just sorta ignoring it (sorry Adree, but you do have "offensive dickweed" as your title -- that sort of sets a negative tone you know). I certainly like this better than Facebook. I've been social networking on the web since, well, since a while. Facebook is just another AOL, and yes, I am being elitist, I know. From my perspective it seems like many of you are ganging up on the "new" guy, who turns out to be not new at all, based on your suspicion that Zen's the typical drop in promoter. Zen sassed you back and let's face it nobody sasses you in your territory. I'd ask for a truce among you guys and maybe give him a chance. But I don't really think that's going to happen. I'm slightly interested in this game. I loved the original UO.
I don't care who Zen is or what his bona fides may be. I'm simply saying that this is yet another vapourware vanity project being hyped as the next big thing complete with every design mistake from all the previous iterations of this bubble.

The vast majority of people who migrated here from QT3 weren't banned, just FYI. There was a pretty obnoxious change in how QT3 was moderated which resulted in a large split in the community.
6 guys only two of which are coders making a full featured MMO via Kickstarter and promising beta in two weeks. I'm not terribly concerned that my MMO credibility is going to be strained too much on this one.
The game has been in development for 2 years, they have had a playable alpha for quite some time now (Did you not watch the video?) and on the front page of their website there are already a couple of offline sandbox's where you can do some light crafting and scripting. These things already disprove your concept of vapourware.
The fact they're about half way to their KS goal with less than a week to go is equally as disheartening. Look, every time someone tries to open up player behavior in any way in an MMO, people immediately jump to scream "UO!" It's become a bit of a trope but it still has some pedigree. I quite like some of the ideas here, but they're probably better off hatched and vetted in a different environment than a commercial product.
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this. The game is essentially made, it's just not in a state where we find it acceptable to release it as a beta. More and more of the framework is being laid out every day, and we are making huge leaps on a regular basis now that the engine is nearing completion. Could you elaborate as to how that this game isn't ever going to be made? Do you know something about our schedule/engine that I don't? This is accurate. Zen was mistaken. Previous failures in the MMO market is all the more reason to try new things, and continuously expand on the idea of a "true" MMO sandbox experience. I want to see your project. :)
Your perspective is wrong and stupid. Zen started a thread about the game, people talked some shit about the game, and Zen got pissed off that someone insulted his baby and started smashing up the place. That you would ignore his behavior and point the blame at ours says a lot about the biases you are bringing to the situation and doesn't paint a favorable picture of you.

Because you say things like this, I'd suspect. My biggest issue right now is that if it's in such a beautifully polished beta, why is the project not only looking for $50k from KS (of which they only have $25k) but an additional 100 grand for an "advanced graphics update" that it implies would bring the visuals to an acceptable commercial expectation to even begin to compete on the market? As much as we'd all like, I just can't see many folks flocking to a 2D MMO unless it were F2P, and I haven't seen a business model for this thing yet.

I have no idea what your schedule looks like but I am sure from your feature set that you aren't going to be able to deliver this project. This is because as soon as you add players you are going to run into all the problems that the previous 586572 games with this feature set ran into and will have to figure out how to fix them before prime time (hint: the answer is 'don't start with that feature set'). I'm a games designer, I have been doing that and other stuff in this industry for over 15 years. I have experience on two AAA MMOs, three unreleased and unannounced MMOs and a released FPS. I'm telling you that your game is going to crash and burn because you have learned nothing from the history of prior games and the countless other hobbyist game designers who figured that only they were capable of delivering an innovative MMO. To know this I don't need to know anything about your engine or project management skills, I just need to see what you are promising. This is not the first time and it won't be the last that people get excited over this. Those of us who have seen it before know what to expect.
