Hey folks I posted this over at Quarter to Three and wanted to make sure you guys see it-

This from over at the GOG Forums has me stoked:

Did you or any of your Facebook friends play our Age of Wonders or Overlord games? Then it's time to Like us, because we will soon unveil our unannounced game here on Facebook!! (...with a minimum of 1000 likes even sooner ;) -http://www.facebook.com/TriumphStudi...51144838230294

Age of Wonders 4(at least the 4th release with the AoW name) official announcement I hope, please don't be the next Overlords game.

They are at 976 likes as I write this, so just a few short to speed up the announcement.

I just started playing AoW PBEM again, and I'd LOVE to see another entry in that series. The first one had the best campaign of the three, IMO, and I'd love to play through another like that. Especially with the persistent hero. That's not unique, but I loved going through with my boar-riding dwarf mage.

I honestly don't understand the aversion to Kickstarter. For a lot of these niche-titles--and let's face it, 90s style crunchy turn-based strategy is super niche-y these days--the alternative to Kickstarter is often "no game." You can still buy the game even if you aren't comfortable about participating in the Kickstarter, so long as the Kickstarter makes its goal. So I don't really understand the whole Kickstarter phobia thing. I don't really care if the game uses Kickstarter or not, and I'd rather spend my worrying efforts hoping that it isn't a Facebook game.

I think people mean "Has funding already > Kickstarter" which mean the game has a better chance of being developed and released sometime soon. Many times a KS announcement carries such a strong potential for vaporware it just ends up being depressing.

This. Plus, if I really really want something, like AOW 3, I'm going to feel compelled to KS it, and then it may turn out to be junk. It's a pig in a poke (unlike the OOTS reprint, which I happily KS'd, because I knew what I was getting).

Also, it's your job to find the means to make something and make it. If it's any good, people will buy it. Get off my lawn.

How does Kickstarter not qualify as "finding the means to make something?" Don't you really mean: "Find the means to make it, as long as the means are ones that meet my approval, even though I don't plan to have anything to do with it one way or the other?" And in that sense, aren't you being a little silly?

See that last sentence I wrote? I put that there to indicate that I am aware that part of my issue is just being a grumpy old man who hasn't yet come to terms with the new paradigm. I'm not sure I'd call myself silly, but in the end, if KS is the only way I'm ever going to see AOW 3, bring it on.

I, for one, am perfectly happy with AoW: SM.

And I would love to see another Overlord.

Leading around a pack of evil 8-year-olds who chew voraciously through the scenery just never got old for me. "TTRRRREEEEEAAAASSSUUURREE!"

    <pedant-rage>

Brethren is plural, bro is singular.

And "is going to continually persist" is super awkward phrasing. It would be better as just "shall persist", in larger type and across only one line.

NO BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL EXPRESSION IS IN THE SINGULAR, AND THE MEME DOESN'T CHANGE PLURALITY ANY MORE THAN IT CHANGES GENDER.

    *sigh*

The Joseph Ducreaux meme is one in which, traditionally, the phrase is ported over without changing things like tense, gender, plurality, etc. "Who let the dogs out" becomes "Who hath released the hounds", preserving the essential meaning of the phrase, its status as a query, and the plurality or lack thereof of the dogs. "Disregard females / acquire currency", similarly, maintains the plural.

And the phrasing should be consistently archaic. "Is going to continually persist" is shitty. It would be better as just "shall persist".

BUT HEY, WHAT DO I KNOW, I JUST HAVE STRONG PREFERENCES IN MY MEMES, NOW JUST AGREE THAT I'M WRONG AND LET'S STOP DERAILING.
